What inspired this Wish List Request?
During a customer discussion and JMP Live demonstration with Sylvain Baudot (imec), an important gap was identified in the current JMP Live interactive exploration workflow.
Today, JMP Live users can select or highlight observations within interactive reports and visualizations. However, those selected points are not highlighted in the associated data table. This makes it difficult for users, especially those who do not have JMP installed, to understand which specific records correspond to selected points in a graph.
The customer would like JMP Live users to move seamlessly from graphical exploration to data-level investigation. The inability to see selected points reflected in the data table limits the effectiveness of interactive exploration and makes it harder to inspect, validate, or further work with selected observations. His idea is then that they can investigate and eventually edit these highlighted points.
Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see.
Add support in JMP Live for linked selection between Interactive Reports and the attached Data Table.
Proposed functionality:
- When a user selects or highlights observations in a JMP Live interactive report (scatterplot, distribution, Graph Builder output, etc.), the corresponding rows should automatically become highlighted in the associated data table.
- The selection should remain synchronized between the visualization and the table, similar to row-state behavior available in JMP desktop.
- Ideally, users could then further investigate, filter, export, or potentially edit those selected records.
- The behavior would be similar to how JMP Live currently highlights rows associated with Control Chart Warnings, where users can immediately identify the corresponding observations in the data table.
The goal is to bring more of JMP's linked-data exploration paradigm into JMP Live, allowing non-JMP users to perform deeper investigations directly within the web environment.
What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided?
This enhancement would significantly improve the usability and analytical power of JMP Live.
Benefits include:
- Faster identification of specific records associated with points of interest in visualizations.
- Improved root-cause analysis and investigation workflows.
- Better support for JMP Live users who do not have access to JMP desktop.
- Reduced need to export data or switch between tools to understand which observations correspond to selected points.
- A more seamless and intuitive exploratory analytics experience consistent with JMP's core linked-data philosophy.
- Increased user adoption of JMP Live for day-to-day investigation and decision-making.
For organizations sharing analytics broadly through JMP Live, this capability would help democratize data exploration by giving consumers easier access to the underlying records behind graphical findings.
Is this an external customer request?
Yes
Customer: imec
Primary Contact: Sylvain Baudot
Context: This requirement was discussed during a JMP Live evaluation/demo session. The customer's ability to effectively investigate selected observations and eventually edit them within JMP Live is an important aspect of their desired workflow for broader data sharing and exploration.
Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of?
N/A
Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this?
This request is related to potential JMP Live adoption and broader usage within the customer organization.
The customer indicated that the ability to investigate selected observations directly from interactive reports is an important part of their desired workflow. Enhancing this capability would make JMP Live more valuable as a platform for sharing analyses with users who do not have JMP desktop access.
While this does not represent a known renewal risk, addressing this gap could positively influence JMP Live opportunity and strengthen the value proposition for wider deployment with imec. The feature would reduce friction in exploratory analysis workflows and make JMP Live a more complete self-service analytics environment for report consumers.
