Welcome to the JMP Development Update for May 15, 2025!
With signoffs now complete, JMP 18.2.1 is planned to be released in MyJMP next Tuesday. You can download details on the bug fixes included in the release notes for 18.2.1 here. In addition, numerous third party library updates are included in 18.2.1. Over the last several release cycles, JMP has made great strides in scanning, reviewing and fixing third party libraries to meet the needs of security-conscious customers. By the way, many of these customers also scan our software products to catalog the third party components they include and identify any vulnerabilities. JMP plans to have have monthly security updates during the 19 cycle in an effort to further shorten the fix cycle for security vulnerabilities – stay tuned for more information as we move beyond 19.0.
JMP 19.0 bug fixes continue with only a few items remaining in the under development section of the JMP 19 Late features page. JMP 19 Code Review mode begins on 5/23/25. As a reminder, code pushes made after 5/23 need to include the name of the reviewer in the push description, in the Jira issue and in any approval requests sent after JMP 19 Code Approval mode begins on 6/13/25.

Development Operations
- Shannon L: Created full project plan for JMP Marketplace Monetization project launch. Curated list of Atlassian May release changes affecting our Jira and Confluence sites, as well as documenting our own configuration improvements. Worked with Product Management to scope and implement Jira improvements to assist in feature tracking. More discussions on monthly security release naming as well as ideas around version-less JMP and continuous feature releases (all pending further discussions). Weekly technical meetings including standing product security vulnerability reviews. Technical meetings with Snyk and Atlassian.
- Melanie: Completed work to handle automated processes and Jira issue components and fields for renaming the Genetics book to Life Sciences. (JMPTOOL-1594, JMPDOC-2368). Generated localized Sample Data Tables for 19.0; general QA on the tables; reported a bug against Value Labels; submitted final tables. (JMPLOC-7051, JMP-25193, JMP-26341) Added the updated Disclaimer and copyright code for JMP (provided by legal) to all Builtin JSL scripts. (JMPTOOL-1449) Checked JSL conflicts against Chinese and Korean returned portable ui strings for Handoff 2. (JMPLOC-6852, JMPLOC-6861) With Shannon Leslie, implemented Issue Level Security for the JMP Marketplace project. (JIRAHELP-194) Participated in conversations about naming conventions for monthly releases in the future. Learned about perforce labels. Thanks, Allison Liang! General process, branch, qa, question-answering across DevOps.
- Bob: Finished Windows installer validation file upload and confirmation (JMPWEB-1764). Modified Windows installer to hopefully correct a locked font issue during installation (JMP-26196). Modified Windows installer to disallow installations on the oldest Windows 10 - now JMP will only install on 1809 and above (JMP-26228). Modified Windows installer to add code allowing a custom menu file (admincust.jmpcust) to be added during installation (JMP-26373). Researched security issues to help improve installer experience.
- Jim: Multiple assertion failure and LEAKS JIRA tickets were verified as fixed for JMP Pro 19; JMP products and installers are being built nightly from the 18.2.2 Perforce branch; the Baseline/NIST unit test scripts are being run nightly for JMP Pro 18.2.2 on all localized WinOS and mac OS supported systems, with work for the full unit test suite runs ongoing; Perforce accounts (that I am aware of) were set up for summer interns.
- Myron: Spent more time on SQL Server to PostgreSQL conversions (Jenkins scripts, database, dashboard environment in dev). Also worked on a few other minor maintenance issues like updating 18.2.2 data for the web dashboard.
- Shannon C:
- Discussions on release numbering for monthly releases. Investigated customer crashes, entered and updated Jira issues. Looked into origin- prefix issues with help redirects that surfaced with the rollout of new jmp.com.
- Thanks to Lisa Grossman for publishing a new report for crashes by year and release to JMP Live!
- If you look at this graph, you can see the prominent bars for JMP 17.0 and 17.2 (abbreviated version below). Certainly the longer length of time that release has been in the field has an impact. But digging deeper, it’s apparent that many of the reports in JMP 17.0 resulted from two common causes:
- crashes impacting graphs/hover labels for certain cases (JMP-13682, JMP-18895 and related dups)
- a very difficult to debug issue (JMPTEST-464) which may have been resolved by JMP-23081, a Graph Builder drag and drop crash fixed in 18.2.
- Both managed except crashes above can be seen occurring in JMP when running in English and all our language variants.
- As JMP 17 use in the field has decreased and these prevalent issues were fixed or worked around, we have seen fewer crashes reported in 18.X releases.
- Although not shown in this graph, another trend is that many more crashes are now received anonymously than are sent through technical support. This is why I’ve been focusing on entering JMPTEST items under my Mystery Crash epic (JMPTEST-95) as a way to highlight groupings of matching anonymous crash stacks that lack clear replication cases and deserve further investigation by developers. Once they can be replicated, they are moved to the correct component in the JMP project.

Localization
- Allison: Finalized JA 19.0 Sample Data translations and handed off both ZH and JA to Melanie to build the tables; prepared 18.2.1 Release Notes translation project and handed off to JMP Japan for translation; I translated ZH 18.2.1 Release Notes; responded to translation queries on Sample Data and Portable UI strings; reviewed processes for localizing Quick Start to prepare for handoff of 19.0.
