How did Tesla make the batery systerm for electric vehicle with DOE？

Tesla is the best electric vehicle company for it's high technology of battery control systerm . it' amazing by making thousands of batteries in to a car ,and their engineer said the technology was based on DOE of jmp.

But what did they do？how to use doe of  jmp  on battery congtrol systerm?
