19.0: installer validation • 19.0.1: security fixes only until 10/2 • 19.1: code review until 9/30 • 20.0: open in main • 20 EA1: ~Jan. 2025 (exact date TBD)
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 29, 2025!
JMP 19.0 installer validation efforts are proceeding this week. Many configurations have already been verified and testers continue to work towards completing the full matrix for all operating systems and products. Work on 19.0 documentation and localization deliverables is also proceeding, with assistance received from the JMP web team this week to resolve some redirect-related issues impacting interactive HTML Help – thank you to Roger Alford and Aaron Kennedy for investigative work on this topic!
As I mentioned in this morning’s call for updates email, we have a process for tracking minor new features that have already been tested in 20 and are planned for integration into the 19.1 track that revolves around adding the feature to the JMP 19.1 Features page.
- Before committing to a 19.1 feature, please secure your manager’s support.
- Then, please add a section on the 19.1 features page with links to any relevant Story/Epic items in Jira.
- Associated Jira issues need to be marked with Planned Version = 19.1 20.0 (since the feature will need to be pushed to and tested in both tracks).
- Please also fill out the Estimated Start Date field in your Jira issues, if work on your Story/epic has not yet started.
- Even small code changes can cause impact for downstream teams, so please fill out the table evaluating impact of 19.1 feature work – e.g., testing impact, addition or change of UI strings, impact to documentation or release notes, etc. Please consult your partners in other groups if you are not sure about the impact your code changes will have on them.
- Please keep in mind that feature freeze for JMP 19.1 is October 23, 2025 and we cannot accommodate any late feature work in this track due to the short timeframe of a maintenance release.
Of course, it’s important to remember that we’ll be starting up to JMP 20 EA program early next year, so it won’t be long till we can solicit feedback on JMP 20 new features. Existing EA customers will roll over into the JMP 20 EA program, but if you have encountered new customers that are willing to offer feedback on JMP 20 features, they can sign up for the program at jmp.com/earlyadopter.
Thanks to Evan McCorkle for presenting at this week’s JMP Dev meeting! If you missed it, you will definitely want to check out the recording here. Evan shared a number of case studies where he used his excellent telemetry explorer add-in with anonymously submitted JMP telemetry data to gain insight into user behavior. Evan made the important point that you have to interact with telemetry data to gain insight into customer behavior – much like we have conversations with users, we have to question and query to get answers. John Sall also commented on his own exploration of JMP telemetry data on usage – as well as how just working with these very large tables in JMP helped him identify bottlenecks in some processes.
Thanks to Shannon Leslie for sharing the following info!
August 2025 Atlassian tools tips & tricks: Disable AI term highlighting
In a recent change to Jira and Confluence, users can now disable the Atlassian AI term highlighting feature in their personal settings.
And have no fear! This feature can be reenabled in the future if you change your mind.
Instructions along with screenshots are documented here:

JMP Development Updates
Statistics
- Jianfeng: Added Clopper-Pearson Exact CI Interval Calculation Option in Distribution Platform JMP-10807 requested by users. However, I think this should be added to contingency platform as well. So I will keep working on this. Thanks!

- John Sall:
- The Profiler Optimizer had a serious bug when used for the second time when the predictor or profiler did not support multithreading - the first set of iterations worked fine, but when it started the other trips, they didn't get new random starting values. Although this can be serious, it should also be rare to have a non-multithreading predictor and more than one optimization and needing more than one trip/restart to find the optimum. A fix will be submitted for 19.0.3 (JMP-27767).
- Process Screening is now starting to support the Triage feature in JMP Live for JMP 20 (JMP-22018):

- Laura C-S: Finished research of ordered categorical data in SEM—wrote a document and shared with Chris to shed light on current obstacles and what will be needed for implementation. Ran several SEM analyses with industry data trying to find useful examples for the upcoming Tech Speaking presentation on SEM. Met with marketing and Christian Stopp again to discuss and plan SEM presentation. Provided step-by-step instructions to an SEM user for fitting a random-intercept cross-lagged panel model in version 18 (thankfully there’s a new shortcut for this in v19!).
- Annie: Practicing for and recording my 2 Discovery Austin talks. Fixing Jira tickets for CCB and integrating the fixes as they are verified.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Continued with a number of ongoing tasks from the past couple weeks: planning for 19.1 documentation updates; working with Jill to update/create JMP documentation style guide; reviewing JMP documentation’s usage of analytical terms so that we can have a list of terms that we use without relying on the Advanced Analytics word list going forward.
Stat Testing
- Mark: I assisted Jacob with triaging the outstanding Jira tickets for Easy DOE from JMP 19.0 cycle. I attended the initial meeting with SAS Legal to discuss patent ideas for Bayesian Optimization platform. I studied some intermediate fitting results for the Gaussian Process model used in the Bayesian Optimization platform in hopes of developing better targeted unit tests. I am still adjusting the epsilon value for approximate comparisons in the current unit test script of BO fitting results to avoid failures but still provide adequate testing. I continued my analysis of the discoloration of the stressed parts from additive manufacturing using images of the parts.
Life Sciences Updates
- Drew: Integrating Python DOCX table generation work into IQ/OQ reporting work. JMP Clinical 19.1/20.0 Jiras.
- Richard: Working on a report to summarize patient treatments over time.
Product Management and Product Marketing
- Dan V:
- Bryan F: I’m in the process of adding multiple choice style questions to the U-Study tool. Currently, freeform text inputs are supported. This tool is a generalization of what has been used during Discovery Summit JMP Labs and is meant to make it possible for any authorized user to create HTML based usability study content. This capability is being used in conjunction with AWS AppStream 2.0 to enable user studies with anyone with Internet access. Updated some JMP Clinical icons for 19.1 icons. Participated in design related discussions with members of the HTML5, JMP Live, and Core teams.
Technical Support and Engagement
- Wendy:
- One thing is clear… Students are back and using JMP Student Edition! The majority of these cases are related to Restricted Party Screening (RPS).

Development Operations
- Melanie: Process Management: Participated in a discussion about how to organize end-of-release tasks for DevOps. Beginning and ending a branch has a lot of moving pieces to keep track of and we don’t want to miss important steps. • Stringbot: Working with Myron to start Stringbot on main for 20.0 and on 19.1. Thanks to Myron and Nick for finding and testing a different way to handle perforce requests for assignments – we have hopes that future Stringbot runs will complete in under half an hour (maybe longer on main) rather than the traditional 3-5 hours. We should have Stringbot running on both branches next weekend, after some final testing. • More Process Management: Sent out the Feature Freeze reminder for 19.1 – yes, it is coming that quickly! • Yet More Process Management (it never ends): Discussed the timeframe for starting auto-integration tasks from main to 20.0 and 19.1 for documentation and localization projects. (Since they lag development, they are still finalizing 19.0.) • Atlassian: Turned off AI term highlighting in Jira and Confluence for myself. Hallelujah! • More Atlassian: Thanks to Howard, Krzysztof, and Shannon L for testing Atlassian’s service account for Jira – this will come in very handy in the future as a better way to manage group/service accounts whilst also saving Atlassian licenses. • R&D: Thanks to Evan for a great demo of Telemetry data. It’s always so great to use JMP to improve JMP!
- Bob: My JMP testing meeting for future version 20 EA processing. Rebuild of JMP Live 19.0.0 package for final candidate. High contrast graphic installer testing and updated version 20 installers to detect if user is in high contrast mode (JMP-27676). Work with Jim Borek and John Schroedl in JMPTOOL-1631 to update JMPInstallChecker location for version 20 installers.
- Myron:
- JMPTOOL-1734 – move SQL Server backups off SAS resources

Note from Shannon
In the US, we are off next Monday for the Labor Day holiday. This year, it falls on 9/1 – the earliest possible day it can be (it varies from 9/1-9/7 depending on the year). Many kids in local traditional calendar schools started back this week including my son Hunter who started 8th grade so it is starting to feel like fall! Whether it’s false fall or not, I’ll take it.
Hope you all enjoy the long weekend – apologies to those of you who are spending it at the beach and may be looking for warmer weather, but personally I’m hoping the cooler weather will stick around in the Raleigh area for the weekend!
