Welcome to the JMP Development Update for February 21, 2025!
Today, JMP QA teams in Beijing and Cary signed off on JMP 19 EA7! Installers are already pushed to MyJMP and product management will be notifying customers of their availability Monday afternoon. We are looking forward to getting some more feedback on recent JMP 19 updates!
Mia Stephens noted that having the Friday after the freeze available to focus on feature page updates helped speed up the process of identifying items that were “ready to test” for EA7. Of course, there is no need to wait until after an EA freeze to make feature page updates. You can work with the product manager you’re partnering with to update feature pages throughout each EA cycle as items are completed.
Thanks very much to JMP Life Sciences developer Luciano Silva for demoing his new JMP Pro 19 Marker Admixture platform at this Thursday’s JMP Dev meeting! If you missed the meeting, you can find the recording here. Also at the meeting, John Sall also spoke in honor of Russ Wolfinger’s 35th anniversary at SAS and JMP. With his trademark boundless enthusiasm, Russ commented that even after 35 years, he finds himself excited to start work each morning as he continues to learn and develop new code. Congratulations, Russ, on reaching this milestone!
We have a few topics already on the Teams calendar for upcoming dev demos and there are even more upcoming topics planned on the JMP Dev Meeting Volunteer Schedule. If you’d like to demo at a future session in March or April, please sign up on that page.
Today is JMP 18.2 Security Freeze. Thanks to everyone for working to get our scans to a clean state in preparation for final installer candidates for all products being generated next week! In addition, the new JMP 18.2.1 track had a few bug fix integrations this week as teams continue to identify critical security fixes and customer reported issues that need to be resolved for 18.X.
Thanks also to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash cases for this week with crashes selected!

JMP Development Updates
System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Finished up EA7 installer testing, Confluence page updates and video for Tabulate changes. Evan M. provided some action recording scripting for tags, so I was able to start using Workflow builder to open a few of my tables with tags, edit them, save them to a workflow and rerun it. After creating several such workflows on Mac and pushing to P4, I uncovered a new crash issue on windows. Also thinking about a possible download of USDA or Gov data to use for a data table demo later in March. The columns panel UI has been changing a bit more – so EA8 will have another view like this:

- Mike M: Found XML mismatch in 18.1 Help files… Thanks to Chris Barrett for figuring this out and fixing so quickly. Lots of churn with image tests crashing on new VM. Worked with John Powell to isolate some HTML bugs with text annotation, spacer box fills, and a process screening “tab page” workaround for images. Also thanks to Evan for looking at the Data Table partial draw issue (new bug opened).
- Nick H: Worked on updating our JSL scripts to work with the updated Jira Search, fixed a DNC in Functions/testColFunctions19, and continued work on a number of 19 bug and story verifications. Also found a bug with script editor coloring related to preceding lines containing ‘::’.
- Hunter: Completed JMP 19 EA 7 testing with a variety of configurations, JIRA verifications and updated status of several outstanding items, investigated JMP 19 EA 6 cases, and attended meeting for adding support in JMP 19 for authorization during the grace period.
- Audrey: EA7 testing, Implementing more automated scripts for our installer testing, preparing for 18.2 final validation which begins next week.
Web Testing – Cary
- Josh: Preparing for JMP Live 18.2.0 Installer Testing. Focused JMP Live Testing on the Add-in Manager. Assisted Jim Borek with a scripting alternative to $HOSTNAME, now that we have clear aliases for the build machines. Built a JMP Live 19.0 Server for Bryan Boone to test Snowflake integration—this will serve as a temporary solution while we wait for IT to add our AWS IP addresses to the appropriate security group

- Anna: Continuing testing of transform column fixes. Creating new reports for JMP 19 New Features. Creating reports with data tables that use new tags, filters, etc. Investigating Confluence bug with pasting pathnames.
System/Host Testing-Beijing
Core
- Dan S: Data Filter search in categorical filter no longer clears selection - use Ctrl-click to add to selection. Looking at some dark mode issues. Fix for host controls and a crash in the property panel. Updates to the Date/Data Table on Output preferences to improve sizing and make sure they are removed when platform closes.
- Morgan: Reworked script editor/notebook preferences, reworked notebook sizing, and done some fixing for script editors deciding not to redraw occasionally.
- Evan: Added action recording for Column Tags. Rework of Column Filtering UI (mostly done). Looking into font sizing consistency between Mac/Win/Live.
- Dave B: Cleaned up the add in status dialog. Worked with Nick R to speed up jmprunner image testing.
- Xan: Bugs: legends, multiple-response, histogram binwidth and 18.2.1 marker label crash
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: The battle to subdue the sample size explorer bugs continued! I think I can see a light at the end of the tunnel
. I also helped revise a paper I’m co-authoring for Quality Engineering and am nearing completion on a model for the student working on the accelerated test.
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl:
- More work on IME text entry. Various host control updates: Increased scrollbar hit test area. Combo box was not showing items added after initial dropdown. Adjusted Filter Field background color. Button and Panel display measurement tweaks. Add 18.2 Student Edition detection to Install Checker. Removed unnecessary copyright string from Call DLL sample code. Icon updates.
- Updated libxml2 to v2.13.6 for security fixes just under the wire for 18.2. Started removing the need to ship Telerik DLLs with our install as they can show in security scans but for features we do not use. I will move only the few classes we depend upon into jmpcs.dll. More sizing changes to panel display to grow when the title is wider than the content. Discussion and review of host fixes to properly handle spacebar in keystroke callback in the dedicated text box. Thanks to David White for finding and pushing the fix. Discussion and review of display box capture fixes for default appearance with Dan Schikore.
Interactive HTML
- Mike Stickles: Completed work on JMPHTML-1374 (Plots are static when legend positions use 'Inside Left' or 'Inside Right'); currently in code review. Fixed bug related to JMPHTML-2123 where labels in HTML did not properly limit decimal places if the number of decimal places was not specified in JMP. Working on preparations for the JMP 19.0 Interactive HTML Features demo next Thursday.
- John Powell: Updated Interactive HTML publishing to inject the current copyright string on the fly so it won’t need to be updated manually anymore (JMPHTML-14365). Implemented special handling for Process Screening reports with local data filters on JMP Live (JMP-24553). Fixed an issue when graphs with colored markers are published to JMP Live in an unexpected way which reduces functionality (WEBJMP-8489). Updated confluence pages for EA7. Working with marketing on a project for JMP Reunion. Completed Security Training. Began preparing for the upcoming JMP Dev Demo.
JMP Live
- Aurora: Control chart warning improvements (fixed some bugs, merged in Warnings List on Home page, added new table/column/chart specific count of open warnings, cleaned up Jira a bit, talked with Susan Conaghan about documentation). Updated some third party packages.
- Adrianna: Working on the JMP Live add-in manager, which will make installing and using add-ins on JMP Live easier.
