In machining, it is important to optimize three-dimensional shapes and surface properties. When optimizing these multiple characteristics, not only technical perspectives such as quality, cost, and productivity are important, but also management perspectives such as planning, design, manufacturing, and sales. From a management perspective, it is important to reach a consensus with stakeholders, including within the company, and the challenge is to clarify the machining mechanism and build and visualize the machining model. To visualize the machining mechanism, analysis software is used to seamlessly carry out everything from experiment planning to analysis, and JMP has this function, and it also has a wide range of optimization functions. Setting appropriate constraints and searching for optimal conditions while reaching a consensus with stakeholders is an approach that takes into account a management perspective.
This poster session will focus on the machining process of drilling 1mm diameter micro holes in glass, a highly brittle material. A response surface design was created using JMP, the data obtained from the experiment was analyzed using nonlinear regression, and the shape and properties were described using a statistical model, after which the optimal solution was obtained using mathematical programming. A methodology for achieving optimization while incorporating a management perspective and building a consensus with stakeholders will be proposed.
