My name is Shinji Tochihara, and I work in the Product Development Department of the Research and Development Headquarters at KM Biologics Co., Ltd., headquartered in Kumamoto City. I am in charge of basic statistical workshops for people new to statistics within the company. After graduating from Kyushu University Graduate School (Master's course in Agriculture), I joined the Chemo-Sero-Therapeutic Research Institute (now KM Biologics Co., Ltd.), where I was involved in the development of manufacturing and quality control methods for genetically modified drugs in my 30s, and in the clinical development of pediatric vaccines in my 40s and beyond. After retiring at age 60 in 2020, I used the re-employment system to start a statistical workshop within the company. In this workshop, we use the JMP e-learning program "Statistical Thinking for Problem Solving in Manufacturing (STIPS)" as the main teaching material for people new to statistics (people who can calculate arithmetic means). At the JMP Discovery Summit Japan 2024 to be held in November 2024, I plan to give an oral presentation titled "An initiative for a statistical workshop for people new to statistics using "STIPS" as a teaching material."
