19.0: final testing – 19.0.1: security fixes only -- 19.1: code review until Sep30 -- 20.0: open for pushes to main; 20 EA1: ~11/30/25
Welcome to the JMP Development Update for August 8, 2025!
Thanks to Xan Gregg for suggesting the above “ribbon” to summarize where we are in each ongoing release! As we have more tracks going at a time, I hope this will be a helpful way to quickly see the status of each one.
John Sall shared the following information about updates to the online scripting index discussed in recent dev updates and meetings. Many people have already been working to enhance JSL examples for numerous platforms in the 19.1 and 20 tracks.
The JSL Examples project to publish the Scripting Index to the web (https://jsl.jmp.com) will do its next extract based on the 19.1 build on August 15. If you have new ScriptItem “.example" work, please link your work to the epic JMP-27234, and get it integrated into 19.1 by August 15. Kristen Slappey, Evan McCorkle, and Matthew Gilmore make the extract and convert the data into web pages. This project is important for LLMs to learn how to compose JSL better.
Much appreciation to Nick Ruva for coordinating the conversion of JMP’s Perforce server to LDAP authentication this week! As previously announced by JMP security manager Travis Lapolla, this update is intended to streamline access management and enhance JMP’s security posture. I appreciate the early testers who logged in last weekend for a short trial run - special thanks to Jim Borek, Dave Barbour and John Sall for reporting issues they noticed, and to Nick and Jim for working to answer questions, research and resolve issues as the migration progressed. If you encounter any lingering issues that you think are related to the LDAP transition, please contact Nick to detail your issue so he can help investigate.
Hope you all were able to attend one or more of our end of summer intern presentations over the past few weeks! This week, we saw virtual demos from Toni McCoy, Bradley Bowen, Mateo Collado, Hunter Sill, Elikem Dodor, Ashley Fowler, Molena Huynh, Jamie Young, Justin Walters, Victoria Uchman, and Simran Ajwani. If you missed the meetings, you can find them here: intern session 4 and intern session 5. Links to these and other recent recordings are also found here.
It was great to connect with some of our local interns at the Intern Expo on Wednesday in Building C! I was sorry it was not in A this year given the rain, but those of us who braved the walk to C with our umbrellas found a busy room of poster presenters and attendees. I had a chance to chat with some of the the interns and even spotted our JMP celebrity interviewer Cameron with her mom Allison Hines! You can check out a final round of fun antics with the interns at that event.
Thanks to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash cases with crashes selected!

JMP Development Updates
Development Operations
- Nick: Please let me know if you see any lingering weirdness from Perforce that you think might be related to the LDAP transition and I will be glad to help troubleshoot! FYI that our Snyk scan will also be updated next week. I'm working with Travis to confirm the versions of third-party packages in versions 18.x-20 in preparation for moving to a manifest-based package manager that I wrote to better serve our security scans.
- Jim:
- Thanks to Nick Ruva for all the planning, executing, and supporting of the Perforce LDAP migration!
- Spent a good amount of time on JMPTEST-1819, getting ODBC drivers installed and configured on mac OS for JMP 19.0, 19.1 and 20.0
- Created an ASAN build on mac OS for JMP 20, ran the UT suite, and reported JIRAs for new issues
- Created a Debug build on WinOS for JMP 20, ran the UT suite; have not reported JIRAs for new issues yet
- Worked with CIS to restage (BeyondTrust change) the Sales Engineering mac OS machine that had administrator privileges removed
- Working with CIS to backtrack a BeyondTrust change that removed JMPBLDR’s administrator privileges on the JMP 19.1 Sonoma testing machine
- Started making changes to WinOS build scripts for JMP 20
- Perforce support.
- Melanie:
- Documentation Processes: I got the automated image checker going again - it had broken after a Python update a while ago (). I also updated email settings, fixed an updated book name, and added a couple of books that were missing from the checks (JMPTOOL-1728) Thanks to Trish who noticed the job wasn't running correctly. • Reset JMPWRITER perforce password and updated the credentials in Jenkins. • Answered some FrameMaker and screenshot scripting questions for Trish.
- DevOps Processes: Worked on calling the UT Log Capture script from Jenkins. • Investigated question from SAS about backups on a server about to migrate to a new storage array - bumped the priority on this item to migrate to JMP storage before that happens (late September). [JMPTOOL-1734] • Investigated and contributed my 2 cents to the Process Screening problem when publishing to JMP Live for 19.0. [JMPHTML-14905] • Started planning for setting up and running Stringbot on main (20.0) and 19.1 in the next couple of weeks. • Helped a very tiny amount with perforce passwords. Huge thanks to Nick Ruva for a very clean switchover for a complicated process!
- Finally, thanks to Jim Borek and Nick Ruva who have gotten a LOT of unit test streams running during the last few weeks to cover 19.0.1, 19.1, and 20.0. Here's the overall status. There's just a couple of ornery machines they're still wrangling with. These graphs (and a lot more) are posted on jmplivedaily: DevOps Reports | JMP Live

Reviewed crash scores table for short uninformative stacks and in the process found a few mystery crashes to investigate. Looked into some 18.X and EA crashes reported by internal users and through JMP TS. Special thanks to Dan Schikore and John Schroedl for help with crash investigations this week!
Localization
- Allison: Prepared and sent out 19.0 GPO production kits to linguists for localization; prepared and sent out DJ SharedTextInsets production kits to vendors; went through the 19.0 Big Books test kits in memoQ to run pre-translations using the TMs that we applied changes to to reflect English source edits; and validated localized JMP Live Public screenshots.

DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Finalized the regression modeling set up for my shape analysis add-in. I’ve also been working on tests for our 3d printing project. I realized early on that I am clearly not an engineer, given my disastrous attempts at trying to do some strength testing on these clips. I have since decided to outsource that task to Ryan, who is much more well suited for it. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes: On the other hand, heat testing has gone well! It’s become very clear how each type of material we used reacts to the heat, with some being much more resistant than others.
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl: Microsoft has provided a workaround to the sparse matrix multiplication performance regression and a fix has been pushed to 19.1 and 20.0. Thanks to Jacob Rhyne for testing the change while away at JSM! Discussion and reviews of ongoing clipping work. Started on related work related to using the OS share sheet. Interactive HTML
- Mike Stickles: Currently working on JMPHTML-14080 (Exported date format changes depending on Regional settings), have a fix ready but am doing extra testing since there are many combinations of formatting that could be affected. Also migrated the fix for JMPHTML-14740 (Bars for first Group are not correct) into the 19.1 branch.

Note from Shannon
Thanks to Annie Dudley for sharing this beautiful picture! I think we all need to see some blue skies after the rainy week it’s been in Cary… :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Annie says, “Here’s a photo of me and my son Arthur while we were on a research expedition through Earthwatch 2 weeks ago in Andorra.” Annie and Arthur were research volunteers with an Earthwatch group expedition. You can read more about the Earthwatch nonprofit organization here including opportunities to participate in similar trips.
Have a great weekend!
