Welcome to the JMP Development Update for July 11, 2025.
JMP Development has entered a new era, the JMP 20 era, with major branching events happening this week after Code Freeze for JMP 19.0. Jim has announced that main is now auto-integrating into the JMP 20 branch, and I’ve started seeing pushes happening there as work for the next release of JMP is already starting. The JMP 19.1 branch is also available now for continued work and bug fixes in the 19 track. Daily builds and installers are available for both of those versions – thank you Jim Borek and Bob Hickey for your work to make this happen as we all rely on them. Jim and others continue to work on related tasks such as getting our nightly JSL test suites up and running, and branching JMP 19.0.1.
Big congratulations are owed to the DOE team for being awarded two additional patents! Congratulations to Peng Liu, Caleb King, Ryan Lekivetz, Rajneesh Rajneesh, and Jacob Rhyne for this accomplishment. The details of both patents are available in this collection of Issued Patents to SAS and JMP staff.
- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has indicated it issued your patent, entitled Systems, Methods, and Graphical User Interfaces for Adaptive Design Exploration and Model Management on 2025-07-01 as U.S. Patent No. 12,346,541.

Thanks to Ryan Lekivetz for organizing a series of R&D Seminars. This week we heard from Dr. Jennifer Van Mullekom (VA Tech) about The ABC’s of Effective Communication in Statistical Collaboration Description. She gave some very helpful and practical advice for communicating key statistical analyses to non-statisticians. If you missed it, the recording can be viewed at this link. I highly recommend it especially if you are someone who gives technical talks at JMP Discovery or elsewhere.
I’d like to give a friendly reminder to everyone that the ACT-Now Compliance Training is due by Friday, July 18th. All employees need to take it. The link to your training will be in a notification a couple of weeks ago – take the time to go through it since it is required for all of us.
Thanks to Shannon Leslie for sharing some highlights about change you may notice in our Atlassian products.

- Sara Doudt:
Product Launch Preview Campaign Now Available
As part of the launch this fall, we are introducing a preview campaign for customers and prospects who are interested in the next version, as a path for them to sign up and be one of the first to get a sneak peek into what is coming in JMP before the actual release date.
Learn more about how you can help support this campaign.
- Bryan F: This week I continued to develop a usability report for the JMP Store. The week prior Sarah Sylvestre acted in the role of a user in a usability study. Sarah and I also prioritized the items that were identified. I also developed some planning documents for refreshing JMP icons and improving accessibility. I provided some feedback to Ernest regarding nesting tags within the columns panel. Finally, I updated some splash screens for John Schroedl so that the copyright information can be updated programmatically
Development Operations
- Bob: Prepare installer scripts for 19.1 and 20.0 Windows releases. Test and tweak new installer scripts so that we now have a full set of Windows installers for JMP 19.1 and JMP 20.0 (only 620 days until version 20 release). Installer validation for 18.2.2.
- Jim: Plan/set up Mac and Win build machines for 19.x.x and 20.0.0. Coordinated with Audrey (THANKS!) to set up unit test machines for 19.1.0, 19.0.1 and 20.0.0. Participated in a (false alarm) fire drill early last week :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:. Integrated many, many, many, many, many changelists to 19.0.0 and 19.1.0. Applied macOS Tahoe updates to multiple unit test machines. Created final image candidates on Mac and Win for all JMP 18.2.2 products; disabled all related nightly processes. Perforce support.
- Melanie: Catching up after 2 weeks off (and completely offline wrt work). Rural Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York are lovely places.19.0: Last JSL Conflicts for localized PortableUI strings. Only 2 need to be fixed. 19.0 strings have been very clean with respect to conflicts through all 3 handoffs. Thanks to Allison Liang for coordinating this project! Thanks to Jim Borek for getting updated string files integrated into 19.0 and 19.1 (and all the other integrations he's done while also creating and launching 3 new branches)! Helped Localization and Documentation get a clean Discovering JMP handoff. I enjoyed the R&D Seminar with Dr. Jennifer Van Mullekom - great presentation. Thanks to Ryan Lekivetz for setting that up! Just in time for beginning to write my presentation for Discovery Summit in Austin.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Worked on answering a few TS tracks, request for things that mostly will need to be added in 19.1 or 20; Finished up verifying a few Tabulate fixes Andrew put in and added a few test cases to try and cover those; Opened this scrolling issue from John JMP-27165 and got the fix approved and in, testing that and requested a few other folks try and grab the 19 install and check out scrolling in the data table; began working on DS paper and data preparation – for 19.0; tried an install of JMP 20 on Mac today and found an authorization issue and chatted with Daniel Powell – he was aware so all should be okay now.
- Hunter: JMP 18.2.2 final installer validation on Mac and Windows with various authorization cases. Installed the Mac Tahoe Developer Beta 3 on MDA692 (M1 mini in lab) and set up an old (but new to us) Intel MacBook Pro named Macbeta2x86 that will be used for host testing Tahoe on Intel. Investigated some test failures on Macbeta2x86 that appeared to be related to dropped wi-fi connections what were resolved by using a network cable. Met with Bob to demonstrate an issue where JMP 19 EA 9 would not uninstall on Windows 11 that he was able to resolve. Investigated one JMP 19 EA 9 case.
- Audrey: 18.2.2 testing, reviewing 19.0 issues and requests, verifications of 19.0 issues. Had a fun outing to see the Durham Bulls with some of our interns on Thursday evening.

Thank you to John Sall for sharing the results of the 110th Cartoon Caption Contest from the Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education (CAUSE). The contest occurs monthly, and July’s contest is ongoing right now if you’d like to enter. June’s contest image is shown here, with the winning caption and runners up below.

June’s winning caption:
“In assessing whether their workout plan led to significant gains, the gym was advised to use a one-sided test.”
- Steve Wang from Swarthmore College. Steve’s caption can be used to discuss the difference between one- and two-sided tests (and why the gym in the cartoon might choose the former).
Honorable mentions:
“When your sample is biased, your gains are too.”
- Nayab Ali, a student at University of Texas at San Antonio. Illustrates the problems of biased sampling such as drawing data from an unusual sampling frame.
“Lefty’s Gym promised gains, but they didn’t say the distribution would be so right-skewed!”
- Chantelle Estabillo, a student at MiraCosta College. Discussion of the meaning of skewness in statistics and how it differs from usage in everyday speech.
“Not the best place for a matched pair design.”
- Anonymous. Discusses how matched pair designs that rely on bodily symmetry should still be randomized across subjects.
