Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another.Hey All,
We have a customer (Samsung) who is looking for a way to transfer their preferences in their current version of JMP to the new version once they get it installed. Not sure about everyone else, but this seems like a recurring question. I thought there was an add-in or script out there that would help with this, but I searched and could not find anything.
Thanks,
Bill
Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another. Thanks Julian, just what the doctor ordered!
Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another. Thanks Mike. I had gone to the scripting index after I posted my question and found those calls. Just haven't pulled off a transfer as of now.
Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another.Hi All,
I have added my Preferences Manager to the File Exchange. Below is also the link if you wish to share:

Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another.Excellent point, Jeff. I'd been waiting until it seemed sufficiently tested, but I think we're past that point. I'll make a page for this add-in now.

Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another.@julian, if it's okay to distribute this add-in externally, please post it to the Add-ins section of the File Exchange. We shouldn't be in the habit of mailing add-ins to customers. We should be able to point them to the posts in the add-ins if we want to distribute them.
Thanks!
Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another.I use this add-in all the time! It is perfect for its intended application. Like a lot of you, I use JMP in different modes: writing, teaching, and analyzing, to name just a few. It is so great to be able to customize the preferences and then switch between them with just a few clicks.
Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another. That is indeed one of mine, Stan. It should hopefully be self-explanatory, but let me know if you have any questions. Some quick notes, though:
When you first install, there will be no preference profiles. Just click "Save Current Preferences," and pick a name. You'll now have a profile based on the current preferences.
You can now select a profile and export it using the export selected profile option under manage > import/export > export selected profile. This will make a .jsl file that does NOT need this add-in to run. You can just share the .jsl file that is created, and when opened, it will set JMP to those preferences (makes it easy to share prefs). You can also import this .jsl pref file to the manager if you like using the import profile file option.
Cross-platform compatibility is limited for fonts. Only check the "include fonts in profile" option for setting preferences on the same time of computer (win/mac).

Please let me know if you find any bugs. I've tested a good bit (and use this often) but can't make any guarantees.
Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another.Hi Bill,
I think this was created by @julian and perhaps will work for what you are asking.
Please test prior to sharing.
cheers,
Stan
Re: Copying/Transferring Preferences from one version of JMP to another. You can get the content using two JSL Calls: Get Preferences() and Get Platform Preferences(). This will write the preferences to the log. From there you just have to take the outputs and put them inside of Set Preferences() and Set Platform Preferences() calls.
It’s a little messy but I’m betting that Samsung doesn’t have access to the directory where the preference files are stored anyway, so the customer probably can’t get to the .PFS files.
