Reliability Block Diagrams for large systemsI had an interesting customer question yesterday, they asked if the RBD tool in JMP Pro can accommodate large systems with thousands of individual components. Curious to hear if anyone has experience with this.

Re: Reliability Block Diagrams for large systemsI have never tried to build anything that large so I can't say if it will work and how well. It would be tedious and time consuming to build but if it's a complicated system you're going to have to specify the diagram somehow and the drag and drop nature of the RBD platform would make it somewhat easier. The improvements that have been made to importing component characteristics (distributions and parameters) would also make it relatively easy and straightforward to make changes (all values for import/export is done via a JMP Data Table).
Can the system be broken in a smaller number of subsystems? This might make it a bit easier to putting something large together.
Re: Reliability Block Diagrams for large systemsYep, agree with Don. The number of components is not the only factor. If this is an existing customer, just try it out. Hit a roadblock, then we figure out what to suggest.
Re: Reliability Block Diagrams for large systemsFor what it's worth, here's a script to make a script that makes and RBD with an arbitrary number of components. On my machine, nearly instant up to about 200 components. 2,000 components took a while to execute and froze everything, but it showed up just fine after about 45 seconds.
