On the job...
Yusuke plays a crucial role in maintaining the high standards of JMP in the Japanese market. "My daily works include testing, reviewing Japanese strings and documents, and advising some statistical matters to sales engineers and technical supports at JMP Japan."
His journey to this role is a unique blend of sociological studies and statistical expertise. "My educational background is sociology," Yusuke shares. "My first job was in technical support for SAS/STAT, SAS/ETS, SAS/QC, SAS/IML, SAS/INSIGHT, SAS/OR, SAS/ASSIST and, later, Enterprise Miner, at SAS Japan,” he said. After a short stint at Aventis [now Sanofi] as a biostatistician, Yusuke returned to JMP Japan as a contract worker in 2005 and, a few years later, became a full-time employee at JMP Japan.
Among his favorite contributions at JMP, Yusuke highlights the book clubs and learning sessions he helped establish. "It’s not an official project, but from about four years ago, technical workers at JMP Japan started two book-reading clubs for mathematical statistics and applied statistics (or machine learning), and one session for learning JMP features. These three meetings are held online weekly," he said.
For those starting in his field, Yusuke offers a valuable piece of advice: "I recommend you read the 2016 American Statistical Association P-Value Statement, especially if you, like me, learned only good-old-days traditional cookbook statistics."
As a representative of the JMP brand, Yusuke focuses on approachability. "When I talk with users and review Japanese documents, I try to explain statistics with basic words."
Yusuke enjoys jogging and has completed a 100km Ultramarathon! On the side...
Outside of work, Yusuke enjoys a unique blend of fitness and social activities. "I now like joining 'mara-nic' events," he said. "The 'mara-nic' is a coined Japanese word – a mix of 'marathon' plus 'picnic.'
A fun fact that might surprise many is his unconventional approach to landing his first job interview. "About 30 years ago, when I tried to contact the HR group at SAS Japan for a job interview, I called Technical Support. The phone number to Technical Support was printed in the SAS paper document, and I did not know any other contact information to SAS Japan at that time," Yusuke revealed.
Yusuke's dedication to quality assurance and his approachable communication style make him a valuable asset to the JMP team. We're grateful to have him!
