I have a data table with several text columns and 1 numeric column (results). Each text column describes a specific process, conditions, machine, etc. used. I would like to see which processes, conditions, machines obtain the best results. I cannot do multivariate analysis with the text columns. Is there a way in JMP to create a new numeric column that would assign a number to a text? For example, for column 1, I have 20 different texts and therefore JMP creates a column by assigning each different text a number from 1 to 20.

You could use the option Convert Labels to Codes and Codes to Labels by selecting your columns, then go to menu "Col", then "Utilities", and then "Labels to Code". Example on "Big Class Families" dataset by selecting column "name" :
