Please help us welcome Natalie Starkey to JMP! Natalie previously worked for The Royal Society of Chemistry where she built and hosted the Chemistry World webinars program.
Natalie has spent the last decade honing her craft in science communication. Before this, she spent a decade as a scientist studying the geochemistry of rocks from volcanoes in the Caribbean and Arctic. She then moved into cosmochemistry to analyze pieces of comets, asteroids, the Moon, and Mars!
Throughout Natalie’s Ph.D. and post-doc years, she traveled the world, spent a few months as a volcanologist at an active volcano, and worked at the world-famous NASA laboratories at the Johnson Space Center.
After leaving the lab bench Natalie wrote two popular science books about her favorite topics, space rocks, and volcanoes: Catching Stardust and Fire & Ice.
While living in California she moved into podcasting, working with Neil deGrasse Tyson as a host on StarTalk radio. She appeared on stage on Broadway debating whether Pluto is a planet or not. She was also invited to write the script for a new space show at the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, which was narrated by Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o.
In her spare time, Natalie swims with a Masters club in Cambridge but, more often, she walks her two dogs, Charlie and Juno, through muddy fields in the English countryside.
