Welcome to the JMP Development Update for July 25, 2025!
First, a special announcement from Audrey…
Please help me congratulate Hunter Weaver on 30 years with SAS and JMP!

Hunter joined SAS on August 1, 1995. Previously, he worked at the NCDOT where he was using SAS to analyze data, create reports, and generally helping with PC support. He first joined the QA group at SAS doing client/server testing for SAS/SHARE, SAS/CONNECT and SAS/ACCESS.
SAS/ACCESS to ODBC and PC Files would become a very big deal while Hunter was there, allowing SAS to import almost any file type, and would go on to have big revenue success. Hunter also spent some time testing for the Business Intelligence products, but then went back to the ACCESS group, testing Enterprise Guide and the Add-in to Microsoft Office for 8.5 years as part of the BIRD group.
In December 2014, Hunter decided to make a change and joined JMP Testing just before the release of JMP 12.0. He has been a key member of the team ever since. In more than 10 years with JMP, he is now working on his 9th major JMP release, with many maintenance releases in between. He was a major contributor to JMP Projects and their big rewrite in the JMP 13-14 timeframe. Hunter has also been our host guru, keeping up with changes for both Mac and Windows. MacOS in particular has given us some surprises along the way (my favorite was the inverted sticky titles
– and Shannon’s least favorite was the “green button” El Capitan crash). Hunter, along with Michael Hecht, Chris Humphrey, and Paul Nelson have perfected the system of acquiring and testing developer betas from Apple, which has been important in identifying host-related bugs early. Since JMP 18, Hunter has been our authorization expert and has worked closely with Daniel Powell on that effort.
We appreciate Hunter a great deal. He quietly takes care of everything and does a really stellar job with his areas. He’s also really fun to talk to, always has interesting stories, and helps glue my team together. Hunter, thank you for all you do. Congratulations on this milestone!
I would like to second this congratulations, Hunter, and thanks so much for all you do in so many important areas that are of critical importance to the quality of the JMP user experience!
Now back to regularly scheduled development news…
A reminder for JMP Perforce users – please review the email from Travis Lapolla sent on 7/30 that communicates the details of JMP’s transition to using LDAP for Perforce logins. Service accounts will continue to use existing non-LDAP passwords. Please contact Travis Lapolla and Nick Ruva with any questions. Nick will be coordinating an early test of the LDAP transition this weekend as detailed in an email he sent Thursday afternoon.
We’re swiftly heading towards JMP 19.0 Security Freeze on 8/15/25 and JMP QA teams will kick off installer validation efforts soon after that. JMP documentation and localization teams have been working through final issues impacting handoffs and help builds for JMP interactive HTML, JMP Live/JMP Public, and JMP. JMP’s “big books” contain the content that gets compiled into both the web-based JMP Help and also into PDFs released in add-in form on the JMP marketplace for offline use. Thank you to doc, QA and L10N for finding, triaging and resolving problems in the process! We are now moving into the next phase where new and changed content will be sent out by the L10N team to translators and later to expert reviewers in preparation for release in JMP 19.2.
JMP documentation teams have also been working with JMP marketing to review the New in JMP page that will showcase JMP 19 additions and enhancements. Those of you who have been with JMP for a while will remember that we used to have both a PDF-based New Features document and a separate New in JMP page on jmp.com, representing considerable (but largely separate efforts) by the doc and PM/marketing teams to highlight new work. Qiana Eaglin and Michael Crotty have worked with product marketing, product management and marketing to streamline the process so that new features are presented in a single location online. (Older versions of the page are tagged and archived on jmp.com)
Thanks to all who attended the regularly scheduled and special dev sessions we’ve been having in recent weeks! Between demos, intern talks and external speakers, we’ve had many chances to gather as a group and learn together. Here are this week’s links, and we’ll conclude the intern series with two sessions next week:
- Monday, Dan Valente and Russ Wolfinger presented on JMP Assistant and a Visual Studio code extension with a pitch to internal people interested in trying out these tools under development
- Wednesday, DOE and Reliability interns Kexie Xie and Simin Zheng presented their research and summer work
- Thursday, we heard from several additional JMP interns – Aiden Maguire (academic team), Yiran Song (JMP Clinical), Safiya Sirota (statistical documentation, Ryan Kuang (sales support), and Sam Blashill (interactive HTML)
- Thursday evening, the JMP Q2 update was made available through this post on InsideJMP. Great job by all the presenters (including development’s own John Sall, David White and Kasia Dobrzycka), congrats to JMP on great H1 results, and a big congratulations also to JMP R&D team member Tonya Mauldin who was honored with a JMP Spotlight award!
Speaking of Tonya, here are this week’s beta/crash cases with crashes selected:

JMP Development Updates
Statistics
- John Sall:
- In the last several weeks, I have worked on improving the JSL examples in Categorical, Fit Least Squares, Fit Stepwise, Response Screening, Fit Responses Screening, and Process Screening. Also I have encouraged others to improve the JSL “constructor” examples for platforms that have a diversity of uses. All this is toward improving the next iteration of jsl.jmp.com , which I hope will be re-extracted in the next few weeks from 19.1. Other developers may consider working on this project, in which case, please connect Jira issues tracking it to the epic JMP-27234.
- You might also consider watching the impressive SAS Copilot demo, the extended version is https//video.na.sas.com/assets/98063.
- Laura C-S: Fixed a couple of bugs with improper nesting of options in the scripting index, also added more examples to those options. Met with Chris Gotwalt to discuss categorical data in SEM. Finished last touches to JSM presentation—it took a while to reduce it to the allotted time. Met with Haley to rehearse presentations and provide/receive feedback. Also received useful feedback from Clay Barker.
- Elizabeth: Finally pushed work for the nominal multinomial to GLMM (JMP-19498). Added further JSL examples for Mixed (JMP-27362) and GLMM (JMP-27363) to the scripting index (currently in 20; working on 19.1 integration).
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Preparing to attend JSM next week. Reviewed draft of New In JMP webpage for 19.0 new features. Started work on 19.1 doc updates. Helped troubleshoot some issues with the 19.0 doc handoff and production process.
Stat Testing
- Mark: I met with Monique to discuss stability analysis for customer engagement. I brainstormed approaches to test BO model fitting when there is no Oracle with Jacob. I am investigating run-to-run instability of model fitting results for BO. I reviewed the release notes for all 9 EA versions with Jacob to identify testing areas outside of DOE that might impact DOE platforms. I brainstormed ideas for a tutorial this Fall about simulating responses in Easy DOE and Custom DOE for Gail.
- Tonya: Working on bug verification, unit test cleanup, and doc review.
Life Sciences Updates
- Richard: Here are some network plots for a bigger data set: Nicardipine with 902 patients and 196 treatment emergent adverse events.

- Filtered to 3 classes. Redistributes around the circle

- Locked scales can be turned off to more readily fill the space.

Technical Support and Engagement
- Wendy:
- Tech Support is preparing for JMP 19 support and updating articles. Engagement is preparing to support email addresses for the AP region in Salesforce over the next few weeks.
- Below are the usual graphs for case volume as well as topics for both Tech Support and Engagement. Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by Support for the last 14 days.

- updated generic userid Perforce credentials for upcoming LDAP changes
- Testing/debugging Jenkins jobs for loading data from unit test output (text) files to new PostGreSQL instance in AWS (JMPTOOL-1743)
- Bob: Create 19.0.0 signoff pages. Updated to InstallShield 2025 on local and build PCs. Begin research in to how, if possible, new version of InstallShield can help with JMP.
- Melanie: Spent most of my week troubleshooting various jobs related to doc and L10 processes, reviewing branching task items, answering questions, and fixing things.
- Shannon C: Weekly technical meetings with various DevOps team members and small groups. Investigated some anonymous crashes recently reported in 18.2.1, 18.2.2 and 19.0. Updated JMP dev recordings page with recent meeting links and downloaded development sessions to the shared folder referenced on the page. I think we had a record number of dev sessions this week, plus the sales update – lots of knowledge sharing! :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes: Thanks to all who helped host and to the presenters for contributing and sharing your work.
Localization
- Allison: This week I finished going through the 19.0 Bigbooks test kits to identify some of the global style changes to prepare for localization; delivered and pushed Marketplace translations; investigated localized screenshot issues for JMP Live Help; processed Keyboard Shortcuts translations and handed off to Ying for DTP work; validated vendor invoice and submitted for payment processing, and looked into issues related to building HTML5 Help and JMP Live Help.
- Krzysztof: Updating Books TMs to mitigate the impact on pre-translation from global style changes introduced to English strings for 19.0. Helping with building HTML5 localized output (bug fixes, process enhancements, tune-ups of jobs). Updating Jenkins and l10n workflow scripts for jmploc account access to P4 with password.
- Sohail: Added functionality for new models, fixed bug with copy script for jmptransweb, and setting up SSH access for new machine.

- Susan C: Sent JMP Live/Public to test. Fixing issues with the HTML5 & JMP Live help. Reviewed the content for JMP Live on Landra’s New in JMP page.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Nick H: Fixed an issue where Exclude Known Issues in the Unit Test GUI was not working with JMPCLINICAL issues. Worked to get POST functionality working on the new JMP Dashboard server in AWS. Renewed an old automation script to get list of failures that had Jira tags for users who have failing unit tests – this is useful so testers can add 20.0 to the affected version of relevant Jiras. Lastly, I added a number of new unit tests for JMP 19 enhancements and bug fixes.
- Hunter: Tested several configurations for a “Reset file associations” fix in JMP-17006. Opened JMP-27396 for an intermittent file permissions error on the two Tahoe Dev. Beta 4 Macs that occurs with repeated data table updates when running the sample data table script tests. Investigated an issue reported by Mike Wu with ODBC connections failing on one of the Tahoe Macs (MDA692) when connecting to MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL on jmpdev2. JIRA verifications.
- Mandy: Answering a few TS tracks as they filter in, slowly now for 19; working on my paper/talk for Discovery and reporting a few JIRA’s as I find them; Waiting a bit on test changes for MAIN until after August 18th, so I do not have the auto integration get me in JMP 19 data – since I will need that data to stay as it is for installer testing, etc.
- Audrey: JMP 19 testing and preparing for end-of-release testing. finalizing some branching tasks for testing jobs for 19.1, 19.0.1, 20. Reviewing VMware machines with Beijing team.
Web Testing – Cary
- Anna: Quickly verifying JMP 20.0 fixes in nightly images so that developers can push changes to 19.1 while work is fresh in their minds. Reported work items for:
- Scatterplot 3D: request from user that we support panning of axes
- Supporting image from labelled image column in tooltips for several GB chart types
- Tooltip for labelled multiple response column shows incorrect data values

JMP Marketplace
- Kristen: We’ve begun testing existing staff extensions on the latest available version of JMP 19 to give extension owners time to update their extensions before the JMP 19 launch date. Thank you to the extension owners for being so responsive to the emails and Jira bugs we’ve sent out so far during this testing process. We’ve created a JMP Live report to track our progress on marketplace staff extensions JMP max version compatibility.
Note from Shannon
(Apologies to everyone who’s already been subjected to my kid pictures on Wednesday, but I had to share! Feel free to skip ahead if you are not interested in cosplay.) :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Now that GalaxyCon Raleigh weekend has come and gone for my daughter Hannah Mae, we’re in the nowhere-near-as-fun phase of preparing to send her back to college on 8/15/25. It’s been her summer creative project to buy, thrift, sew and style various outfits and wigs from games and shows she enjoys. She also planned a group cosplay with friends that appeared in a runway show at the con. I’ve moved into a largely advisory and emotional support role with the cosplay now that she has experience working at the Western Carolina costume shop and has acquired her own sewing machine - but I did help with a skirt zipper, some snaps, and a mini zipper pouch.
She had a great time at the con, and I’m sure there are some JMP people out there who attended among the 50k people (!) who passed through the Raleigh convention center from last Thursday through Sunday to connect with their favorite fandoms. In addition to her college friends from this area, Mae’s met many local high school and college kids from the area this way. I didn’t go this year but I got to live vicariously through her many Instagram posts.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
