JMP founder John Sall (@John_Sall) kicked off the Midyear Company Update by sharing a few cultural happenings. SAS celebrated its 50th anniversary with a massive 8,000-person picnic, a historic speech by Sall and Jim Goodnight, and a Forbes cover feature. Sall also shared that he and many others cheered on the Carolina Hurricanes throughout their Stanley Cup run, and that many employees traveled to see World Cup games across the US.

On the business front, we welcomed a new cohort of summer interns for 2026, shared that Discovery Seminars are driving excellent prospects, and gave a shout-out to Carla Paquet on a recent award. Sall also geeked out on telemetry data from JMP sessions and gave a brief update on the development of JMP 2027 (version 20).

First-half financials and operations
Finance Senior Director Jason Romanos (@jasonnzl) reported a record-breaking first half! We achieved historic highs in new software revenue, total software revenue, and EBITDA, highlighted by a record Apple win.

Operationally, Romanos shared that Procurement requests have dropped from 65 to 35, and that they’re targeting sub-30 by year-end. Additionally, Romanos said we’ve paused our standalone travel/credit card transition and remain on the SAS program.

The CEO’s perspective: H1 reflection and looking ahead
CEO Jon Weisz (@Jon_Weisz) shared that while our growth and EBITDA are robust, hitting our "Rule of 40" target requires strict adherence to current budget plans, so no unplanned hiring or new project spending can be added.
Looking ahead, customer-facing teams should focus on driving the right attendees to our upcoming Discovery Summits in Baltimore and Tokyo. Meanwhile, our APxJ teams continue to excel, highlighted by Japan's strong renewals and more than 30% TSR growth in China.
Finally, following a senior staff retreat, Weisz says we will be using upcoming sales meetings and the JMP Reunion in 2027 to gather your vital feedback on JMP’s values, alignment, and future direction.

Sales updates from around the world
Sales Senior Vice President Michael Scruggs (@Michael_Scruggs) shared that, as he urged at the 2026 Kickoff, JMP’s first half showcased incredible efficiency, agility, and urgency. Most notably, our Global Premiere team closed a historic Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) with Apple, the largest revenue event in JMP history by nearly 2X, supporting more than 10,000 JMP Pro users.
Additionally, despite a challenging economy, Japan grew new software revenue (NSR) by 25% year-over-year, while the broader APxJ region rebounded strongly with 42% TSR growth.

Next, Sales Vice President Todd Hoffman (@ToddHoffman) shared that our H1 European account expansion strategy was highly effective, yielding a 25% year-over-year increase in expanded customers. Although TSR growth finished at 9%, landing slightly below target due to annual license shortfalls, the team has made strategic course corrections for H2. Backed by cross-functional collaboration and dynamic live events, his teams are fully prepared to accelerate JMP’s momentum in the region.

Embracing tactile and in-person connections
JMP Marketing is blending the old with the new to drive growth. Marketing Senior Director Diana Levey (@Diana_Levey) says we’re currently tackling a major brand cleanup, updating old communication pieces with new brand guidelines and logos.

Key initiatives include the revival of JMP Foreword, a quarterly print magazine designed to bypass AI browser filters and offer tactile experiences for sales calls. Marketing is also launching the "JMP for Stats" app, which houses our complete Discovery Summit archives and the Statistics Knowledge Portal (SKP). Finally, Levey says we’re doubling down on high-impact, in-person connections with upcoming Discovery Seminars and the Baltimore, Tokyo, and Berlin Summits.

Wise words from our CEO
Weisz closed the half-year report with two big points.
First, he said we really need to control costs. “We have to be very careful about expenses if we want to achieve that profit goal,” Weisz said. “Hiring will be limited to only those positions we currently have in our 2026 plan. Any unplanned expenses will be scrutinized very closely and most likely deferred to next year. Growing our license user base is key to JMP’s future.”
Finally, he mentioned the backlash against AI. Like JMP, the world wants to solve problems with a human-first approach. “Don’t be shy about promoting what we have to offer.”
