The function is so hidden and undocumented that it may be deleted in a future version of JMP.
Re: Paste multiple column namesWow, that's cool, I've wanted that many times. Thanks for the tip!
Re: Paste multiple column namesWow. Thank you for sharing
Re: Paste multiple column namesNow that I know about this, I use it all the time -- copy the column headers out to a text document, change them, then paste them back in. So handy! I *really* hope this feature stays in JMP 19!
Re: Paste multiple column namesDid you know?
copy/paste via CTRL+C / CTRL-V also works for Value Labels
edit:
in JMP 19, pasting value labels doesn't work via CTRL+V, but via paste from the right click context menu:

Re: Paste multiple column namesWhat are you copying from in this case? Tab-delimited text file perhaps?
Re: Paste multiple column names Tab-delimited text works.
easiest: get it from a JMP or Excel data table - via CTRL-C.
Then select the empty list box and Press CTRL+V
Re: Paste multiple column namesI kind of doubt they would get rid of this function, as it is part of the usefulness of the column pane. Another way I use this is to first select whatever rows I need (either to copy / paste, or maybe tables->subset a subset of rows and columns), and then use the column filter at the top of column pane to filter on and select my subset of columns. Now that my rows and columns are selected, I then hit 'tab' twice to bring focus over to the data pane. Then I can hit ctrl+C (copy data) or ctrl+shift+C (copy data with column names) and then paste them wherever they are going. Or tables->subset if using that feature.
People may not be aware so I'll post the corresponding paste functions:
If pasting to Excel, simple ctrl+V (or regular paste) will work regardless of whether you have previously copied only data or data + columns.
If pasting to a JMP table, ctrl+V will paste the data. ctrl+shift+V will paste the data+column names. Choose based on how you copied the data. It's straightforward if you are pasting into a new / empty table. If you are pasting into a table and have already selected columns and rows in the destination table of where you want the pasted data to go... well, just make sure your row / column selections are 100% correct, and check it after.
Re: Paste multiple column namesusing Tab
nice! - more robust than "clicking somewhere in the data grid"
- and sounds safe against changes in new versions.
-> added to CTRL/Alt/Shift + click/select/double click/right click
Re: Paste multiple column namesAgreed, and more importantly for the use described above, you don't lose the column and row selections when you tab from pane to pane. If you click in the data grid (after working in the column pane) on to a cell or column header you've lost your previous selection.
Re: Paste multiple column namesAnother helpful secret: Restore data-grid behavior: Cmd-Opt-Click (or Ctrl-Alt-Click) to select intersections of rows

Re: Paste multiple column namesMatch count not showing in the Join Table Preview in JMP 19
Re: Paste multiple column namesThanks!
Re: Paste multiple column names replacing column names via CTRL+V doesn't work anymore in JMP19
.... but there is a workaround:
a) select columns to rename
b) copy new column names to clipboard
c) Recode Column Names- Only selected columns
d) "Paste Multiple"
JMP19 (c+d): 7 mouse clicks - instead of CTRL+V in JMP18
Re: Paste multiple column namesAs an alternative, you can link a script to a Keystroke - or run it via the main menu (with 2-3 mouse clicks):

Re: Paste multiple column namesAnother hidden functionality: edit table scripts by double click
JMP18:
- in the Table Scripts menu, one can double click on a script to open end edit the script
- to change the name of the script, select it and click again
this is similar to Windows Explorer [sorry, difficult to distinguish Click and double click in the video - just try on your own ...]
JMP 19:
- click + click again: not working anymore
- double click: change the name of the script
- edit the script: only accessible via right click menu : (
I just asked JMP support [TS- ? ] if the change was intentional ...
Re: Paste multiple column namesAnother removed function:
Are Column formulas being evaluated?
check the status bar of the window in front - when JMP is finished, it says : evaluations done
in JMP19, such calculations are secret, JMP is saying "evaluations done" - but evaluations are running in the background.
With a little trick, you can actually get JMP to reveal its secret recalculations:
dt = Current Data Table();
cols = dt << get column references();
Eval(
Eval Expr(
New Column( "recalc",
Formula(
If( Row() == 1,
Sum(
Transform Each( {col}, Expr( Name Expr( cols ) ),
Is Missing( col[Row()] )
)
);
Caption( "recalc" );
Wait( 0 );
)
)
)
)
);

Re: Paste multiple column namesBeen using it a lot e.g. for copying coumn names between tables. Would hate to miss it in JMP 19!
Re: Paste multiple column namesthis feature will be back in v19.1:

Restore data-grid behavior: Pasting onto column names to rename them
don't know about the others ...
Re: Paste multiple column namesJMP 19.1 is available now - the updates:
I added options for "order by" in Graph Builder to the Tiny Traps in Jmp and JSL .
For the missing features, please follow the link to the Wish List and vote.
I hope they will come back in JMP19.2 ...
Re: Paste multiple column namesOn the other hand, one could even hide the scripts - they look quite disturbing to new users.
And after some iterations they pile up.
Maybe: just show them if the user presses Shift + CTRL and clicks in the former script area?
Re: Paste multiple column namesdue to different color reception, it's difficult to choose colors in the GUI that satisfy all uses:
A way to to make the toolbar "equally" "useful" for all users: Grayscale.

additional benefit: even users with an old b/w monitor will have the same experience.
another feature: user defined icons will stand out by their color.
Re: Paste multiple column namesI just detected the new rendering modes in xkcd - they could inspire even more creative versions of new toolbar designs.
If you go for Grayscale - Dorian Greyscale is my favorite one! I hope Hacker mode won't make it into JMP 20.
