The integrity of our data is fundamental to how we build software and support our customers. JMP Legal has published the JMP Data Retention and Classification Policy, which is now fully in effect to ensure our systems remain compliant and organized.

You may remember the introduction to this Policy and how the Salesforce team is implementing these new requirements, but now all departments across JMP can review how their data should be managed. Again, this isn't just about deleting old files; it’s a massive win for JMP’s security posture, our system efficiency, and our commitment to being a privacy-first organization.
Purpose
The purpose of this Policy is to establish requirements for the retention and disposal of JMP's records and to define how those records are classified and handled based on their sensitivity. This Policy is designed to prevent premature or tardy destruction of records. Premature destruction could result in loss of valuable information, compliance risk, and possible legal implications. Tardy destruction could result in high costs to store, maintain, and retrieve records that no longer serve a useful business purpose, as well as legal implications for retaining out-of-date information. Retention periods are determined based on business necessity and legal/regulatory requirements.
What this means
At its core, this Policy governs how long we keep data in our systems. While storage may seem limitless, retaining inaccurate, inactive, or outdated data can compromise data quality and contribute to system inefficiencies. Additionally, by establishing clear timelines for data storage, we ensure JMP meets evolving global data privacy and security regulations. By removing the noise of outdated information, we ensure the data you interact with daily is accurate, reliable, and relevant to your current work.
Collaboration and approval
This Policy was developed by JMP Legal through extensive cross-functional collaboration. All department heads were involved in the review and approval of these guidelines to ensure they meet the specific operational needs of every team across JMP.
Where to find the Policy
