[Background] Collagen peptides are proteins produced by enzymatically breaking down gelatin. NEXTIDA® , manufactured by RUSLO and handled by our company, is a series of collagen peptides with unique functionalities, and one of them, Nextida-GC, has been reported to have an effect in suppressing postprandial blood glucose spikes. Since blood glucose spikes cause severe postprandial drowsiness, this study evaluated the effect of Nextida-GC on suppressing drowsiness along with changes in blood glucose levels.
[Methods] Participants ingested either Nextida-GC or a placebo 30 minutes before a meal, followed by a high-carbohydrate-loaded meal. Postprandial subjective sleepiness questionnaires and continuous glucose monitoring data were collected. Data screening, analysis of each evaluation item, and correlation analysis were performed using JMP.
[Results] In responder analysis, Nextida-GC showed improvement in drowsiness scores and a significant suppression of blood glucose iAUC 30-60 minutes postprandially. Correlation analysis revealed positive correlations between drowsiness scores and items such as blood glucose change ( ΔC max). These results suggest that Nextida-GC may suppress postprandial drowsiness through blood glucose control, resulting in a high level of perceived effectiveness.
