Welcome to the JMP Development Update for January 10, 2025!
We’re nearly to our Feature Freeze date for JMP 19, planned for 1/17/25. Just a reminder that specific features that are not complete by next Friday need to be documented on the JMP 19 late features page in Confluence. There is also a link to the Late Features page in the 1/17/25 calendar reminder that Melanie sent out about Feature Freeze and EA6 Freeze.
Thanks to those of you who have been updating your feature pages for EA6 and creating EA videos! Remember that feature pages should reflect the current state of the feature, so please remove old or outdated content that is no longer valid. Also, please add links to Jiras, examples, screenshots and JSL where it makes sense. In addition to providing content that alerts EA customers about items that are ready to test in JMP 19, feature pages are also used in development of content for training global technical staff. In short, the information you provide is invaluable for many downstream teams.
In maintenance release news, an important fix for a numeric bug was approved for inclusion in JMP 18.2 this week. Otherwise, the 18.2 track is now frozen for JMP source code fixes. If any showstopper bugs surface before final installer candidate creation that cannot wait for 18.2.1, please consult your manager and if they agree, request approval using the standard process. If anyone on the JMP Approvers list objects to a late fix, we can meet to discuss the request in further detail.
Security champions will continue to make third party library updates in the 18.2 track until we reach our security freeze date. Meanwhile, 18.2 verifications continue and the Doc team is working to generate localized help from newly translated book content. Once 18.2 work is complete, we will create and test final installer candidates, allowing us to continue on our current cadence of delivering security fixes to customers about every two months.
Finally, with security reviews for 18.1.2 now complete, Audrey’s teams have begun the process of vetting our final installer candidates for JMP 18.1.2. So far, testing is going well with no known showstoppers. If that trend continues, we anticipate QA signoff next week, soon to be followed by other required signoffs and upload to MyJMP.
Thanks very much to Tonya Mauldin for sharing the beta/crash report for 12/13/24-1/10/25. Crashes have been selected. (Although JMP was shut down between Christmas and New Years, I’ve heard a rumor that some of our more enthusiastic EA customers worked over the break. :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes: )

JMP Development Updates
Life Sciences Updates
- Wenjun: Wenjun and Russ hosted Dr. Leming Shi (Fudan University) and Dr. Wendell Jones (Iqvia) at JMP this Thursday. We have been working with them for about 20 years on different MAQC-related omics projects. Leming was impressed at how JMP can quickly and interactively evaluate the quality of data generated by a new platform. Both Leming and Wendell were very pleased when John Sall stopped by the conference room to talk to them. They loved our JMP signs!

- Drew: Completed last JMP Clinical 18.2 to 18.1.2 integrations and confirmed 18.1.2 JMP Clinical installer is ready for final build candidacy. Finalized configuration and code changes to address 6 false-positive security vulnerabilities in JMP Clinical as reported by Jenkins Snyk nightly scan. Pushed JMP Clinical feature and bug Jiras.
Product Management and Product Marketing
- Bryan: Developed multiple Control Chart Triaging prototypes to address a user concern about “green warnings” that appear in JMP Live control charts (thanks goes to Annie, Aurora, Dieter, Michael G., and Praveena for their feedback and review). Updated JSS for JMP Live theme to target launchers (thanks goes to Evan McCorkle for his review and insights!). Coordinated with SAS procurement to have a new supplier added to the supplier database and contacted potential icon suppliers on Fiverr. Working on icons to distinguish the EA version from regular JMP installs.
- Kaylee: We just posted an article on Inside JMP giving an update on the JMP Marketplace and the featured extension for the month, Torch Deep Learning for JMP Pro. This update has social resources, and updates on the new marketplace features.
- Dan: As of this week, we’ve surpassed all of our goals for Phase I (2024) of the JMP Marketplace. We were a few days late on the number of extensions but far exceeded our goals for downloads and views. As a reminder, you can see the goals for Phase II and III as well as the planned rollout of the marketplace in 2025, on the Sales Sheet here.
Technical Support and Engagement
- Wendy: Happy 2025! The Winter Break was smooth for Tech Support and Engagement. Next week, we look forward to gathering with all of User Enablement for our annual planning sessions. As we are spread across different locations, it is a great opportunity to reconnect, catch up, and collaborate as a division.
- Below are the usual graphs for case volume as well as topics for both Tech Support and Engagement. Here are the TS JMP Live reports and the link to the Jira filter showing the tickets reported by Support for the last 14 days.

- General Tasks: Rebooting my brain after 2 weeks off.
Catching up with projects and planning work for the new year.
- 18.2.1: Working on branching task management. Refining tasks for TestBot setup with Myron, Jim Borek, and Shannon Conners; working with Audrey on ensuring copyrights are updated and moving validation back from installer testing to earlier in the cycle; looking at ways to script validating copyrights in JSL scripts (samples, builtins). JMPTOOL-1449: Create a script to verify copyright info in sample scripts (product/samples/scripts) and builtins (source/Builtins)
- Daily UTs: Monitoring recent connection problems and new parallel runs.
- Jira: Added a new hidden field to enable creating multiple Jiras from a csv file that includes Smart Checklist items. Nobody should notice anything.
- Jim: A lot of Perforce support for various reasons. JMP 18.1.2 Final Image Candidates were built for WinOS and mac OS and Jenkins processes were disabled for said release. Assertion failures were reported from 1900Win1064_D results. Much hand-holding for several UT runs.
Localization

Also, Col properties can now be added with the tags, so much testing happening with that:

Also, Tabulate is taking on changes in the Page area with MR, and Change Formats too. New work is still coming on the Filter View, which will move to the bottom left-hand corner where the Rows panel is located. Stay tuned to 19 changes! Also received some TS track feedback and worked through that. Next week, will continue to test these areas and think about an updated EA video about Tags/Column properties.

Updated SceneBox to use the base class background color rather than a private property. Helped with an issue running JMP Clinical in languages other than English. Added option to show all boxes in the property panel. Initial work to add a watermark for EA mode builds. Continuing work on Group Platform for FDE and updates to Data Filter search behaviors.
- Dave B: Fixed a few problems with text alignment in NumberEditBoxes. Updated table box “make combined data table” so that table box columns that are present but hidden don’t prevent matches. Updating add-in builder’s additional files panel to use a tree control. Looked at an odd drag/drop crash report but did not see much to go on. Updated jmprunner so it will copy files in a secondary thread when there are a lot of image diffs (they were skipped for a while because of network performance issues).

JMP Live
- Aurora: Control chart warning improvements (determination of pre-19 report on client, complain explicitly about bad JSON in triage notes, make triage status in CSV files match the UI, do not create markers during 19 upgrade, single notification for multi-warning triage). Updated a third-party package. Created article "How to run a previous version of JMP Live locally".

- Tonya: Working on beta reporting and updating unit tests due to Annie’s recent sorting changes in CCB.
Note from Shannon
The snow was pretty in Cary for a while, but we’ve also had periods of sleet where I am in west Cary. Fingers crossed that we’ll get more of the fluffy stuff than the icy stuff soon! Stay safe if you need to travel this weekend, and if you’re staying put, hopefully you got to the bread and milk before the shelves were cleaned out. And if you need a laugh on that topic, here’s a Green Day parody by local YouTubers the Holderness family - and a silly meme too. Have a great weekend!
