Tips & Tricks from the Meeting
Here are a few key takeaways shared during the session:
Tip & Trick #1: Save Early and Save Often
When working in JMP, make sure to save your work frequently to avoid losing progress.
Tip & Trick #2: Use Keyboard Shortcuts in JMP
Keyboard shortcuts can help speed up your workflow when navigating and working in JMP.
Tip & Trick #3: Quick Zoom in Meetings
When presenting or viewing content in Microsoft Teams, hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) and use your scroll wheel to zoom in or out for better visibility.
Tip & Trick #4: Understanding Nested Data
Nested data refers to a hierarchical relationship, similar to an organizational chart. For example, Greater China and SE Asia are nested within APXJ, meaning they cannot appear in any other Sales Region.
Tip & Trick #5: Data Cleaning is a Major Part of the Process
More than half of your time analyzing data may be spent cleaning and preparing your dataset, and that’s completely normal. JMP helps make identifying and correcting data problems easier.
Tip & Trick #6: Save Scripts Directly to Your Data Table
You can quickly store analysis steps in your data table using the red triangle menu:
Red triangle next to Graph Builder → Save Script → To Data Table
Tip & Trick #7: Explore Built-In Sample Workflows
JMP installations include workflow examples in the Samples section. These can be helpful starting points for building your own automated processes.
Tip & Trick #8: Example Workflow Shared in the Session
Lauren demonstrated a workflow used for Monthly NR Updates – Renewal Protection:

Tip & Trick #9: Try the JMP Assistant for Data Simulation
The Assistant tool can help simulate many types of data, including financial models. It could even be used to recreate Lauren’s workflow setup for demonstrations.
Example files shared:
Tip & Trick #10: Access Early Access (EA) Releases
Early Access releases are available through My JMP, and all JMP staff have access. If you encounter issues, they can be reported to jmpbeta@jmp.com.
Tip & Trick #11: Reporting JMP Crashes Helps Improve the Software
If JMP crashes, the next time you launch the program you’ll be prompted to send crash files. Include your email and details about what you were doing when the crash occurred.
The crash reporting system uses internal scripts to match reports with known issues and help the development and support teams investigate and improve product stability.
