Note from Trish: Developers, please triage any of your strings that are “stuck” in Stringbot for 20. Our first handoff of strings for V20 will be in August. We would like to get as many strings as possible included in handoff #1. Thank you!
19.1.4: Final Image Candidates 7/12/26 • 19.1.5: Security Freeze • 19.2: Security Freeze 8/6/26 • 20.0: open in main; Feature Freeze and EA5 Freeze 7/23/26
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for July 10, 2026!
It’s been a busy week, with 19.1.4 Security Freeze and 19.2 Code Freeze both occurring at the end of the day yesterday. Please check this report of items remaining with a Planned Version of 19.2 to triage any remaining items you may own that did not make this release.
Now that we have reached the end of 19.2 Approval Mode, if a critical showstopper bug arises, make sure that the Jira priority is set to Critical and discuss the problem in depth with your manager. If your manager agrees that it simply can’t wait for our next emergency bug fix release (19.2.3), they should raise it at the Ops meeting on Wednesday for further evaluation and discussion by managers.
Our standard practice is that any issue being considered for emergency integration must be fixed and tested in 20 (where equivalent code exists) and go through code review prior to being considered. Emergency fixes also require a champion from Product Management, User Enablement or Tech Support as well as approval by the appropriate testing manager and Travis LaPolla, our security manager. Although we expect cases like this to be rare, each emergency bug fix will be evaluated carefully and individually to ensure that making a change does not jeopardize existing release timelines aimed at delivering planned fixes for other issues.
A reminder that Thursday July 23 is Feature Freeze and Marketing Feature Freeze for 20. EA5 will be also built to match the nightly build on that day. Development should have a calendar item with a reminder to update feature pages by 9 am on Monday July 27 and send videos to Mia Stephens by close of business on Tuesday July 28. (If this reminder is not on your calendar, please reach out to Melanie Drake so she can resend it to you.) Speaking of the EA, thanks very much to product manager Sarah Sylvestre for sharing this blog on EA2 and EA3 participation!
Thanks very much to JMP Life Sciences developer Luciano Silva for presenting at this week’s JMP Dev meeting! Luciano shared the details about new JMP Pro features coming in 20 for full sib family haplotype (FSFHap) imputation, requested by customers at the USDA. If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here. And if you’re local, be sure to say hi to Luciano next week when he visits us from Brazil!
FYI that statistics developer Elyse Borgert organized a research-focused talk in the Thursday dev slot next week titled Data Integration Via Analysis of Subspaces (DIVAS) to be presented by Professor JS Marron from UNC Chapel Hill – please let her know if you would like to be added to the invite to attend this talk!

Getting ready for Brad Norris to start on my team next week - welcome Brad!
- Nick H: Worked on a new feature of the Unit Test GUI that will allow users to automatically populate the test list at the bottom of the window with their currently failing tests in the most recent nightly run. The feature works by querying the database for the user’s most recent failing tests, filtering by the OS you are running the GUI on. Hopefully this will help testers (me) check their nightly failures more often! I also worked on 20 beta feedback and other smaller verifications.

- Eric Horton:
- JMP-31392 http request failure, likely related to AspenTech Auth Method NTLM; Verified connection to the EC2 instance of AspenTech was fixed at JMP 19.1.4 and 19.2. Also verified a clean, full run of the /DataTable/ImportExport unit tests at both versions. Identified a benchmark that needed to be updated in /DataTable/ImportExport/testHTTP.jsl which eliminated an assertion failure.
- JMP-30799 Auto Tag Rules: Allow this to prompt when opening a database type file; Assisted Mandy with testing the “apply auto tagging rules” prompting when opening tables from Databricks, SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL on Windows and Databricks, PostgreSQL, OracleDB and SQL Server on Mac.
- Investigating a JMP crash report. Following up with the internal user.
- Hunter: Completed verification of the last items from my JMP 19.2 list. DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Working on providing scripting support for all of the converted sample size explorers. Hoping to finish it up today!
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl:
- Host changes to avoid trying to draw a window (show) while we are still in the process of measuring that window.
- Accessibility work: added checks for deleted display boxes in incoming OS client calls to avoid possible crashes. Still investigating and baffled why triggering a tooltip shifts screen reader focus away from the focused display box. Opened Jira for a11y work needed on MatrixDisplay.
- Icons: More icon updates. This work revealed a mismatch between the JMP light/dark theme icons and the preferred HTML theme when exporting HTML. Prototyping changes related to using a fluent-style red triangle popup icon; more work needed.

Fixed issues with the univariate stats report in Cat-MIIV (hid covariance matrix and added names to asymptotic covariance of estimates matrix). Met with Haley to discuss progress with Cat-MIIV, met with D&I action team to finalize vision and purpose statements, met with Meichen to finalize data example for Discovery. Writing a manuscript highlighting our SEM MIIV-2SLS functionality in mediation models.
- Elizabeth: Wrapping up work on the less restrictive non-proportional odds model for Ordinal data (JMP-27695). Showed it to Walt Stroup on Wednesday, and he’s excited by it, as currently the only method for fitting this model is with challenging PROC NLMIXED code. To his knowledge, we’ll be the only software with an “out of the box” solution for this model.
Stat Testing
- Tonya: Tested capability index plot labeling changes in Process Capability. In Process Screening, tested recent zone changes, Ksigma changes, Custom Test 1 changes, and alarm graph changes. In CUSUM, tested changes to the default sigma in the control panel as well as the redesign of the platform. Updated unit tests due to recent changes in Process Screening, Process Capability, and CUSUM. Bug verification.
Life Sciences Updates
- Jake:
- Created a comprehensive testing report for six different GNN models implemented in the JMP PyTorch Add-In tested on either the full QM9 dataset (~130,000 molecules total) or a subset of 5000 molecules.
- Made many changes to the PyTorch Add-In to improve the user experience. Some of the changes were cosmetic to the GUI, but most were in the Python code’s logic.
- Tested each model specifically in the JMP GUI with set seeds to ensure the output agreed with my pure Python testing.
- Fixed more than a few bugs in the Add-In code logic
- Identified several other “user experience” additions that I am trying to incorporate into the Add-In
- Importantly, I won the JMP Shuffleboard Summer Tournament, becoming the first graduate intern in at least a year to win the title
- Drew: Working on JMP Clinical 20 features for clinical study report creation and comparing results of reports side-by-side. Also researching solutions for JMP Clinical and DataBricks integrations as Novo Nordisk (and other customers) are using that for their clinical trials data.
- Richard: Working on a Clinical report to summarize Questionnaire data.
