Welcome to the JMP Development Update for February 28, 2025!
This week, QA teams continue to vet 18.2 installers as we move closer to our release date. And now that we are more than a month past JMP 19 feature freeze, teams are focused on wrapping up JMP 19 late feature work and heading into a heavy bug fixing phase. I have a few very important reminders for teams to keep in mind at this time in the JMP 19 cycle:
- Please continue to triage open Story items that are not on the JMP 19 Late Features page but are still marked with Planned Version = 19.0. We have ~150 items still marked this way so please review your items as soon as you can! If you will be working on minor new feature items for JMP 19.1, you can add them (along with an assessment of impact to downstream teams) to the JMP 19.1 Features page.
- If you have a new platform or feature that has a need for any sort of new icon, please get your requests in ASAP! Follow this How-To page to request new JMP 19 icons. Icon requests items should be of Story type and should be linked as children of the JMP 19 Icons epic JMPUX-192. Bryan Fricke will be working on icons after the conclusion of Discovery Europe on March 13, so please put your requests in now so that the request list will be complete by that point.
- If you have a new feature that needs new or updated sample data, please keep in mind that the Sample Data deadline for JMP 19.0 is Friday, March 14. If you would like to add a new table or make changes to an existing table, you should follow the process documented here: Create a new sample data table. If you have any questions, please contact Qiana Eaglin.
- Please update user interface strings by March 14, which is the developer freeze date for our second handoff of Portable UI strings. (There will be a final string handoff in May, but it would be great to have as many strings as possible updated by the March deadline.)
We have a bit of a break before our next JMP 19 EA freeze (April 17), so please take the time to address the items above. Completing these tasks really does help provide a clearer picture of what work is left for 19 – which helps downstream teams plan their own work as we head towards later release deadlines. Thanks!
Congratulations to all JMPers who were featured in the Anniversaries, New Hires, On the Move, and Kudos: February 2025 article on Inside JMP today! A big congratulations to development team members Ryan Lekivetz (for a well-deserved promotion to Director of the DOE and Reliability group) and John Cromer of the life sciences group (who celebrated his 15th work anniversary)! Another member of the life sciences group, Tom Pedersen, was featured in the January edition for celebrating 25 years! Congratulations to you all!
It was also great to see two very deserving members of our development team featured in the kudos section!
- Bob Hickey, nominated by Beth Evans for jumping in to help resolve technical issues at the in-person watch party for the Cary HQ Company Kickoff. Everyone who knows Bob (and Bob knows everyone!) knows that he’s always willing to assist at a moment’s notice - whether it is to check a machine that’s misbehaving, look into a daily installer question or work with technical support on a customer case.
- Evan McCorkle, nominated by Mandy Chambers for his incredible attention to detail regarding the JMP user interface and JSL scripting. Evan has made significant contributions to so many JMP features over the years - but probably less well-known are the tooling improvements he’s contributed that testers use every day (e.g., the JSL Hamcrest framework he co-developed with Justin Chilton).
Also, thanks very much to the JMP HTML team for presenting at this week’s dev meeting! They showed off many new features and showcased important bug fixes and performance improvements. I’m particularly excited about the multiple response data filter and interactive 3D scatterplot becoming available in JMP Live – but I guarantee that in this release, there is something for every interactive HTML and JMP Live fan. If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here.
And finally, thanks to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash cases with crashes selected! (I’m really glad to see all these crashes getting reported and documented in Jira issues, everyone – please keep it up!)

JMP Development Updates
Statistics
- John Sall:
- Implemented a mechanism to synchronize profilers in Bayesian Optimization.
- In the Design Space Profiler, customers wanted to get how bad the in-spec rates could get in the current factor limit space. The worst rates tend to be in the corners, so we now have options to show the in-spec rates in each corner. These are calculated using the Normal Distribution function centered at the predicted value and cut at the spec limits.
- In the example below, the 99.8% of the factor space is compliant with the spec limits, but at two of the corners, for low Silane and low Sulfur, the probability of compliance is low, suggesting that the low limits be increased for those.

- Laura C-S: Traveled to Denver for teaching a longitudinal SEM workshop with Haley. We had great engagement with attendees (20-30 people showed up and 125 downloaded our materials) and connected with a few professors who we were able to show JMP to as well. Met with John Mosier to discuss content of a possible SKP page on SEM. Attended DEI metrics committee meeting. Fixed a couple of bugs with edge cases involving model comparisons and AICc weights in SEM.
- Elizabeth: Investigating estimability and effect tests in the presence of singularities in the data/model as relates to JMP-24728.
Stat Testing
- Jacob: Testing updates to covariates in Custom Design. Gave presentation on using covering arrays in unit testing, with Mark Bailey. Preparing Easy DOE presentation for Roadmap session at Discovery Europe. Investigating Performance Issues.
- Tonya: Testing recent CCB changes and updating CCB unit tests.
Life Sciences Updates
- Drew: Triaging and implementing JMP Clinical Jiras. Updated build script to add legal disclaimer to all JSL sources in production builds.
- Richard: Completed Subgroup Screening. Will demo at 3/13 Dev Meeting.
Product Management and Product Marketing
- Bryan F: Continued developing user study content and logistics for the JMP Lab at the Discovery Summit, addressing concerns and discrepancies between the HTML and JMP implementations of the JMP Live theme. Hiring a third party for icons has stalled due to legal concerns with the contract. So, I will likely be creating the new JMP 19 icons and deferring a larger overhaul. Additionally, I participated in discussion about rolling back to OAuth2 for publishing to JMP Live.
- Kaylee: On Tuesday, we held our first competitor lightning round session for the sales enablement training series. This training featured 5 quick presentations on some of our tier 1 competitors and how to position JMP against them. If you want to learn more about this session we published an Inside JMP article that has all of the links to the presentations.
Technical Support and Engagement
- Wendy:
- With the relaunch of jmp.com this week, the Support teams have fielded minimal questions and reported related issues. Overall, the new site looks great and we congratulate Aaron Kennedy’s team for this accomplishment! Additionally, we would like to thank Daniel Powell for joining a team meeting this week to discuss JMP authorization.
- Our case data was updated this week and below are the usual graphs for case volume as well as topics for both Tech Support and Engagement. Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by Support for the last 14 days.

Development Operations
- Melanie:
- General DevOps: Continuing to monitor Unit Test automation. I’m now using tags for column management in the data tables, which makes updating error states easier going forward. Coordinating updates to some Jenkins projects that use a deprecated plugin (thanks to Nick Ruva and Krzysztof who might solve this before we even have a meeting to discuss options!)
- JMP Discovery Summit in Austin: Beginning to put together a proposal using the Unit Test Monitoring project to showcase collecting and cleaning data, continuous automated updates, live dashboards, and some new features like Column Tags.
- Documentation/Localization: Completed changing the output name for PDFs from the MIF-PDF automated jobs to the web-friendly filenames.
- Localization: Began analyzing Chinese JSL Conflicts for 19.0 Handoff 1 strings that have been returned and fixes for Korean conflicts reported last week.
- Jim: In addition to the continuing mac OS updates to bring unit test/build machines into compliance, multiple fixed JIRA tickets were verified for JMP 19; after producing the JMP 18.2 final image candidates, most subsequent daily processes were disabled for that branch; altered some WinOS build scripts after John Schroedl removed dependence on Telerik assemblies for JMP 19 (JMP-24933).
- Bob: Examined SalesForce query to investigate how we could report on data downloads. Build windows installer validation files for 18.2.
- Shannon: Met with interested parties to discuss telemetry usage and infrastructure changes. End of cycle coordination tasks, planning discussions and technical meetings. Investigated numerous crashes and unit test failures.
Localization
- Allison: Worked on preparing the 18.2 Release Notes kit to send out for localization. Addressed JSL conflicts in the 19.0 Portable UI KO translations; responded to queries from translation team about 19.0 Portable UI and JMP Live strings and communicated with developers. Delivered February iteration of Marketplace translations to Kristen. Worked with vendor to renew expired tax form.
- Krzysztof: Finished setting up FrameMaker + FM2DITA on an AWS machine (for conversions of localized FM files to Oxygen DITA format). Processing returns of PortableUI translations. Tune ups to auto machine translation of Marketplace descriptions. Working on new memoQ filter for asp templates (Books). Testing new L10N automation features.

- Moving to next major version when all versions are addressed
- Clone/re-open Jiras for new release version
- Jira integration bug fixes
- Ying: Continuing to check EN screenshot scripts for UG and retaking screenshots if needed (JMPLOCTOOL-717). Currently, the first 11 chapters have been completed. Seven Jira bugs opened for the Documentation team to make corrections to some screenshot scripts.
- Trish: Planning for reunion. 2025 Goal meetings with some team members – the remaining conversations should be completed next week. Coordinating handoff dates with the doc team.
- Sandy: Continued testing and refinement of new string return process program. Began parallel runs with production data to see any other issues I needed to address.
Documentation
- Susan C: Finished reviewing the UI strings for January. Planning for and working on the SPC features for JMP Live. We met this week and decided this will be a separate deliverable on jmp.com. Finished up the JMP Live Updater section in the install help and sending for review. Working on dates for JMP Live & HTML 19. Triaging older issues.
Release Notes - Working on dates for 18.2.1. Attended HTML5 demo.
- Khawar: JMP Preferences window - Discussed the task with Devon; Started comparing the documentation and Preferences window. Oxygen callout images - Finished creating images for EG.
- Qiana: Continued working on sample data. Submitted edits to Kristen for the Student Menu add-in. Ran the StringReview - Shows Source File Location and looked at results. Project planning and coordination.
- Devon: Continued work on column filtering and data connector updates documentation, reviewing Ying’s screenshot updates and updating screenshot scripts.
- Chris: Got the Chinese 18.2 help built, most of the 19.0 Copyright year fixes (JMP-15992 and JMP-23980) in, and attended the Jump into Graphing class. Worked on getting the new header working in JMPLive help.
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Had about 4-5 TS tracks including several about Workflow builder, even though nothing changed recently. A crash several encountered is already fixed. In testing that fix, I found a 2nd crash that is fixed now too. Worked on writing a few tests for Column tags-properties, grouping columns and filter views. Also finished up another with Tabulate and multiple response (MR) – I did have one TS track regarding that change and they liked it a lot. Working on 18.2 installer testing. Will work on my demo with Data table and all the changes for 19, for later March and also considering submitting an Abstract for DS-Americas.
- Hunter: Spent much of the week planning, configuring, and testing for JMP-22400 which will add support for authorization during the grace period in JMP 19. Verifications and responded to JMP 19 EA cases.
Web Testing – Cary
- Natalie: Mostly 18.2.0 JMP Live Installer testing. Completed without issue. Recovery from backend automation framework updates. Continued automation coverage for Control Charts.
System/Host Testing-Beijing
Core
- Dan S: Fixes for English scripts that do not run in other languages. Continued work on image output in light/dark mode. Support for saving customized properties for data table box in report - header height, side panel closed, etc. Sub-platforms (used as component in another platform) no longer have preset menu, column switchers, or sync to data changes menu option.
- Morgan: Working on code folding in the embedded log, reworking the “Capture To Notebook” action, and a number of other small fixes for Script Editor & Notebooks.
- Xan: Legend customizations are better preserved when adding/changing overlay variables. Hover labels vs scoped transforms work.
- Evan: Button role improvements on common dialogs. Trying to wrap up Column Filtering feature.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Working on bug fixes for sample size explorers.
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl: Made a large project change to move tree control code out of Telerik DLLs into JMP source. This eliminated the need to install stand-alone Telerik DLLs. Helping in ongoing investigation of Snyk output report indicating that JMP is using an old version of libxml2. Bob Hickey noticed that the rollout of the new jmp.com broke some features in JMP. I helped with that a bit and reported other breakages which Roger quickly fixed. Evan has made a number of nice changes related to default buttons. I made some changes related to that in my code which honors the OS mouse setting to auto-move the mouse pointer over default buttons when windows are shown. I am updating the Windows menu editor to use the new APIs returning the host and portable set of available icons. As part of that, I am updating the APIs with an enum to request only the icons which are appropriate to use in mouse/toolbar selection. Things like watermarks or various disclosure triangles are omitted as they should not be user-selectable. The add-in builder will use the same API. Also fielded some visual studio questions.
- Paul:
- Lots of JMP Python and R Integration support and bug fixing. Michael Hecht spent time tracking down leaks and ASAN issues in Python, I reviewed the changes and made updates to other portions of the Python code not touched my Michael’s changes.
- Additional work on the jmp.globals, jmp.here functionality in Python. They present a dictionary interface to Python scripts to access and set values in the globals and here namespaces. Added additional member functions to the Python side SymbolMapObject class to further mimic dictionary behavior. In addition to the existing [‘key’] operators, the following functions have been added:
- .get(‘key’) - Function returning the value for the given key.
- .keys() – Returns the list of keys in the symbol map.
- Items() – Returns a list of key-value pairs of the symbol map.
- values() – Returns a list of all the values in the symbol map.
- This week was spent tying up loose ends in the R integration, finishing up features and documenting the updates.
- jmp.globals – Adding additional function support for accessing symbol maps like a Python dictionary. (JMP-23923)
- Python crash 18 and 19 simultaneously accessing same site-packages directory. (before 19’s switch to 3.13, JMP-24718)
- typos and missing examples for R in Scripting Index. (JMP-24984)
- Create R object with NumPy arrays (JMP-24986)
- Create R DataFrame object with pandas DataFrame. (JMP-24987)
- Issue handling data tables / and Python dictionaries in conversion back from R object to Python or JSL top object. (JMP-24988)
- jmpex.R.R.submit_file() output display (JMP-24989)
- Outputs from R is an array (JMP-24990)
- Outputs not the same. Between JSL R Set(), R Get(), R Execute() (JMP-24991)
- Issue handling R named ListVector (JMP-25015)
- R Send File() issue. (JMP-25133)
- Michael H: Worked on many memory handling issues (leaks, crashes, ASAN) in Python Integration.
Interactive HTML
- Praveena: Worked on numerous Jira issues including
- John Powell: Fixed positioning light sources for Scatterplot 3D. Prepared for JMP Dev Demo and created some JMP Live Feature Requests for ideas inspired by the effort. Presented at the JMP Dev Demo. Republished my Scatterplot 3D examples here. Discussed a potential customer demo with Bill Worley. Investigated a fix for a crash exporting 3D content that is not Scatterplot 3D(JMPHTML-14404).
- Mike Stickles: Completed JMPHTML-1374 (Plots are static when legend positions use 'Inside Left' or 'Inside Right') and submitted to testing. Participated in the JMP Dev demo for JMP 19 new features in Interactive HTML.
JMP Live
- Aurora: Control chart warning improvements (bug fixes, clean up some integration tests). Tweak the "@ mentioning" notification email. Add confluence article "Create a copy of a JMP Live database".
Note from Shannon
Hopefully with the warmer weather, we’re getting past this awful flu and cold season! I’ve had numerous co-workers and family members sick in recent weeks, but fingers crossed that everyone is now on the mend! Hope you all enjoy the warmer weekend weather!

I love the vizusalization of in-spec rates in the corners, and 3D Plot in JMP Live !!! Great improvements !!!
