What inspired this Wish List Request? Column formulas exist for many things, but not for the product of the entries in the column. This is a glaring omission. It is inacurrate (and unrealistic to expect a customer to) exponentiate summed logarithms to accomplish this, via
exp(col sum(log(:column))),
which (subject to rounding errors) is a workaround, but problematic when the column contains 0, although one could add a conditional to deal with this. One must also keep track of +/- to get the sign correct when you're using this with data on both sides of 0. something like (-1)^(col sum(:col < 0))*exp(col sum(log(:col))), which is a bit tedious.
Please describe the new or improved feature or solution you would like to see. col product(:column, <by variables>)
What would the value be to you and/or other users if this new feature is provided? Completeness. If ever there were a "hygiene" feature, this would be it. After adding this, we can't tell anyone, because they would be appalled to think we hadn't already had it.
Is this an external customer request? No.
Is there a competitive software package that has this feature or solution that we should be aware of? Pretty much every piece of software that allows column computations, should have this. It is as basic as Sum. Excel has it!
Will this impact a renewal, expansion, or adoption at a customer, and does this put an account at risk if we do not address this? Guess not. Maybe people use a running product with lags.
