We’re doing things a little differently this year. Instead of hosting Discovery Summit over the course of several consecutive days, we’re spreading it out over the course of a couple weeks in March.
What can you do right now?
Explore the agenda.
If you’re staffing the event, join the March 1 meeting for more details.
Block your calendar for your duties (staffing list to come out soon) and for the sessions you’d like to attend.
Use this virtual and social promo kit to let people in your network know about the conference.
JMP staff will receive instructions for logging on to the virtual conference center. When you do, please set up your profile, including a photo. JMP employees do not need to register for the conference. SAS employees who want to attend SHOULD register on the web.
The Discovery Summit Europe 2022 presentations are available for registered users of the Community until the end of the conference. Here is a JMP Live graph showing the presentation views overall and by user.
A few things to anticipate
Conference delegates will find the sessions (and unsessions) they know and love – paper and poster presentations, JMP Cares activities, Getting Started With JMP, and opportunities to meet the experts in the Discovery Expo. They can also look forward to plenary sessions and unique ways to connect with each other.
March 8
Plenary Session: The Joy of Data
Hannah Fry, Professor in the Mathematics of Cities
“I’ve spent the last decade working with data, hunting for mathematical patterns in human behaviour. In that time, I’ve come across some incredible stories - written solely in the numbers - that get right to the heart of who we are as people.
“In this optimistic talk, I’ll share some extraordinary tales about what’s happening at the very cutting edge of data science – a host of surprising and delightful stories that demonstrate how far you can go when we look back at ourselves through the eyes of data. And I’ll show you how a mathematical view of what it means to be human can shape the way we design our society, from dating and healthcare to catching serial killers, and everything in between.”
Exploratory Session: Affinity Group for Women in Science and Engineering
What does statistical discovery look like through the eyes of women? During this session, we’ll seek input for launching an affinity group for women in the JMP Community. It’ll be a safe space for women, those who identify as women, and those who identify with the unique challenges women face working in science, engineering or the field of statistics.

Plenary Session: It’s Always Something
John Sall
To quote Roseanne Roseannadana, "It just goes to show you. It's always something. If it's not one thing, it's another." When analyzing data, sometimes we feel very frustrated because just as one problem has been addressed, there is always another one just around the corner. It feels like it never ends, especially since we still need to meet each frustration and deal with it. When modeling, we need to pay attention to common problems, like those involving missing values, outliers, limits of detection, and unusual distributions, which can make all the difference between drawing the right conclusion – or the wrong one.
Social: Early Pi Day Cooking Demo
Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi) and is observed on 14 March (3/14 in the month/day format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. It’s also a great excuse to eat pie. Jill Santa-Lucia of Catering Works will give a live pre-Pi Day pie cooking demonstration. An ingredient list will be available for people who want to try out the recipes themselves.
March 22
JMP Cares: International World Water Day
We’re inviting customers and JMP staff to participate in a charitable cleanup activity. Just like World Cleanup Day last year, we want to do something good for our communities and analyze the data we collect on it. Litter thoughtlessly thrown on the ground or in the water clogs waterways and contaminates ground water. Mahmoud Hammoud (@mhammoud) is preparing a JMP Public dashboard to feature throughout March. If you are participating in the cleanup, please submit your data by Feb. 28.

Plenary Session: Analytics Advocate Spotlight
More details to come, but it promises to be as fascinating as the panel discussion at Discovery Summit Americas 2021.
Social: A Taste of Sitges
As Discovery Summit Europe comes to an end, we’ll look forward to next year’s live summit, currently planned for Sitges, Spain. And what better way to experience Spain from afar than with its most beloved, historical dish – paella. Join a live paella cooking class demonstration by Chef Helina Sanchez of Paella Barcelona. You can participate too, by cooking along with recipes for paella, breadsticks and sangria. An ingredient list will be sent out in advance to attendees who wish to prepare for and interact with the demo.
