Confidence Interval for Variance Calculator

Hi all,

a customer asked me about such a feature in JMP (because sitting in a training where the instructor said JMP cannot but Minitab can...).

The question is about summarized data, and in the sample scripts we do have a CI calculator for two variances, but not for one.

Does anybody know if there is also a calculator around for a single variance?

Hi @Florian_Vogt.The sample scripts do not include a calculator for the confidence interval on a single variance.

Here is some context that some may not know: The calculators in the sample scripts were developed by the Academic team to support teaching undergraduate introductory statistics courses. Traditional introductory stats textbooks include problems that require calculating basic confidence intervals or hypothesis tests from summary statistics, and these calculators were created so that students could solve those problems without leaving JMP. I wasn't around when the calculators were developed, but I surmise that the confidence interval on the variance calculator wasn't developed because that topic is not commonly taught, at least compared to the confidence interval on variance ratios (or confidence interval on the mean or proportion).
