As we close the chapter on 2025, it’s natural to reflect on the victories, the challenges, and the incredible amount of work that shaped 2025. We’re excited to introduce the 2025 Year in Review series, which documents the accomplishments and defining moments that shaped the company's journey.
Over the next few weeks, this series explores how our collective efforts contributed to a year of success through the lens of our core JMP Brand Pillars: Innovative, Interactive, Helpful, Trusted, and Approachable.
Each article showcases major milestones and highlights, featuring insights directly from our leadership on how various departments successfully met their goals and what these achievements mean for our path forward.
And as we look back, I encourage you to view this year’s journey not as a collection of separate tasks, but as a celestial event, or, as John Sall (@John_Sall), founder of JMP, would say, a syzygy.
Syzygy: Aligning our processes, amplifying our power
Sall shares insights during a dynamic panel discussion at JMP Reunion.
Sall first introduced this term at the JMP Reunion in April (listen to his remarks beginning at the 23-minute mark). Recently, Sall discussed how syzygy factored into company operations in 2025:
“My word, syzygy (from the Greek syzygos, ‘yoked together’) was a plea for aligning our efforts. In particular, I was concerned that the bureaucracy and compliance systems needed in growing into a bigger company were bogging down everyday processes and robbing time from more productive work. I think we have made significant progress here. Here are a few examples:
- We have simplified things for our customer success story group, who, for a while, couldn't get customers to get their legal representatives sign the new release documents. We now have a less restrictive process in place.
- More recently, we have been challenged to streamline procurement systems, since too many purchases had to go through both JMP and SAS procurement, doubling the burden.
- We will continue to have security hurdles as we recognize the need to be compliant with SOC 2, but doing so will help us avoid customer compliance questionnaires.
Building systems can more often produce amazing efficiencies rather than increasing burdens, as we have seen by our Digital Operations successes. We will need continued patience and accommodation as we work together to smooth out our business.”
Stay tuned!
Be sure to follow along throughout December as we showcase our 2025 accomplishments through the lens of the JMP Brand Pillars, guiding us toward an even better aligned future.
