Juneteenth, a blending of June and the nineteenth, marks the actual end of slavery in the United States. While communities have celebrated this day for more than a century and a half, it became an official US federal holiday in 2021.
Juneteenth invites us to pause and reflect honestly on a painful and devastating period of American history that continues to shape our society. It is a time to commit to ongoing education and use those insights to foster a more equitable and inclusive future.
At JMP, we deeply value curiosity and growth. Here is a meaningful opportunity for all of us to learn and reflect. As a reminder, JMP will continue the practice we have followed for the past several years of observing a Global Recharge Day on Friday, June 19, in recognition of the Juneteenth holiday in the U.S. JMP will be closed, and employees are encouraged to fully step away from work, rest, reflect, and recharge.
