In JMP, how can I categorize continuous variables by specifying conditions, such as "20s" for ages 20-29 and "30s" for ages 30-39?To categorize data by specifying conditions in JMP, use the If and Match functions. See the examples below.
- Click "Column" → "New Column" on the menu bar. Enter the column name and change the data type field to "Character" (at this time, the "Scale" field will automatically change to nominal scale). Then click the "Column Properties" button and select "Formula."
- In the Formula Editor that appears, select Conditional from the list of function groups, and then select If from the pop-up menu that appears.

- The bottom half of the area displays a formula template, where you can enter the conditional expression (in this example, we're using items from the "Comparison" function group). To enter a new condition, click the Insert (^) button on the keypad twice.

- After setting the conditional expression, select OK, and then click OK to close the "Create New Column" dialog.
In the Columns menu[Create categorization formula]You can also use the function.
