Welcome to the JMP Development Update for December 20, 2024!
Now that we are close to wrapping up both 18.1.2 and 18.2, please review your list of fixed items and mark the Release notes affected field for 18.1.2 and 18.2 with No or Yes. You can also add draft text to the Jira issue that a writer can use as a starting point for a note describing the change. This is very helpful to the doc team in identifying issues that should go in the notes!
Product management has notified early adopters about the availability of the JMP/JMP Pro 19 EA5 release. We’re looking forward to hearing from customers about our latest round of updates to JMP, JMP Pro and JMP Clinical! As a reminder, any JMP 18 user can participate in the EA program. Users can request access at jmp.com/earlyadopter. If you have a feature in EA5 that is ready for extra feedback and/or EA member testing, please reach out to product management!
Thanks very much to John Sall for presenting at this week’s JMP Dev meeting on the addition of environmental monitoring features to process screening in JMP 19! If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here. John has been working closely with new product manager Valerie Nedbal and JMP customer Michelle Ricci to refine these new additions, which are present in JMP 18 EA5. If you have customers working in this area that you think would be willing to give good feedback, please see the EA program details in the paragraph above.

Development Operations
- Melanie:

- 18.2.1: Created the 18.2.1 Release for JMP and DevOps Jira projects. Note these are not open for use until after 18.2 is completed.
- Daily UTs: Continuing to monitor new parallel runs for daily unit tests. Added Text Finder and Java Disconnect errors to the console log collection script.
- Stringbot: Looking at a UTF-8 encoding issue with Myron, Michael Hecht, and others. (JMPTOOL-1438). Turned off Stringbot 19.0 for the next 2 holiday weeks; Shannon L will turn them back on for the Saturday Jan 4 run. Stringbot 18.2 will run once this weekend to collect strings for localization tracking, and I’ll turn that job off permanently Monday Dec 23.
- Documentation/Localization Tools: Trying (and failing so far) to get the MIF-PDF jobs to run cleanly on the new Windows 11 VM (the dreaded “font not found” problem) (JMPDOC-2286). Planning work for automating JMPLive Help deployment for 19.0.
- Miscellaneous DevOps Tasks: Confirmed with SAS and JMP legal that we should continue putting the JMP copyright statement on JMP’s splash screen. Monitoring many automated jobs. Planning for end of release task management (the mirror of our branching tasks to start a release).
- Jim: JMP 19.0 UT script updates to remove pyarrow and pyRserve module installation (thanks to Nick Ruva for updating the WS2019 AMI); reported new ASAN and assertion failures and verified others for JMP Pro 19; Perforce support. Integrated a fix for JMP Clinical into into both 18.2 and 18.1.2.
Localization
- Allison: Handed off 18.1 localized add-ins to QA for validation, communicated about findings and made updates to the add-ins; submitted request to upload updated add-ins to Marketplace so QA and validate the updates; processed vendor invoices for payment; looked into queries from translators for 19.0 Portable UI strings.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Worked mostly on JIRA verifications and writing some tests. Trying out some of the new Data table changes. Assisted a few JMP folks with issues they were hitting in JMP 19 and reported JIRAs. Answered a few TS tracks from JMP19EA4 folks. Hoping to finish up some workflow builder clean up, file issues, and maybe write a few tests to add to the Framework if time permits before the holidays.
- Audrey: It was great to see people in person during some holiday lunches and Dirty Santa! This week I have been doing Atlassian Help Desk items, working on a schedule with our China team for Q1, looking at Dynamic Transforms a little bit, and brainstorming with my team about how to improve the end-of-release installer testing effort.
- Nick H: Worked on a late 18.2 verification related to Dispatch indexes being incorrect when ifboxes were in the report. Been very busy with late EA4 feedback which has resulted in a number of new Jiras around the script editor and column grouping. Planning to work with Mandy going forward to automate some of our installer testing using workflows!
Web Testing – Cary
- Natalie: Only a partial work week for me. Lots of end of the year tasks. Collaboration with Steve on some major automation framework updates that he has been working on. These were merged this week. His changes along with a UI change from Paul caused diffs in our HTML image benchmarks. These are now updated, and our daily runs are much cleaner. Continued with new test coverage for Fit to Window.
System/Host Testing-Beijing
Core
- Dave B: Pushed first pass and automatic updating for jmp add ins, worked on a pdf import crash, added jsl options to suppress install prompt for jmp add ins, worked with tech support on a font problem with pdf generation, and fixed a scatterplot 3d crash when drawing text.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Finished converting one and two sample power explorers for means, proportions, and variances into C++. I also converted the one sample interval explorers for the same quantities and hope to convert the two sample versions before the holidays.
- Irene: Investigating a few more Jira tickets; created a prototype for fault localization user interface with Joseph; setting up a usability study to test the interface.
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl: Dark mode changes are wrapping up and I am entering individual jiras for remaining known host issues. Give it a try it so we can find any color issues in your platform. Updated to the latest version of the WebView control and SDK. Fixed a transcoding bug with SAS data import. Crash investigations including one involving text selection handling in the edit field. This is a WPF bug for which we're trying to find a workaround (JMP-24207). Reviewed a number of GCanvas updates and had DirectWrite discussion with Evan. Added three.js info to our credits file.
- Will: Created an additional connector for the OneDrive and SharePoint connectors add-in to access file libraries available on SharePoint sites. I am also doing more testing on the data connector editor improvements.
- Paul N: Completed updates of Python 3.11.11 in JMP 18.2 and Python 3.13.1 in JMP 19.0.
Interactive HTML
- John Powell: Committed code to draw spheres and clip content outside the box for Interactive HTML Scatterplot 3D(JMPHTML-14274, JMPHTML-14275). Q4 Check-ins. Whitebox testing.
Statistics
- Elizabeth: Fixed a couple of issues in K-Means clustering reported by Ono-san for the team in Japan. Two of them are due to the algorithm not converging rather than a numerical issue, so we’ve added a message to the report to indicate non-convergence (rather than the user needing to notice that the Criterion is non-zero) – JMP-24179 and JMP-24177. The other was a numeric bug where the offset was not being added to the saved formula properly – JMP-24178. Fixed a crash in Mixed & GLMM with the sandwich standard errors also reported by Ono-san – JMP-24155.
- Laura C-S: Made several UI improvements for the SEM report when using the new MIIV-2SLS estimator—results are more concise and clearer. Continued working on JMP-SEM examples for Bollen’s upcoming book. Fixed bugs with the Generate R Code feature and with the zoom box for the diagram. Added two new menu items to the Model Shortcuts in SEM and wrote a feature page for them.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Updated Standard Least Squares chapter for content changes made recently in the Scripting Index; reviewed resumes for summer internship position; completed Q4 conversations for team.
Stat Testing
- Jacob: Testing DOE fixes in 19 that were granted approval for 18.2
- Verifying Jira tickets and adding unit tests. Preparing presentation for Stat Dev group on latest Easy DOE usability study results, with Mark Bailey. Completing final check of OC Curves in 18.2, based on covering arrays to guide interactive testing.
- Mark: We met with the patent attorneys to discuss how to respond to the points of rejection regarding the usability of the study tool. I worked with Chris on a new add-in that emulates the newer IndPenSim 2 simulation.
Life Sciences Updates
- Drew: Finalized last integrations to 18.1.2/18.2. Updated product level security review (PLSR) Jira as liaison for JMP Clinical. Finishing the RTF Table generator add-in.
Note from Shannon
Thanks to Audrey Shull for sharing this amusing item! I imagine most of NC is likely out of luck for a white Christmas, but perhaps some of you are traveling or live in snowier areas that have a better chance. Hope you have a fantastic and restful break! :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:
