Creating a new SQL Database exampleHey,
I would like to do another example than the DVD one for a database query demonstration in Life Science.
I would like to use the two attached XLS files (with a key on the Subject ID) but I don't know how to import/add them in SQL.
There are not so much details in documentation to write in a database, and I don't know SQL environment.
Is anybody has any guidelines to do that?
Thank a lot,
Florence
Re: Creating a new SQL Database exampleIt works pretty well !
Thank you !

Re: Creating a new SQL Database exampleBummer that site is down. There is also a free Firefox management plugin that would accomplish the same thing, but I have not tried it:

Re: Creating a new SQL Database exampleHi Florence,
Alternatively, we have an Oracle DB with clinical trial data. With the appropriate driver it can be accessed from both Mac and Windows version of QB.
The database is hosted in Cary. Some of the tables are very large so letting queries run in background and view any running queries would be appropriate.
"ClinicalTrials.gov currently lists 199,810 studies with locations in all 50 States and in 190 countries."
I tested the connection this morning and it is still active.

Re: Creating a new SQL Database exampleThat does sound easier than using the import wizard for MS SQL server. I'll have to try it.
Thanks,
Phil
Re: Creating a new SQL Database exampleConverting XLS files to SQLite database to easily give QB demos
Dan V posted a way to do this (above). It worked for me. Very simple.
Another way I used (before I knew about Dan's method) was to import excel tables into the DB that we created for the kickoff training. You can use the Microsoft sql server import and export wizard. It is a bit more complicated. Possibly more stable though?

Phil
Re: Creating a new SQL Database exampleHello Florence,
the easiest way is to import the data into JMP and then to save the tables in the data base.
Best regards
Bernd
Re: Creating a new SQL Database exampleTheoretically you don't need it, but (on the Mac) I use:
http://www.sequelpro.com
It just makes this kind of thing very easy. I've probably been using GUIs too long . . .
