Welcome to the JMP Development Update for June 13, 2025!
Thanks to JMP QA teams in Cary and Beijing for vetting our final set of JMP 19 early adopter installers! Audrey has signed off on the JMP 19 EA9 for JMP, JMP Pro and JMP Clinical and Josh expects to sign off on JMP Live early next week. The JMP Live EA is being shared with IDEXX, an enthusiastic long-time customer that recently hosted JMP team members for a visit. IDEXX is a biotechnology company that develops pet health diagnostic tools as well as software for vet practices.
With JMP 19 approval mode starting today at 5 pm, please continue triaging your Jira issues and removing 19.0 from Planned Version unless you are planning to ask for approval for a late fix. As you triage, please label items specifically as planned for 20.0 or planned for 19.1 and 20.0. Otherwise, you can remove the planned version if it’s not clear when an item will be addressed.
As a reminder, JMP no longer batch updates issues as we move from version to version. Shannon L and I will be reviewing the list of remaining items tagged as Planned Version = 19.0 regularly so feel free to contact one of us if you need help with a batch update (like removing 19 from planned version values) after you have already gone through all your items and triaged items to later specific tracks.
Going into the maintenance phase of the 19 cycle, we will be creating monthly dot-dot releases, and the majority of these will only include third party library updates to resolve security issues identified by code scans. With such a short timeframe for these monthly releases, we will generally not be able to accommodate any functional bug fixes.
The only exception will be in X.X.3 releases, where showstopper level fixes championed by tech support, customer care or product management and also approved by the relevant testing manager and Travis Lapolla (our security manager) will be able to be evaluated for possible inclusion. The expectation is that any showstopper level issue considered for an X.X.3 release will first be fixed in 20, then integrated into 19.1 received prior to requesting approvals and integration to X.X.3.
We will be using a Jira-based process for X.X.3 bug fix approval and integration requiring 1) TS/Customer Care/Product management sponsorship, 2) approval from the relevant testing manager and 3) approval from security (Travis). We will continue using the current approval process for the end of XX.0 feature cycles and dot/maintenance releases.
Thanks to Elizabeth Claassen for presenting at this week’s JMP Dev meeting with an introduction about motivating customer requests from SE Mike Anderson! Elizabeth presented her recent work on mixed model stability for JMP 19. If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here.
I appreciate Shannon Leslie reviewing the June 9, 2025 product changes for Atlassian products and summarizing them below!
On June 9, Atlassian rolled out changes to our Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket Cloud sites. A list of relevant changes along with highlighted details and documentation can be found here.
The changes include:
- Sort data in Confluence databases using multiple fields
- Select and drag multiple elements in the Confluence editor
- There's a new toolbar to complete bulk actions within the issue navigator
- New Jira navigation - rolling out starting July 7
- And more!
Contact Shannon Leslie or any of the other JMP Atlassian admins with questions. Also check out our JMP Atlassian Q&A Teams channel, where this and other Atlassian information will continue to be shared.

JMP Development Updates
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl: Fixed drag scrolling and hit-testing in tree control. Splash screen updated with new image and de-emphasized version # in text sizing. Added text focus option which can allow the edit box to transition from single-line to multiple-line if multiple lines are pasted. Discussions and reviews with Dan S. regarding his dark mode capture work and a Clinical crash investigation. Making more progress on Windows ARM build: calling external DLLs is working and I was able use an HDF5 library created by vcpkg. The "real" HDF5 library will be one we build in-house. Helped some folks having Visual Studio issues.
- Will: Working on MATLAB Bootstrapping and getting the correct version of the MATLAB engine installed for when users interact with the interface for the first time. I had to go in and add some additional error checking for when versions are not aligned to improve the user experience. I’ve also added support for additional data types such as Associative Arrays into the MATLAB interface, which were not supported in the original implementation. I am also looking at the credential passing between JMP and JMP Live, particularly for the non-username and password credential types.
- Paul N:
- Lib Curl is transitioning its build process to use of CMake, In September, the current winbuild method to build will be removed. Testing out building, curl, zlib, and hdf5 on windows x86_64 and Arm64 using CMake.
- Python Updates: A June 3 release of Python 3.11.13 and 3.13.4 fixes several CVE issues. Among them JMP-26572 – Use after free.
- Build of Python 3.11.13 from source
- Pushed to Windows 18.2.2
- Working on updating JMP 19 windows to 3.13.4
Interactive HTML
- Praveena:
- Paul Spychala: I have been fixing bugs for HTML and JMPLive.
- Distribution: Zooming and panning not available when Mosaic Plot exists. (JMPHTML-14675)
- Fix Layout when LDF excludes all rows (JMPHTML-14689)
- Support Fit to Window Maintain Aspect Ratio (JMPHTML-14699)
- Count and Percent Label for histogram bar use white background instead of transparent one (JMPHTML-13595)
- Histogram: Remove labels for 0 counts (JMPHTML-14669)
- Multiple Response Histograms needs to use deep copies instead of shallow copies (JMPHTML-14701)
- Render unsupported Multiple Response Histograms with By Groups static (JMPHTML-14709)
- Render unsupported Multiple Response Histograms with LDF Static (JMPHTML-14708)
- Mike Stickles: Completed initial work on JMPHTML-14380 (Format: The axis tick label format does not honor the decimal) and submitted changes. Finished addressing some issues that popped up and pushed that code up for review; it should be reviewed and submitted by the end of today.
JMP Live
- Aurora: Control chart warning improvements (hide warnings from users based on data permissions, tweak to BY group support, updates to server implementation Confluence article). Bug fixing. Reviewed JMP Live documentation. Jira triage for after 19.0.
Statistics
- Laura C-S: Fixed several more bugs in SEM just before the code approval deadline! I’m very happy with the status of the new features. Thanks to everyone for the code reviews and Haley for an amazing job with testing until the very last minute! Reviewed another draft of the SKP SEM webpage.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Tested the Bayesian Optimization platform with more simulations. I reviewed the description of desirability in Bayesian Optimization for Chris. I attended the seminar by Dr. Simon Mak about Bayesian optimization.
- Tonya: Working on cleaning up unit tests.

Product Management and Product Marketing
- Bryan F: Added security to the frontend of usability builder I’m developing. Now a usability study builder user needs to create an account to create user studies and access user data from the studies. The study questions are still set to be publicly available. I need to do additional work to allow anyone within JMP to self-signup to create user studies. Also, I need to experiment with having per “builder” files and folders. Finally, I need to create documentation and conduct testing before making it available.
Development Operations
- Jim Borek:
- Built (then rebuilt) JMP EA #9, including JMP Pro Live (for the first time)
- Reported numerous ASAN and assertion failure JIRAs
- Completed many JIRA verifications

Worked with Audrey and Shannon Conners to finalize a code approval process for our emergency bug fix releases in JMP 19. - Shannon C: Reviewing open items for 19.0. Investigated several mystery crashes recently reported in 18.2 and 18.2.1. Meetings about approval process for X.X.3 and scripting examples. Various group technical meetings and discussions on ongoing AWS migration projects. Talking to team members about PLATO and development goals.
