To guarantee product quality with a high degree of reliability, it is necessary to fully understand the accuracy of measuring instruments. Gauge R&R is a typical method for evaluating measurement accuracy, but our company uses the EMP method proposed by Dr. Donald J. Wheeler as the standard method.
JMP supports the EMP method in the MSA platform from version 10 onwards, and basic analysis can be performed with the Gauge R&R method. However, some of these representative indices are significantly affected by the sample being measured, so results must be interpreted with care. In addition, experimental planning for evaluating measurement accuracy is based on repeated brute-force experiments. Planning can be done from the custom design of the DOE platform, but the procedure is a bit complicated. To solve these problems, we have developed and are using an add-in that allows engineers to easily plan and analyze EMP.
This presentation will provide examples to explain three points: 1) an overview of measurement accuracy evaluation using the EMP method and the Gauge R&R method, 2) experimental planning for measurement accuracy evaluation using JMP and interpretation of the results, and 3) an add-in that enables engineers to easily carry out these tasks.
