Read a delimited text file with column headings

To import a delimited text file, follow these steps:

1. From the menu bar, select [File] → [Open].
2. Follow the steps below for your platform and JMP version:

   Windows	After selecting Text files in the "Files of type" field, select the "Open preview as data" radio button
   Macintosh (JMP 8 and later)	1. Select a text document 2. In the "Open with" field, select "Data (with preview)"
   Macintosh (JMP 6, JMP 7)	1. Select [All readable documents] in the "Select" field 2. Select a text document 3. In the "Open with" field, select "Data (with preview)"
   Macintosh (JMP 5)	1. Select [Text Documents] in the "Show" or "Select" field. 2. In the "Open with" field, select "Text data with preview."

3. Click Delimiters.
   * Only for JMP 5.1 and earlier, a dialog box appears asking you to select either Delimited or Fixed Length. For JMP 6 and later, this is automatically determined.
4. Select the appropriate text file import options in the Text Import Preview dialog box. Click Apply Settings to preview the settings you have selected.
5. Verify that the column information appears correctly and click OK.
