Is there a book or pdf out there more than the blurb in scripting guide?
Not that I am aware of, but I think you can learn a lot from studying the sample applications that comes with JMP 11.
For example this one:

I haven't really used the Application Builder much (yet), but it seems that to make advanced apps you still need to know how to write/edit JSL code.
