19.0: installer validation • 19.0.1: security fixes only until 10/2 • 19.1: Code Review until 9/30 • 20.0: open in main • 20 EA1: ~end of 2025, exact date TBD
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 22, 2025!
Congratulations go out this week to Caleb King, Joseph Morgan, Ryan Lekivetz, and collaborator Bradley Jones on the occasion of their newly issued patent! Interactive Tool for Specifying Factor Relationships in Design Structure was issued on 2025-08-19 as U.S. Patent No. 12,393,749 (found here on Issued Patents).
Thanks to everyone working on Jira issue triage this week! The list of items with Planned Version = 19.0 is significantly shorter on Friday than it was on Monday when Shannon Leslie sent out the reminder. Thank you for retrying test cases, closing out old items that are no longer needed, and updating planned versions (or removing them in some cases) so that we have a better idea of work planned for each track!
This week, most JMP 19.0 processes were disabled after the creation of our final installer candidates. However, DevOps is still creating numerous installers for various desktop products for 19.0.1, 19.1, and 20.0 each night. Those installers get put through their paces in automated processes running throughout the night and day and testers depend on those results to detect regressions quickly.
It’s important for JMP team members to be able to get the correct installers to test ongoing work while not disrupting ongoing processes writing to jmpsrv01. Therefore, please use the OneDrive sync that Bob Hickey created to get daily JMP/JMP Pro/JMP Clinical/JMP Student installers. Enabling OneDrive installer sync on your machine will copy the desired installations to your OneDrive account as soon as they are available – usually between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM Cary time.
If you must get an installer from jmpsrv01 for some reason, Bob notes to please remember to copy installer files from the server to your desktop and then install from your desktop copy. If you launch an installer file from a shared folder, and don't end/close it properly, you may accidentally lock the file on the server and prevent nightly processes from completing properly. (I enabled OneDrive sync several years ago and it’s super convenient. Thank you Bob for setting it up!)
Finally, thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash cases with crashes selected!

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Audrey: Installer testing for 19.0 has begun and is progressing nicely. Some issues have been identified that we will fix in future versions, but none so far are showstoppers for 19.0 desktop installers. JMP Live may yet push a security fix - a newly-reported vulnerability is being evaluated. I’m reviewing resumes and starting to conduct first-round interviews.
- Mandy: Worked on installer testing for 19.0. Practiced Discovery Americas 2025 talk a bit in preparation for recording next week. Did a little bit of fixing tests at 20, 19.1 and so forth now that auto integration is off – added a few new tests for changes made at 20.
- Hunter: JMP 19 final installer and authorization case testing. Testing with the JMP roaming account. JIRA verifications. Applied Tahoe Dev. Beta 7 to MDA692 and Macbeta2x86 and ran tests.
Web Testing – Cary
- Josh:
- Deployment & Testing: Deployed JMP Live machines for 19.0 installer testing. Currently running regression tests for both JMP and JMP Live 19.0, and evaluating new features in 19.5 and 20.0.
- AWS Optimization: Completed a major round of AWS machine resizing based on “Right Size” recommendations from AWS. This involved modifying ~25 machines to reduce costs. The process was complex, but the changes should lead to noticeable savings. I’ll continue monitoring for further optimization opportunities.
- Anna: Testing Xan's new Scripting Index examples with Lisa. Reported a number of issues for Graph Builder, Journals and a couple for HTML5. Verified Xan’s updates based on our feedback in JMP 20.0. Retested Mike Stickles' second pass at fix for Finland date/time formatting issue in JMP 20.0. Verified HTML5 and JMP Live fixes.
- Natalie: As of this week, all our supported release branches, 19.5/19.1/19.0 are producing clean HTML automation results with our nightly run. I am adding new test coverage for Control Charts with Fit to Window turned on. We are prepping for JMP Live 19.0 installer testing.
System/Host Testing-Beijing
Core
- Evan: Changes to copy/paste behavior for scripts. When copying a script from JMP and pasting into another app, the paste should be richer than before. For example, pasting a script into Outlook will get syntax highlighting and pasting a script into Jira or Teams will get a code block. This is regardless of how you copy the JMP script (script editor copy, LRT item, context menu item).
- Ernest: Auto recalc of linked Summary tables. Removed Save to Preferences feature.
- Xan: Scripting Index examples, Col Score() and Col Rank(), CCB axis granularity.
- Morgan: Continuing work on MLflow integration.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Helped finish work on a paper submission to a special issue of QREI on design of experiments. The paper is on the Design Fractals tool I developed shortly after I started at JMP. I also started work on bug fixes for 19.1 on the sample size explorers and continued looking into the reliability codebase.
Hosting and Interfaces
- Paul N:
- JMP-27686 - Updated macOS and Windows JMP 19.0.1, 19.1, 20 to Python 3.13.7
- JMP-27524 – Security update to Python 3.13.6 last week Thursday. JMP 19.0, 19.01, 19.1, 20.0
- JMP-27696 – Fixed an edge condition that was triggering a debug Assert().
- Tested Python 3.14rc2 in JMP 20. JMP builds and runs with Python 3.14 release candidate 2. Python will make initial 3.14 release in October. Testing now to ensure there are no surprises. JMP 20 is on 3.13 for now.
- Doing research on some bugs Snyk scanning suddenly is reporting even though the CVE is over 2 years old and never reported till now…. And reported against an old version of zlib (1.1.4) which we are long past.
- Working with Bryan code reviewing JMP-27669 – update of JMP’s embedded SQLite3 to version 3.50.4
- JMP-3444 Update SI with additional description details on the JSL Arc() function that were provided by Craige some time ago.
- Working on presentation next week for Tech Support on Python & R Integration in JMP 19, 19, and beyond.
Interactive HTML
- John Powell:
- Suppressed row operations in Best Performance mode (WEBJMP-10667).
- Made Ternary plots outside the Ternary platform render static and made unsupported scale type log messages more specific to improve telemetry (JMPHTML-13890).
- Integrated these and earlier bug fixes into 19.1
- Helped Mike Muhlada triage issues with redirects to localized versions of JMP’s home page and web based documentation (JMP-27717 JMP-27718, JMPWEB-2133) and spoke to Qiana about them.
- Discussed supporting triage of Process Screening warnings & alarms with Praveena, John Sall and several JMP Live team developers.
- Completed Q3 Check-in training.
- Attended training for new travel booking system.
- Attended training for the new procurement system.
- Mike Stickles: Completed fix for JMPHTML-14080 (Exported date format changes depending on Regional settings) and integrated into Main; fix passed testing. Planning to integrate into 19.1 on Monday. Currently working on JMPHTML-14898 (GB: Calculation of Std Dev | Std Error summary statistics for color role values incorrect), determined that the problem is a default format is being applied which should not be applied; trying to work out how to determine and specify the correct format in only the needed situations.
JMP Live
- Aurora: 19.1 - Small control chart triage fixes and tweaks. Talking about triage in process screening.
Statistics
- Jianfeng: Completed the work of adding new feature of multivariate normality test JMP-26678 in multivariate platform. Now I am moving on to add Clopper-Pearson Exact CI Interval Calculation Option in Distribution Platform JMP-10807.

- Elizabeth: Fixed a numeric bug for saved confidence interval formulas for generalized distributions with a 2nd parameter when a frequency variable is used (JMP-26568); waiting for testing to confirm before integrating into 19.1. Fixed a couple of display box-type issues with the new confusion matrices in GLMM that Fang found (incorrect logic statements on when to display them) JMP-27684 & JMP-27685. Researching tolerance interval calculations for mixed models; several methods proposed use MCMC algorithms, so trying to find more direct calculations.
- John Sall
- In Process Screening there is now an alarm indicator for out-of-spec points for normal processes (JMP-27628).
- In Process Screening with non-normal processes, if you have a limits table, then it can now display the Probability of Action along with Ppu or Ppl (JMP-27729).
- Exploratory work is underway for Process Screening to support the JMP/Live Triage feature like Control Chart Builder (JMP-22018).
- Laura C-S: Continue researching technical details of ordered categorical data in SEM. Met with marketing to discuss format and content of an upcoming Tech Speaking on SEM. Reviewed Ken Bollen’s slides for upcoming Stat Speaking on SEM.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Continued planning for 19.1 doc updates. Worked on finding a week for Oxygen training with documentation and localization teams. Various training meetings. Sent updated statistics platform guidelines out to Stat R&D team for review.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Adjusted the final epsilon values for the JMP 19.0 unit tests of the fitting parameters and metrics for the Gaussian Process model in the Bayesian Optimization platform when the fit was adequate. I will integrate the changes into JMP 19.1 and 20.0 when I continue developing this script. I worked with Jacob to triage all remaining Jira tickets from JMP 19.0. I am updating the script for the analysis of the photographs taken by Caleb to measure discoloration of stressed plastic parts for our additive manufacturing reliability study. I adjusted the clipping regions to the final geometry of the reference panels and the sample in the light box. Unfortunately, the references exhibited specular reflectance. We want only diffuse reflectance for our colorimetry measurements. We will photograph the references again so that there is no specular reflectance. I will automate the analysis to process entire folders at one time and build a data table with all the measurement data to be joined with the ALT DOE data table. I attended the training for the new travel booking system, Avenir.
- Tonya: Working on bug verification and rewriting some unit tests.
Technical Support and Engagement
- Gary:
- Technical Support continues working on a variety of projects and preparing for JMP 19. School is definitely back in session with the number of requests the Engagement team fielded from students creating a My JMP account and clearing their restrictive party screening blocks.
