Welcome to the JMP Development Update for March 28, 2025!
With JMP 18.2 now released, tech support is hearing from and assisting customers as they adopt it. Meanwhile, work continues on the final list of features still being finalized for JMP 19. If you have a feature item listed in a section on the JMP 19 Late Features page that is now considered Test-Ready for 19.0, please move your section to the Completed part of the page or let me know and I’ll be glad to do it.
As we move towards our final JMP 19 EA freezes on 4/17/25 (EA8) and 6/5/25 (EA9), please update the Motivation and Summary section of your feature pages with information about late breaking additions and tag your updates with the relevant EA number. This makes it easier for product management to identify recent changes to highlight to customers. And if you’d like to sign up to present at a JMP Dev meeting this spring or summer, please add your name to a slot on this page in Confluence.
At this week’s Dev meeting, Mandy Chambers presented on JMP data table updates. Thanks very much to Mandy and to Ernest Pasour, David White and Evan McCorkle for responding to chat messages and answering questions throughout the meeting. As noted during the meeting, JMP’s interactive data table is really one of a kind and is a central feature of the product! There are so many exciting changes coming for JMP 19 so please do check them out and share feedback by sending it to jmpbeta@jmp.com. If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here.
Congratulations to everyone featured on the Anniversaries, New Hires, On the Move, and Kudos: March 2025 page this month including Shannon Leslie (5) and Khawar Khan (1) from my DevOps org who celebrated work anniversaries in March. And while I know the article only recognizes first anniversaries and others in 5 years increments, I wanted to note that March is also localization manager Trish O’Grady’s 36th work anniversary! Congrats also to our many R&D team members who received kudos and promotions this month. And welcome to our new JMPers - looking forward to seeing many of you at reunion very soon!
Thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s Beta/Crash cases for this week with crashes selected!

JMP Development Updates
Statistics
- John Sall:
- In the Contour Profiler, there is a new "Clipping" menu item that allows you to specify elliptical (circular) clipping area to limit the content to the outline of a wafer (JMP-25394).

- In the Design Space Profiler, the corners feature had to add a feature for a log-probability criterion for cases when the inspec probability couldn't be nudged better than zero in a step (JMP-25550). I also added an action history table to track changes (JMP-25400).
- In Process Screening, dragging a selection caused inadvertant scrolling in the middle of a drag, so the updating was postponed using a background callback (JMP-25495).
- The Contour Profiler's frame size was increased to 400-by-400 to avoid white lines appearing in filled contours on the Mac. It is still a problem if the users changes the frame size or the grid size (JMP-21022).
- In Process Screening, the "Proportion" type was heavily modified with new launch options. "Use Upper Limit", "Use Lower Limit", and "K Sigma for Proportion" (JMP-25351). Also examples were added for the Scripting Index (JMP-25516).
- In Response Screening, a crash bug in 2-way subgrouping was fixed after being broken by a performance improvement (JMP-25534). I also fixed a crash involving no data (JMP-25584).
- In Fit Mixed I fixed a crash involving "Suppress Reports" (JMP-25579).
- Elizabeth: Bug fixes related to alternative standard error and degree of freedom options in Mixed. Public kudos to Ernest Pasour for his work on Compare Data Tables which allowed me to compare the elements of two matrices that had ~22k cells to find where one was calculating incorrectly. By seeing the pattern of discrepancies, I could identify where and how the one was wrong and what the fix was. I’d probably still be stuck on that bug without that tool!
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Reviewing stat UI strings in preparation for the next 19.0 string handoff to translation; preparing for Reunion meetings and activities; planning for summer intern projects.
Stat Testing
- Mark: I am nearly finished with the script to run simulation studies of the new Bayesian optimization methodology. I explored the changing user interface and experience of the Bayesian Optimization platform with Yeng. I created my performance and development goals for 2025.
- Jacob: Testing Simulate Responses, including a pending change in the Covering Array platform. Working on tests for set cover(), preparing to test BayesFlo. Adding new tests for OML Designs. Investigating performance issues.
- Tonya: Testing Process Screening and Process Capability changes.
Life Sciences Updates
- Drew: JMP Clinical 19.0 bug fixing. Assisting customers solve deployment issues/suggestions. Work on utilizing the python-docx package to generate output from JMP (e.g. Tabulates into tables in a Word doc).

Product Management and Product Marketing
- Bryan F: I finished processing data from the JMP Lab and held meetings to report the results for dynamic data table filtering and the JMP Live Theme. The dynamic data table filtering received an exceptionally high Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 60, which is nearly double the highest score we've ever seen on anything we've tested. This is a landmark success. Despite this achievement, we identified areas for improvement and believe there is still significant room to enhance the feature to reach a level of power and usability unlike anything on the market. The new JMP Live theme was also well received, and we plan to make some adjustments based on the feedback. Also, I participated in a string review for JMP Live and provided feedback on partially successful actions. I coordinated with Sarah Gilyard and Sarah Sylvestre on a profiler enhancement usability study, began work on developing icons for JMP 19, and collaborated with Kaylee and Sarah Sylvestre on content for JMP Lab reporting on a PM dashboard.
Development Operations
- Melanie:
- Re-checked ES, FR, and JA JSL Conflicts for localization.
- Mapped out the process and Jira changes needed to manage stringbot dictionary requests. This will go live next week. Thanks to Qiana Eaglin, Michael Crotty, Myron Chandler, and Shannon Leslie!
- Started to plan for migrating Stringbot for Builtins and Stringbot for Sample Data to AWS.
- Unit Test Stream work – created a new graph for Windows Unit Test Streams that shows not just successes and failures, but also runs that never happened (sometimes there’s a failure to launch a successful image!). After some table work next week, I’ll have a bunch of new graphs published to JMP Live.

- Shannon L: Rolled out the Jira issue-level security configuration for the JMP Clinical project. Project planning for JMP Marketplace monetization. Continued to assist with JMP 19 story cleanup. Salesforce Quote-to-Cash and Privacy Center meetings. Weekly technical meetings, including JMP 18.2.1/19 security scanning reviews. Met with SAS/JMP Legal to discuss if export registration is needed for JMP developed add-ins. Finished adding goals to Workday. Working through procurement forms for Atlassian renewals. On vacation this coming Monday/Tuesday, back Wednesday.
- Bob: Investigated why the Excel Addin can't install properly on internal Windows PCs after latest EPM (Beyond Trust) updates. (JMP-25573). Met to discuss best processes for Student Addin (JMP-25520). Prepared installers for EA 8. Continued work on system requirements data gathering (JMP-25235).
- Shannon C: Goals discussions with team members and documentation of my goals in Workday. Reported mystery crashes resulting from my review of common unsolved crashes from 18.1.2 and crashes reported by customers adopting 18.2. In preparation for Myron’s migration of Testbot data to AWS, reviewed persisting unit test failures and reporting JMPTEST items
- Myron: Continued work on jmptool/SQL Server database migration to Postgres/AWS. Removed more huge, obsolete data accumulated by unit tests (JMPTOOL-1367). Started updating Jirabot API calls (JMPTOOL-1538).
- Jim: Way too much time spent on INC4806834
Localization
- Krzysztof: Assisting returns of JMP Live translations (pull requests, small fixes). Finished documentation of the MT process for Marketplace descriptions and Review process using both memoQweb and packages. Prepared a memoQ project and documentation of the review process of the English Marketplace description strings (by writers). Testing new automation. Aligning TMs for PortableUI (after the split of the syntax: // into separate strings for some 130 strings).
- Ying: Finished checking EN screenshot scripts for UG and retaking screenshots if needed (JMPLOCTOOL-717). Continuing to check EN screenshot scripts for DJ and retaking screenshots if needed (JMPLOCTOOL-735). Currently, three chapters have been completed. Opened four Jira bugs for functions or interfaces. (JMP-25578 / JMP-25519 / JMP-25544 / JMP-25592)
- Allison: Worked on providing feedback and validating the renamed documentation pdfs in the L10nsource area in P4 after Howard batch updated the file names; investigated and fixed localization related issues reported by QA team on JMP Live UI strings; met with Doc team to discuss process for creating localized Help; responded to translation related queries from translation team and communicated with developers.
- Trish: Met with Documentation Team to discuss Jiras and workflow for building localized help for V19. Prep work for handoff #2 of portable UI strings. Meeting to discuss JMP Student Menu add-in – src mgmt. and localization.

- Qiana: Continued working on sample data. Met with Melanie and Michael to discuss Stringbot and strings. Met with L10N to discuss the workflow and Jiras for Ying building the localized help. Attended JMP Student Menu add-in meeting. Discussed testing the help with Audrey. Project planning and coordination.
- Susan C: Worked on business goals and got in Workday. Planning for Jiras for JMP Live/localization. Working on JSL updates for JMP Live. Plans for work/meetings during Reunion.
- Chris: JMPDOC-2184: Updated some Sample Index descriptions with Evan’s help. Worked on 18.2 Doc Library Add-in.
- Devon: Continued work updating screenshot scripts, building and testing CSS for XML-based web help.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Mostly working on JMP 19, including demo preparation and testing new tag dialog changes and some updates to table views. Updated the Lipid Data.jmp table one more time, and likely we will make another change early next week since the tags are now located a bit better at the top of the Column header – see image. NOTE also that a None tag doesn’t take up any space – if you use no emoji and no color tag. Working on adding a few more tests – with Tags/Properties, Filter Views, and workflow builder – now works with Notebooks – hoping to be able to script that and add a workflow test there. Verifying Jira issues and writing tests.

- Hunter: More verification for JMP-22400 (support for authorization during the grace period in JMP 19). Applied Sequoia 15.4 release candidate on the Intel and Apple Silicon host testing Macs in the lab and ran some tests. Looking at several issues on Windows with incorrect file type associations in JMP and the Excel Add-in for JMP not installing properly (JMP-25573). Bob has an open ServiceNow ticket for this issue that may be related to a recent security update on our Windows devices unrelated to JMP.
- Lisa: Worked on cleaning up some tickets by matching up duplicates and moving ones that have already been fixed. Also worked on verifying bug fixes.
- Audrey: Investigated a round-tripping issue on Mandy’s behalf, Jira admin work, Reunion planning, intern planning.
Web Testing – Cary
- Helped with a few certificate issues.
- Assisted on a customer question about when the JMP Live Server will pick up a time zone change.
- Worked with Chris Humphrey and Alex L. on a game plan to upgrade auth.live.com to Keycloak 26.
- API Key has been removed from JMP Live 19.0. We've done lots of regression testing since 17.x and 18.x still have an API and can publish to 19.0.
- Verified Keycloak 26.1.4 upgrade and new installs for JMP Live 19.0.
- The team has switched to bug-fixing mode with gusto!

System/Host Testing-Beijing
Core
- Dave B: Updated table box sorting and grouping so it works with checkbox columns (sorts by checked state). Started an experimental run of image tests in dark mode. Recreated an anonymous user crash saving Categorical report to excel.
- Dan S: Fixes for Dark mode (legend text, hier box, graphlets, border box). A few more fixes related to PlatformContainerBox. Focus-navigation fixes. Update styling of SliderBox to use control accent colors.
- Morgan: Added more accessible scripting support to Notebooks, did documentation work for Notebook in the scripting index, and finished up some gaps in Python coloring support.
- Xan: Bar chart labeling and spacing; pattern fills; violin plot truncation issues near 0; mass changes from setOrigin/setWidth to setScale.
- Evan: Changes to Tags UI following DSE2025 Lab feedback.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: For most of this week, I was out on personal vacation visiting family in Atlanta. Since coming back, I’ve fixed a few bugs that my testers found while I was away.
Hosting and Interfaces
- Will:
- MATLAB Integration: Working with Bryan Boone on reimplementing the JMP 18 MATLAB Integration utilizing JMP’s Python environment in lieu of the TK Libraries removed in 19. So far, we can connect to MATLAB and transfer data such as primitive types, lists, matrices, and even data tables back and forth. We are reimplementing the same interface as before, but with a new backend.
- SharePoint Data Connector: Authentication is now verified with SAS, so users should have less headache when trying to get their IT department to grant them access to the application.
- John Schroedl: Discovered that registration of the Excel Add-In broke recently. Worked with Hunter and Bob to diagnose and a CIS ticket is open. Text field now triggers portable change callback when committing text in the IME. Fix possible buffer overrun in text encoding conversion. Fix host label printing which truncated at some sizes. Got language switching on non-English OSes working again. Look at WebView2 issue with Bryan B.
- Paul N:
- Entering some Goals into Workday
- Continuing work with closing out JMP 19 Python Jiras
- Majority of time has been spent on writing a Python script that automates updating JMP’s file locations with an updated Python version. MacOS has been updated to Python 3.13.2 with this new script. Windows script still to come.
- Spent some time working with John Schroedl on the Beyond Trust update breaking the install of the Excel Add-in since March 21.
Interactive HTML
- Praveena:
- Worked on JMPHTML-14390 and issues related to it. The above UI changes led to a significant number of image differences. Dave Barbour assisted in saving these changes for future review, allowing us to identify any potential issues. Thank you, Dave!
- Additionally, John Powell, Paul Spychala, and I met with Bill Worley to gather feedback on the menu options available in JMP Live. Bill also provided us with some datasets that we can utilize to test this feature. We plan to reach out to more SEs to collect further feedback on this enhancement.
- Entered business goals in Workday. Triaging bugs in JIRA.
- Mike Stickles: Fixed bugs JMPHTML-14457 (Line: Line label shows up on interactive HTML5 but the message in JMP log says different story), JMPHTML-1087 (S1588800: Saving interactive html with a log axis and line of fit in Graph Builder shows an incorrect line), and JMPHTML-14441 (GB: Bar: Label values need to maintain precision), and JMPHTML-14259 (GB: Bar: Label by value precision should be persisted w/Summary statistics); two have been accepted and closed, the others are awaiting testing. Referred four other older bugs which I could not reproduce (i.e., which may have been fixed as byproducts of other work) to testing for verification: JMPHTML-1807 (GB: Area: Tooltips for chart w/2 Xs, Y & Overlay incorrect), JMPHTML-1939 (Post doesn't load with Chrome on JMP Live), JMPHTML-1756 (GB: Area: LDF: Areas not filled when filter on categorical value), and JMPHTML-2096 (A Control Chart with LDF shows different between JMP and the exported HTML5 file); two of these have been verified NOREP and the others are awaiting testing. Started working on JMPHTML-1514 (GB: Line: Chart is different and only extends partway across chart area); have identified exactly where the problem is but have not yet identified a fix that doesn’t break something else. Finished entering my goals in Workday and entered a personal goal in PLATO.
- Paul Spychala: This week I worked on Parallel Plot bugs (JMPHTML-13741, JMPHTML-13551). We have also enabled additional Triple Dot (Red Triangle) menu items in the Bivariate Platform (JMPHTML-14456, JMPHTML-14401). I have also worked on cleaning up the code to make it more maintainable, testable, and easier to work on (JMPHTML-14448, JMPHTML-14420). Lastly Profiler X-Axis alignment was fixed (JMPHTML-13663).
- John Powell: Entered my goals for 2025 in Workday. Working on updating marker shape rendering in HTML (WebGL) version of Scatterplot 3D to handle high marker quality like JMP that has special treatment for certain marker shapes.
JMP Live
- Aurora: Bug fixing - several bugs related to @ mentioning in comments and in control chart triage notes, working on one related to bulk deletion of posts. Lots of Jira triage - planning more general 19.0 bug fixing work now that control chart triage is wrapping up.
Note from Shannon
Thanks to doc team writer Susan Conaghan who shared the following today along with her update. I love hearing about the many interesting passions JMP people have outside the office! Hope you all have a great weekend!
I’m off work today, we’re performing the Scottish premiere of an opera about climate change called Uprising. Super exciting! We’ve been practicing for 3 months, and it’s finally go time! Here’s a pic from our rehearsal last night. You can spot me at the top centre, back row, with the grey top, high hands! :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
