As we move through the third quarter, SAS has introduced an updated Q3 check-in form in Workday to support impactful discussions about business objectives and professional growth.
The check-in form is designed to spark candid discussion surrounding your progress, obstacles, and career growth. It guides your Q3 Check-in conversation and is no substitute for a direct conversation with your manager.
Complete the form by Sept. 30. Use these guides to help you complete it:
Employee Step-by-Step Guide: Includes Workday screenshots and specific steps the employee should take to complete their form.
Manager Step-by-Step Guide: Includes Workday screenshots and specific steps the manager should take to review employee responses
HR Matters square.jpgHow the new Workday check-in process works
An employee initiates the process by completing and submitting the five core reflection questions directly in Workday. Once submitted, the manager receives an automated notification and goes into Workday to acknowledge the responses.
The five reflection questions
When filling out your Q3 form, you will reflect on these key areas:
- Business goal progress: How are you progressing with your business goals set at the beginning of the year? Which goals are on track, which may need adjustment, and what support do you need?
- Development progress: What progress have you made on your development goals, and what support would help you continue growing?
- Workload and obstacles: Looking at your current workload and responsibilities, are there any obstacles you need help overcoming?
- Engagement and experience: What support do you need right now to be successful and feel engaged in your work? What is helping you stay engaged, and what could improve your experience?
- Overall impact: How do you feel about your overall impact this year?
Check-in Form process clarifications
- Once the manager reviews and submits their responses, the Check-in Form process is complete. It does not go back to the employee.
- The manager can see employee responses (and their own comments) by accessing the “Check-In Status Report – for Managers”. The resources above include details on how to access the report.
- Employees can see their own responses by selecting “2026 Q3 Check-In” in the Performance area of Workday. The resources above also include instructions. NOTE: Employees cannot see manager comments in Workday. Managers are encouraged to discuss their comments and feedback during the Check-in Conversation and may also share a copy of their comments via email.
- The Workday Check-in Form task closed in Workday on Sept. 15. Reports will still be accessible after this date. Employees and managers should have Q3 Check-in Conversations no later than Sept. 30.
Action required: Personal development goals in PLATO
While preparing for your check-in, please take a moment to ensure your 2026 Personal Development Goals are documented in PLATO. Currently, some regions have fewer than half of their 2026 development goals in PLATO.
Please keep in mind the distinction between development goals and a development plan. Goals are the specific objectives you plan to achieve within a given timeframe, whereas a plan is your step-by-step action strategy to achieve those goals. For example, a development goal could be to improve public speaking, and a component of the development plan could be participating in the JMP Speaker Bureau.
Entering a plan without logging your explicit goals leaves your official progress untracked.
Next steps and training
Individual contributors should begin reflecting on their responses to the five questions and ensure their development goals are logged in PLATO. Managers should be prepared to review and sign off on acknowledgments as team members submit their forms in Workday.
Even if you have completed the Q3 check-in conversation, managers and employees are still encouraged to respond to and submit these questions, as it’s a great way to document year-to-date progress.
To help everyone navigate the updated process, an e-Learning module is available in SABA. Keep an eye out for further details as it becomes available.
The five reflection questions will be published in Workday on 8/20/2026.,
