What inspired this Wish List Request?
Introducing some customers to WFB using the hands-on activity, we realized that our usual trick to turn off the import step to trigger a generalized workflow doesn't work with the import wizards. The import wizards encapsulate a good chunk of the important processing information into the step itself, so the only way to generalize something with one of the import wizards is to edit the workflow step manually as described in Don's JSL Cookbook Example: JSL Cookbook Example. Having something basic like importing an execl file require code editing kind of goes against our positioning for the WFB as JMP's "No Code Automation" tool.
Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see.
Make the WFB aware of when the user is adding one of the import wizard steps and adjust accordingly. This could be done a couple of ways:
- Adjust the log script when added to WFB to conform to the Pick File method Don outlines in the cookbook article. Possibly with a red triangle menu option that's only active when WFB recognizes that there's a wizard step being recorded.
- (My preferred option - but more involved) Add a special type to step to WFB that handles the File Open actions. The step would parse from the recorded JSL, the path, import requirements, etc. and present the user with a check box in the step settings to prompt the user for a file rather than running the recorded path.
What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided?
WFB is JMP's no-code solution for automation - we need to make the core uses truly no-code for it to reach its full potential with new and existing users.
Is this an external customer request?
Not directly - but it doesn't look great when our basic introduction activity requires code editing to be generalized how most users would expect it to be.
Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of?
N/A
Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this?
WFB is a major tool for expansion and shelf ware consumption in the semi vertical. Anything we can do to make it easier to use and generalize will positively impact renewals, expansion, and adoption metrics.
