The Events team has truly outdone themselves this time.
After months of scouting for a location that offers zero distractions and maximum focus, we are thrilled to announce that JMP Discovery Summit 2027 will be held at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica.
Forget bustling city centers and crowded convention centers, we are taking "cool uses of data" literally. “After evaluating several major metropolitan hubs, we realized that nothing fosters a true deep dive into data quite like being 800 miles from the nearest coffee shop,” Senior Marketing Manager Holly Connors (@holly_connors) said. “Plus, the acoustics in a natural ice cavern are surprisingly superior to any hotel ballroom we’ve ever used."
Unbeatable plenaries and chilling breakouts
Ice breaker sessions will take place in the mornings and will kick off with attendees helping to clear the main entrance. It’s the ultimate teambuilding exercise.
You won’t want to miss the fireside chat, minus the actual fire, for safety reasons, featuring JMP leadership panelists as they discuss the future of global collaboration.
"You’ll also have a chance to meet the locals!" Marketing Senior Director Diana Levey (@Diana_Levey) said. "We have recruited a local colony of Emperor penguins to help distribute lanyards and guide attendees to their respective breakout igloos."
Logistics and survival (er, registration) tips
We know JMP staff probably have a lot of questions, so here are a few quick logistics to keep in mind:
- Forget standard flights. Travel will involve a military transport plane followed by a brisk 45-mile trek via dog sled. Please plan your travel expense reports accordingly.
- We are pivoting from business casual to extreme Arctic survival chic. Layering is not just encouraged; it is mandatory.
- The menu will feature a rotating selection of freeze-dried delicacies, hot broth, and as much shaved ice as you can possibly eat.
Happy April Fool's Day, JMP! While we (unfortunately) won't be hanging out with polar bears or penguins in sub-zero temperatures anytime soon, Discovery Summit 2026 takes place in Baltimore, Oct. 19-22. Registration will open on April 14! Stay tuned.
Google says that, out of 171 reviews, they rated a 4.2 out of 5, a bit lower than the Sorrento Hilton at 4.5, but still good. But I'm a bit worried that my IPhone compass app won't work there.
The coffee shop Holly mentioned is at McMurdo Station about 840 miles away and is creatively named "The Coffee House". There is bicycle parking outside (no, I'm serious, check out some photos on Google Maps).
