19.0: installer validation • 19.0.1: security fixes only until 10/2 • 19.1: all changes require code review – approval begins 12/11 • 20.0: open in main • 20 EA1: 1/22/26
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for September 19, 2025!
Thanks to Mia Stephens for sharing that Discovery Summit 2025 Online: Early User Edition is Wed, Sep 24 and Thu, Sep 25, 2025, 11:30 AM - 3:00 PM EDT. If you’d like to join, please register with your JMP email address. Note that Meet the Experts will be staffed by US SEs.
Also, Mia notes that the Early Adopter program is now closed and will reopen in January 2026. The JMP 20 EA1 freeze date is now planned for January 22, 2026. EA members from the JMP 19 cycle will automatically roll into the JMP 20 EA program. Authorized JMP users can request access at any time via jmp.com/earlyadopter, but they will not be able to access downloads or EA information until the program reopens.
With JMP 19.0 now released in MyJMP, customers are adopting the software and sending us bugs and crashes. Customer care, technical support and development collaborated this week on our most critical issue reported so far, a problem only impacting new installs of JMP Student Edition 19 on the Mac. Development now has a work-around for repairing the install of impacted customers, but for the time being, JMP Student Edition 19.0 has been removed from MyJMP and replaced with JMP Student Edition 18.2.2 which is not impacted. This issue is planned to be fixed with 19.0.1.
The cause of the bug is elevated permissions on the folder ~/Library/Application Support/JMP that prevent a license file from being saved there during authorization. In JMP 19 on the Mac, this folder is created as root by the installer and the JMP Student add-in is copied there. In JMP Student Edition 18.2.2, a post-install script kicked off another perl script that successfully updated permissions on the folder to allow the license to be written with local user permissions during authorization. Although this script is also run by the JMP Student Edition 19 installer, it no longer updates permissions as expected. As a result, when JMP authorizes and attempts to write a license.plist file to that location with local user permissions, the write fails.
According to Mac developer Michael Hecht, “It appears that the “postinstall” script gets the correct $HOME (i.e., /Users/userid). But if that script calls a child script, the child gets the wrong $HOME (/var/root, the root process’ home directory). Since this used to work, the theory is that Apple changed Installer’s behavior presumably for security purposes.” Michael has been working with Jim Borek on a fix that looks promising in initial testing. During the 19.0 install testing phase, the testers who checked JMP Student Edition 19 did not encounter this permission issue because the folder ~/Library/Application Support/JMP already existed on their machines. Testing has updated the cleanup scripts that they use during installer testing to make it easier to find issues like this in the future.
In addition to thanking everyone who helped investigate, work around and consider fixes for the Student Edition installer issue, I also wanted to say a special thank you to JMP SEs who have been some of the first people to report crashes in JMP 19! I have been reviewing new JMP 19 crashes as they come in and several of the problems identified by SEs have already been replicated by R&D, turned into Jira issues and fixed for a future release. Your detailed replication cases are extremely helpful in shortening the process from crash report to fixed defect! I also wanted to thank developers who have looked at recent crashes with much less information from the customer and identified replication cases. Reporting our crashes and working with development on solutions contributes to JMP’s stability – please keep your contributions coming!
Thanks also to Clay Barker for hosting an R&D seminar this Thursday with Dr. Leonard Stefanski and Sihyung Park from the NCSU stats department! They presented on their research on the topic of Fractional Ridge regression. If you missed the meeting, please reach out to Clay for a recording!
Shannon Leslie shared the following important info for us Atlassian users:
Atlassian tools tips & tricks for September 2025: Sorting tips + new Confluence Company Hub
Sort by Type, Key, Summary in new collapsed Work column
In a recent change to Jira search results display, the Issue Type, Key, and Summary columns have all been combined into one Work column in the All Work views. While hidden behind a '…' menu in the Work column, it is still possible to individually sort that data by those fields. Instructions along with screenshots are documented here
Confluence Company Hub
In our new Company Hub, we now host the curated Space Directory that was previously in managed in the Product Marketing space. A link to the Hub is available in the top-left Confluence sidebar, and at the following url: https://jmpdiscovery.atlassian.net/wiki/company-hub
Contact Shannon Leslie or any of the other JMP Atlassian admins with questions. Also check out our JMP Atlassian Q&A Teams channel, where this and other Atlassian information will continue to be shared.

JMP Development Updates
Web Testing – Cary
- Josh
- Login Issue on Public.JMP.com: A workaround is currently in place. Chris Humphrey and I are continuing to investigate the root cause. It appears that JMP Live may not fully trust the load balancer, and we’re working toward a permanent resolution.
- JMP Live System Verification Test (SVT): Focused on regression testing and long-duration system health checks without reboots or software updates.
- Automation & Monitoring: Developed a Python script running as a service on the long-run machine. It monitors the database, node, and JMP processes, and writes metrics to a remote PostgreSQL database. A JMP Data Connector in Live pulls this data hourly for reporting.
- Next Steps: Continuing to refine the reports for better visibility and insights.

- Anna:
- Testing change Xan is making for Graph Builder to support row-run aggregation on axis for Annie to use for CCB. (JMP-27090) This currently does not work when exported to HTML5.
- Met with Justin to find out what capabilities are currently available for data editing in JMP Live. Currently just add/delete rows and update data values via cells in data table.
- Verified bug fixes.
System/Host Testing-Beijing
Core
- Evan: Added Share Graph and Share Table alongside Copy Graph and Copy Table. These are still in progress and might not yet work well with all share destination apps. Addressed some telemetry instrumentation issues. Removed unnecessary context menu for DataTable left-panel headers. Fixed minor issue with DirectWrite code (Tag Emoji) in non-en locale. Adding Copy Table and Share Table for CrossTab and Tabulate. Adding HTML to formats copied for all tables. Brainstorming copy/paste survey for Discovery US.
- Dave B: Fixed a mac only add-ins menu updating bug. Fixed a marker seg journal bug. Pushed a fix for a tab box / journal crash. Fixed a selection color bug with 3d graph legends. Investigated an anonymous crash in the LabelRow destructor.
- Dan S: Reviewing and fixing issues with Platform launchers that behave differently than others. Fixed crash in Contour Plot when legend is customized reported by SE Charlie Whitman (JMP-28001). Fixing SendToReport issues for embedded Graph Builder instances in other platforms.
- Ernest: Fixes for slow column selections on wide tables. Columns Manager closing crashes. Experimenting with arbitrary selection linking.
- Xan: 19.1 fixes, including transform scoping issue Brady found.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Preparing for the upcoming ISEA summit and working to finish up some analysis on the additive manufacturing project with Ryan DeWitt. I've also continued looking into sample size explorer bugs.
Hosting and Interfaces
- Michael H:
- Collaborated with Jim Borek to fix a folder permissions issue in the Mac JMP Student Edition installer.
- Collaborated with Jeff Perkinson to construct a repair tool to fix bad Mac JMP Student Edition installs.
- Feature improvements to IP.21 import: import non-archiving tags as table variables; add option to use tag descriptions instead of tag names for imported column names.
- Added Mac support for multi-column checkbox radio box host controls.
- Beginning work to improve JMP 20’s appearance on macOS Tahoe.
- John Schroedl: Resumed research on possibly using OS UI automation classes to make JMP accessible to screen readers. Vetting VS2026 preview build and reported two compiler bugs to Microsoft. Added hostSupportsShare API for portable use. Pushed changes to FileSystemWatcher on Windows to handle more cases where the folder is deleted externally out from under JMP. Improved selected list item and menu coloring in high contrast mode. Investigated my first JMP 19.0 crash report; thankfully, it is in a third-party DLL and not JMP code.
Interactive HTML
- Paul Spychala:
- I have been working on issues and improvements for 20/19.1.
- Made resizing of graphs easier (larger resize area) in HTML (JMPHTML-14930)
- Properly consider padding when creating a canvas in HTML (JMPHTML-14344)
- Prevent JMPLive menu items from appearing in standalone HTML when export through JSL (JMPHTML-14611)
- Position rules for Menu’s when browser size is extremely small adjusted (JMPHTML-14931)
- Fit to Window sizing will better handle dummy SpacerBoxes better (JMPHTML-14923)
- Fit to Window setting change will now invalidate cached offsets (JMPHTML-14731)
- Modified findScriptItem method to allow searching for MenuOnly items as well with a new attribute (JMPHTML-14936)
- Column Switcher on JMPLive will properly reset axis/scale change payload (JMPHTML-14959)
- John Powell:
- Warn users that row states are not supported in web best process screening's charts as selected (JMPHTML-14269, JMPHTML-14447).
- Warn users that user defined clipping is not supported in Interactive HTML (JMPHTML-14963).
- Make graphs in Hierarchical Clustering platform with By groups render static (JMPHTML-14973).
- Integrated bug fixes into 19.1.
- Started Q3 Check-in conversations.
- Tried out updated JMP Public to see JMP 19 Interactive HTML improvements automatically applied to old posts.
- Mike Stickles:
- Completed fix for JMPHTML-14483 (GB: Line: Stacked chart yields different result w/Ordering=Summarized), tooltips now show the correct information. Testing approved it in 20.0; will be integrating the fix into 19.1 next week.
- Fixed bug JMPHTML-14974 (Unsupported legend types MarkerSizeCat, CellSize and Arrow don't get specific log messages) and pushed for testing (20.0 integration build succeeded). Will integrate into 19.1 (so we can get improved telemetry) once testing has approved it in 20.0.
- Began working on JMPHTML-14954 (Mosaic HTML not matching JMP after change list 881495), still in initial investigation stage.
- Worked a short week (out on vacation Thursday afternoon and all of Friday).
JMP Live
- Aurora: 19.1 - Improve sorting of control chart warnings, complain more explicitly about missing transactions, improve access record cleanup for deleted user. 19.5 - Tweak to changing ownership of all posts in folder or space. 20.0 - Triage in process screening (documentation as prep). Other - GitKraken renewal.
Statistics
- John Sall: In Process Screening, beginning to implement a Phase role, essentially putting several groups in the same chart (JMP-28040).

- Annie: Worked on the last changes to the improved sort/granularity option (by row order) together with Xan and we integrated all the changes in v19.1. Now, CCB is faster, the axes are cleaner, aggregates adjacent rows with the same values, it handles missing values and excluded rows well, and sorts within each phase level.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Continued work on developing a JMP-specific analytics word list for the documentation style guide. Met with doc team to review style guide work. Completed Q3 conversation meetings with my team. Planning for 19.1 and 20 projects. Incorporated feedback into a set of guidelines for developing statistical platforms in JMP: Statistical Platform Guidelines (this was joint work with James Koepfler and Colleen McKendry).

- Hope you all saw this profiler of JMP Life Sciences developer Meichen Dong on InsideJMP this week!
- Wenjun: Valerie Nedbal and I attended the GSRS 2025 conference in Lausanne, Switzerland. GSRS has been led by FDA and joined by many scientists from regulatory agencies and industry for yearly conference. Wenjun was invited to give a talk titled: Insight to Standard: ML Prediction Models and LLMs for Omics Data Reanalysis and Standardization.
- Drew: Implemented snapshot filtering on patient profiler. Fixed JMPC 19.1 Jiras. Finishing add-ins for tabulate DOCX formatting and IQ/OQ PDF gen.
Product Management and Product Marketing
- Bryan F:
- Continued correspondence with Meredith College about a student who was unable to use JMP because the student is blind. Conversations with Host and Core team developers regarding how we can begin to make JMP more accessible via the keyboard and screen readers. I realize it might seem that JMP requires sight because it has so many graphs, but that assumption is being challenged by SAS. SAS has made major headway in making their products accessible as evidenced by their VPATs and the SAS Graphics Accelerator. I trust that with the values that we espouse that we will want to do more to make JMP accessible.
- Evan McCorkle updated to macOS Tahoe and noticed that JMP 20 on the Mac had a number of noticeable GUI problems which I added here: JMP-28052. Evan’s quick attention to this issue made it evident that updating the JMP 19 build machine to Tahoe would be a significant problem at the moment. Thanks also to Andrew Vitkus for filing the defect and to Xan and Will Morgan for noting other issues. Also, thanks to Michael Hecht for quickly turning around a partial fix.
- Began a second review of the AI Assistant being developed by Russ and his team (e.g., Chunwei Ma and Yiran Song) from a usability heuristics point of view.
- Working on developing metrics using telemetry that could help prioritize work based on feature usage.
Technical Support and Engagement
- Wendy: It’s been a busy week for the Support teams.
- Technical Support acted quickly to identify and offer a workaround to JMP Student Edition 19 users on the Mac. Thanks to Bob Hickey for replacing v19 with v18.2.2 Student Edition and to Michael Hecht and Hunter Weaver for providing a tool to resolve the folder issue. We look forward to the fix in JMP Student Edition 19.0.1.
- Engagement is still experiencing higher than normal case volume, though less than compared to the previous few weeks.
- Below are the usual graphs for case volume as well as topics for both Tech Support and Engagement. Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by Support for the last 14 days.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Working on Jiras for 20 in preparation for integration to 19.1; Brady noted a number of issues in 19.0 that can likely be addressed and improved for 19.1. One turned into a fun crash with Columns manager and 8800 columns being selected to tag – likely fixed in 20 as of today, and likely to go into 19.1 after testing. Working today on Tahoe issues – building a shelf for Michael Hecht with Xcode 26 and trying to see if we can get buttons and some other things fixed at 20 – more to come on that.
- Hunter: Testing to identify the JMP Student Edition 19.0 installer issue on Mac. Ran some test cases on an Intel Mac for the JMP Student Edition Repair App that Michael H. and Jeff P. prepared for the affected users. Started testing with the updated Student Edition 19.0 Installer for Mac that Jim prepared yesterday. Met with Evan about the Share Graph and Share Table feature.
