Pride Month, celebrated each June, honors the LGBTQ+ community and commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City, a pivotal event in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. It serves as both a celebration of identity and a call for continued progress toward equality and inclusion.
The JMP D&I Action Team cordially invites you to join us in celebrating Pride Month. We will be hosting an in-person lunch-n-learn with Alice Drozdiak on Wednesday, June 25, from noon to 1 p.m. in A4111. The subject of Alice’s discussion will be “Gender Diversity, Neurodiversity, and Queerness”.
If you're unable to join in person, you can use this link to join the meeting.
Alice is a social worker who graduated with a master’s degree in social work and public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They practice in Durham and specialize in therapy for trans/queer clients, survivors of violence, complex trauma, personality disorders, and dissociative disorders (DID, etc), and neurodivergent clients (ADHD, autism, etc). They will be discussing the following topics:
- Intro to gender diversity, neurodiversity, and intersectionality
- Overview of research into the overlap of gender diversity and neurodiversity
- Exploration of "neuroqueer" (neurotype and gender being overlapping processes)
- Other marginalizations that impact neurotype and gender
- Q&A and Resources
