19.1: Release expected 3/17/26 • 19.1.1: Security fixes only • 20.0: open in main • 20 EA2 Freeze 3/19/26
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for March 13, 2026!
Happy Pi Day tomorrow, and don’t forget that Monday, March 16, is a Global Rest and Recharge Day for all of JMP! Also, happy St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, when we plan to release JMP 19.1 in MyJMP. The JMP 19.1.1 branch has been created, and the build/installer/unit test infrastructure is up and running for our next monthly security release. Security champions have access to the branch to push required third-party library updates. Please let Jim Borek know if you have any questions.
As we look forward to branching for JMP 19.1.3 in a few short months, please recall that our XX.X.3 releases permit consideration of critical functional bug fixes in addition to security updates. Here’s the page about the X.X.3 approval process – it’s different (and stricter) than our regular maintenance release approval process.
Most fixes we consider for XX.X.3 are critical CRPs like incorrect numerics or widespread crashes. The first step in moving a candidate into consideration for 19.1.3 is to get Wendy Murphrey, Jeff Perkinson, or Dan Valente to sponsor the emergency bug fix. If you have a candidate item that includes 19.1.3 in Planned Versions, please fix the issue ASAP, have the fix tested in 20.0 and 19.2, and reach out to the appropriate manager listed above to ask them to sponsor your fix. Ideally, all fixes for 19.1.3 will be completely approved and tested in 20/19.2 by the time the 19.1.3 branch opens.
We also have our JMP 20 EA2 Freeze upcoming on March 19. As noted in the Outlook reminder that is on your calendar for that day, if you have a feature you’d like to highlight in EA 2, please make sure to update the feature page. If you haven’t created one yet, please do so using the Template for JMP 20 Feature Pages. The most critical information is within the Motivation and Summary section of the template. If this is your first time creating a feature page, see this How-to for more information or work with your product manager. The deadline for creating or updating feature pages is 9 am on Monday, March 23, and you should have EA videos to Mia by COB Tuesday, March 24. Please see EA Video Guidelines or reach out to Mia Stephens with any questions.
Thanks to Mandy Chambers for the reminder that JMP will be celebrating International Women’s Day with a panel discussion next Wednesday in A5111 and on Teams. You can see this Inside JMP article for more details about this event, which will offer pastries and cookies to go with your coffee cart beverage! Throughout March, JMP is also collecting donations for InterAct, which is dedicated to ending the cycle of domestic and sexual violence in Wake County.

JMP Development Updates
Life Sciences Updates
- Richard:
- Debugging for JMPC 19.2.
- Developing new feature for subgroup forest plots.
- My data visualization course is a reality!
- BIOS 513: Data Visualization with Applications to the Life Sciences (3 credits), Department of Biostatistics at UNC-Chapel Hill, Fall 2026
- It will be a unique offering in that it is a portfolio-based course. Students will be required to use a mixture of instructor-provided and student-identified sources from the scientific literature. The portfolios will include:
- A brief description of the data, and what you wanted to communicate with your data visualization.
- The reason why you selected this particular data visualization for communication, including detailed explanations for particular choices (e.g., colors, shapes, sizes, etc.).
- A summary of notable findings, including an interpretation of what the data visualization is telling us in the context of the scientific article and/or data source. Notable findings should be in language that a general audience should be able to understand, free from excessive jargon.
- Students will be expected to select their 3 strongest data visualizations to present to the class.
- Most importantly, this course will be taught using JMP so that students outside of biostatistics can benefit from the material (though students are able to produce their portfolio using any software they wish). Data visualization is a skill that everyone needs to develop, whether or not an individual ends up producing plots as part of their day-to-day work.
Technical Support and Engagement
- Gary: Wendy is taking an extended weekend off today. Kai Janson from Tech Support and Corrado Tricoli from Engagement represented the Tech Support booth at Discovery Summit in Sorrento. They engaged in many productive conversations and met contacts we've previously interacted with through support cases. Judging by the photos, it seems the event was a great success. The team is prepared to address any questions when JMP 19.1 launches on Tuesday. :four_leaf_clover:

- Jill: 3/9 UI string review and reviewing UG Jiras to see if they affect documentation.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Eric: Created goals for 2026 in Workday. Investigated beta report Case Number 00281655 in which a customer reported that JMP20 EA ODBC query speed was “dramatically and unacceptably” slower than JMP17. I was able to replicate the slower performance and found that it was due to Oracle connection lag related to JMP-27488. Code was pushed to JMP20 after EA1 was released. I was able to verify much faster speed in the latest JMP20 build (even faster than JMP17!). Customer should be pleased with EA2.
- Hunter: More projects testing to identify issues introduced by the new data table linked items changes. Tested updates from Dan Schikore that corrected problems with unexpected prompting from specific reports when closing the project window and zip file errors displayed in the log when moving items within the project contents pane. Investigated issues with several JIRAs affecting authorization, logging at startup, and crash file creation. Reviewed more localized documents.
- Nick H: Continued work on our prod dashboard project — we are now ready to move testers to the jmptoolprod hosted dashboard. Worked on unit tests for new JMP data table scripting functionality. I got ‘hack’ builds working in windows and Mac to verify strings that should be exported for translation. I also played around with some of the new Mimic testing framework.
- Mandy: Worked on EA2 items for the cut off next week. Working on Journals (and testing) for Tables > Summary, Transpose, Split and Stack - will make 3 EA videos for these. Also working on Auto Tagging for columns - making a Journal and EA video for this too. Reported a few crashes - and also answered a few EA1 things for JMP 20.
- Audrey: Working with Justin Kusch and some kind SAS folks to try and revive a Viya server that is used for testing but was orphaned when our China offices were closed. Testing the latest changes for the jmptoolprod Testing Dashboard. Early preparations for summer interns.
Web Testing – Cary
- Josh:
- JMP Live 19.1 QA sign-off is complete.
- JMP Live and HTML5 testing is ongoing for version 20.
- Encountered several installer issues in JMP Live 19.5 and 20.0, which required additional troubleshooting and follow-up.
- Set up a system to support Hui with her 19.5 integration testing.
- Answered various deployment and configuration questions.
- Provided ongoing assistance to testers and developers as needed.

- Anna:
- Narrowed down SETINIT crash I reported (that Hunter came across as well) to a CL Dave Barbour pushed for a local scoped variable issue. Daniel Powell is investigating and hopefully w/push fix today.
- Verifying fixes and reviewing JMP desktop changes to test new data viewer functionality in JMP Live.
- Investigating mosaic axis issues on desktop I noticed w/charts that display missing values.
- Entered Jira for regression issue that Paul S noticed w/mosaic axis and missing values.
- Reported issues:
- Publish to JMP Live gives: Token is invalid
- GB: Mosaic: Value omitted when table includes missing values
- GB: Mosaic: 0 value not shown on Percent axis
- GB: Export Interactive HTML with data no longer opens file automatically
- Win: Get SETINIT exception when invoke JMP Pro after clean install
- GB: Duplicate axis values shown due to rounding
- GB: Mosaic: Axis reserves space for value but chart does not when associated values are missing
- DV: Do we want to persist new data table filters and allow users to apply them?
- DV: Add color for label column property icon in in Column Properties panel
- GB: Mosaic: Missing values affect axis layout (regression Jira for issue Paul noticed)
- Seema: Thanks to the JMP Livedevelopers for knocking out a bunch of Jiras during their flex days of helping test out with verifications. They took all the hard ones that I'd still be working on!
- Accepted and Closed:
- Front end: Handle JSON summary objects that cut across location (top) chart and dispersion (bottom) chart
- Connection Error Jiras- there were a slew of these related to PAT and other general error messaging with PAT
- Warnings panel: warning row not in focus when selecting Triage within Control Chart Reports with By group
- Created Jiras:
- Different default options in JMP when publishing report using data that already exists in JMP Live
- Can't view PS Chart as Selected when report is part of a Dashboard
- In Progress:
- Drop all warnings information about Process Screening platform if found alongside CCB
- Hui:
- Continued JMP Live 19.5 i18n testing, identifying test-environment instability as a risk to consistent execution and release confidence.
- Opened 7 Jira issues (5 WebJMP, 1 Desktop, 1 HTML5) to address localization gaps and closed 4, reducing re-test churn during late test cycles and downstream regression risk.
- Drove resolution of multiple JMP Live 19.5 dev environment blockers (admin access, environment stability, slowness) in collaboration with Josh, Seema, and Steve, restoring a stable path for i18n validation.
- Taylor:
- Accepted and Closed:
- Cleanup Empty folders showing multiple space's folders in space view
- Deleting a space results in an error saying space not found
- Create Report on JMP Live - Never Regenerated
- Failure to navigate to space: error loading recordSpaceVisit
- Mateo: Updating some automated UI tests in our 20.0 branch. I also made some updates to our automation pipelines for them to more robustly handle error cases.
Core
- Dan S: Linked Item updates - improvements to Save dialog, initial work on File>Save/SaveAs/Close for linked tables (which do not appear as linked items by default yet), and fixes for linked items in Projects. Fixes for Diagram by-group, allowing some group functionality even though the platform is not linked to a Data Table.
- Xan Gregg: Pseudo-log axis: fixes based on EA1 feedback; mosaic axis work after html5 discovery; save smoother formula for non-continuous X variables.
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl:
- Icons on toggle buttons and default buttons should have better contrast now. I updated the button code to load the icon from the proper light/dark set based on the button text color. This came to light when I saw Richard Zink's R&D demo; he uses a dark selection color and there is a toggle in the animation controls. Before/After:

- Updated the Revel (F9) UI to include window icons and improved visibility of the the close button.
- Researched and am moving forward with changes needed to install the Visual C++ Redistributable files directly as part of the JMP install instead of running a stand-alone child process at install time. This will eliminate another place we require administrative rights to install and should help reduce support calls when the child install has failed. The files will now be copied into the jmp.exe build location where forthcoming nightly build and installer changes will pick them up. (JMP-29434)
- Michael H: PI Server Import work
- Added a “poor man’s stacking” option for Tags, allowing tag names to be split on a delimiter to automatically create stacking columns.
- Improved large imports so that when the number of streams exceeds server limits, requests are automatically split into smaller batches. (JMP-26596)
- Fixed a bug where repeated PI Server imports could gradually corrupt saved preferences.
- Began implementing JSL support for PI Tags.
- Will: Working on adding token rotation to Databricks. This should eliminate the need for users to continue to manually generate new authentication tokens for Databricks when they use this method of authentication.
Interactive HTML
- John Powell:
- Performed whitebox testing for a day and reported observations.
- Investigated dynamic module importing to see if it could improve intermittent build issues.
- Found and fixed circular dependencies that were not reported by our build tools(setLineDash, JMPHTML-15341).
- Investigated automated Interactive HTML testing image difference(JMPHTML-15346).
- Investigated slow dashboard loading (JMPHTML-1308).
- Investigated incorrect tooltip(and colors) when cell plot X axis reversed(JMPHTML-15345).
- Planned interviews for summer intern.
- Entered business goals into Workday.
- Mike Stickles: Continued addressing failed tests related to the Bar Segment refactoring project (JMPHTML-489). All issues caused by tests that needed to be updated to handle the refactored code (~80 tests) have been addressed. Of the handful of actual bar segment code problems, only two issues remain to debug. Hope to have those resolved early next week.
JMP Live
- Aurora: 19.5 - Surface last accessed (by anyone) time on a package, restrict access to platform_properties via Rest API. 20.0: Convert groups code to TypeScript. Other - Helping out with testing.
Statistics
- Laura C-S: Fixed some SEM bugs related to partial time values in longitudinal models and telemetry. Also, updated the SEM UI to make the Model Shortcuts menu more noticeable. Integrated several bug fixes into 19.2. Wrote an abstract for Discovery Americas. Making inquiries about JMP Partner program for an SEM consultant.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Completed IT training for Q1. Worked with Devon and Shannon L to scope out project of stat writers rewriting all documentation equations in LaTeX markup (as part of the Oxygen transition). Continued work on obtaining permissions for a couple different sample data tables that we hope to add for JMP 20. Attended regular meetings.
Stat Testing
- Tonya: Updated process screening unit tests due to changes related to drawing step function control limits. Testing nonnormal capability analysis, spec limits and test out of spec for distributional charts in Process Screening. Investigating Process Screening EA feedback. Bug verification.
Note from Shannon
