JMP's first annual Pickleball Pickleback tournament raises $900 for charity

On Friday, May 29, JMP hosted the first annual charity pickleball tournament. Held at the SAS Tennis and Pickleball Courts, the event brought together 16 esteemed pickleball players, 12 from JMP, for a round-robin competition benefiting three charities: the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, WildTrack, and the Miracle League of the Triangle. The tournament was organized by James Koepfler (@JamesK4) and Larry LaRusso (@Larry_LaRusso) from JMP, along with John Taylor and Kate Leachman from SAS.

Thanks to the generosity of the players, who paid an entry fee to participate, and the many JMPers who made additional donations to the charities, the event raised a total of $900. To determine how funds were allocated, participants placed green chips - earned for each point scored in the tournament - into buckets representing each charity. The percentage of chips in each bucket determined the final distribution. The final results were:

Organization	Link	Donation Amount
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle	https://foodshuttle.org	$485.00
Miracle League of the Triangle	https://mltriangle.com	$215.00
WildTrack	https://wildtrack.org	$200.00
Total $900.00

After six rounds of competition and one final seeded match, Michael Crotty and Kate Milano were crowned the top male and female players, respectively. The event was such a success that plans are already underway to host the tournament again with a new set of charities. Keep an eye out for a future Inside JMP story once details are finalized.
