Speeding up a Query Builder WorkflowI have a customer that is trying to query their DB using Query Builder. The problem is that the workflow appears to hang after they click "next" on the select database connection dialog (below). I've encountered this before and has to do (I think) with working with a large table. My question is - are there some best practices for dealing with large tables in Query Builder? Are there some preference settings that would help speed up getting to the actual Query Builder part?
Thanks

Re: Speeding up a Query Builder WorkflowHi Florence,
suggest to open under View -> Running Queries, then run the query and check how many rows will be read in. If that number is more than you see in the imported JMP data table there seems to be an issue with the data table. If the number is the same but still the user thinks there is missing data it might be good to check the database tables and the query itself. May read data with same query in other tool/script to see if the behaviour is different.
However, I think best and fastest would be to get technical Support involved.
Best,
MartinRe: Speeding up a Query Builder WorkflowHi Martin,
Thank you for your message.
It seems that rows are missing. As if JMP stopped to acquire the data. is there a maximum sample size? I didn't see any option about that.
Note: the data is not really big (80Mo) and the laptop has 8Go
thank a lot for your suggestions,
Florence
Re: Speeding up a Query Builder WorkflowHi Florence, in what sense incomplete?
-. Just missing values
- missing values in dates
- stops reading after a number of rows
- something inbetween the data is not catched
- columns missing
- ...
you can imagine there can be multiple causes for this. And it is crucial to understand what the unwanted behaviour is.
Re: Speeding up a Query Builder WorkflowHi,
I have a customer who has the same issue: too long to access to the data through the query builder (I will suggest your preference setting), and once it appends, it seems that the dataset is incomplete. Any additionnal idea???
Thank a lot,
Florence
Re: Speeding up a Query Builder WorkflowHi Mike
In the preference settings there is an option to specify max number of rows which will be checked for defining the format. This is set to 1mio by default. Decreasing this number to eg 1000 should speed up the workflow significantly I believe.
