Welcome to the JMP Development Update for December 13, 2024!
JMP 18.2 is planned to freeze next Friday, 12/20/24. We have had a handful of approval requests so far this week but work in this track seems largely wrapped up! Please continue to triage your lists of items with planned version = 18.2 and remove 18.2 if you know you’re not going to get to that item for this release. We’ll have an 18.2.1 and 18.2.2 for third party security fixes and any showstoppers that surface after 18.2 approval mode is over.
JMP 19 EA5 was built and rebuilt earlier in the week and testing of the installer candidates looks good so far. QA plans to sign off early next week if all goes well. Thank you for all the updates to feature pages! Customers will have plenty to test, and we’ll be creating a set of JMP 19 EA6 installers in mid-January where additional features will be highlighted.
Thanks to Xan Gregg for presenting at this week’s JMP dev meeting on work he’s been doing in JMP 19 with dynamic transform columns (aka “comfy transforms” :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:) and the much-requested line/arrow graphs. If you missed the meeting, you can find a recording here. Also, at last week’s meeting, Paul Spychala presented on JMP Live Profilers and Fit to Window. If you missed the meeting, you can find the recording here showing how the interactive HTML team continues to add support for profilers and improve performance for JMP 19!
John Sall has offered to demo JMP 19 updates to support environmental monitoring analysis in Process Screening at next week’s meeting. If you’d like to do a dev demo in the new year, please sign up on the JMP Dev Volunteer schedule here.
Thanks to Shannon Leslie for sharing the latest Atlassian news! You can contact her or any of the other JMP Atlassian admins with questions. Also check out our JMP Atlassian Q&A Teams channel, where this and other Atlassian information will continue to be shared.
On December 10, Atlassian rolled out changes to our Jira and Confluence Cloud sites. A list of relevant changes along with highlighted details and documentation can be found here.
The changes include:
- New API tokens will now have a one-year expiry
- Jira issue menu changes for linking issues, adding attachments, and getting to marketplace apps
- Calculations as well as numbered entries added to Confluence databases!
- New toolbar for bulk actions in the backlog or issue list
- and more!
Thanks also to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s Beta/Crash cases with crashes selected!

System/Host Testing-Beijing
Core
- Dan S: JMP 19 updates for axis scripting to ensure that increment & interval are saved together. Worked with Evan on a fix for SendToReport in both 18.2 and 19. Integrated fix for Group Platform (By) for Partition and some other Fit platforms. Looking at scripting options for FDE multiple-Y, and continuing to work on Data Filter search updates.
- Ernest: Continuing work on refactoring column property editing and handling. One goal is to make properties non-modifiable outside of a tightly controlled process, so I’ve made many changes throughout the codebase. Let me know if you have questions or if I have broken anything.
- Evan: Delivered new column filtering for the Data Table in EA5. New properties for Splitter Box styling. More investigation of DirectWrite and Gdi+ interop.
- Morgan: Fixed some bugs with Notebooks, code folding, and script editor preferences, and did some work on a “Go To Definition” edit command in script editor.
- Xan: EA5 videos and dynamic transform columns.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Finalized work on converting the one sample interval explorers (mean, proportions, and variance) as well as some additional work on the two sample explorers (almost ready to show!). I also attended a special 75th anniversary conference for the Virginia Tech statistics department. Lots of good talks and discussion about the future of statistics. And lots of highlights of JMP as well!
Hosting and Interfaces
- Will: Developed an additional data connector to be bundled with the OneDrive data connector that grants users access to their SharePoint site list data. This was a direct request from a customer at Discovery. Got the SharePoint and OneDrive add-in ready for EA5 and deployment on the JMP Marketplace. Minor updates to the Data Connector editor UI for a better user experience.
- John Schroedl: Further UI modernization and dark mode fixes. One notable change is the addition of the window icon as an overlay on data table thumbnails. Fixed an issue where it was possible to have a tooltip shown for a recently-closed window. Fixed the background of our auto-hide menu area. Splash screen updates for copyright dates.
- Paul N: Security update of JMP 18.2 Python to 3.11.11 on macOS and Windows. Security update of JMP 19.0 libcurl to version 8.11.1, Security update was released 11 Dec 2024.
Interactive HTML
- John Powell:
- Created a 3rd party software update request to update three.js to a version (r148, Thanks Michael G.) that supported InstancedMesh and doesn’t trigger a security exception on JMP Live (JMPHTML-14258).
- Tested Interactive HTML Scatterplot 3D code for compatibility with version r148 of three.js and updated code to fix all issues found.
- Worked on implementing local clipping (clipping some 3D objects but not all) for Interactive HTML version of Scatterplot 3D (JMPHTML-14275).
- Worked with Praveena on supporting many-to-one marker selection in Alarm Graphs in the Interactive HTML version of Process Screening platform.
- Helped Elise Batchev with a graph using Needle bar style and Cumulative Sum statistic that is not interactive on JMP Live.
- Paul Spychala: I have been working on Fit to Window issues and also added the ability to turn the feature on or off via a menu item inside HTML/JMPLive (JMPHTML-14219).
JMP Live
- Aurora: Control chart warning improvements (conducted a usability study with Mia Stephens, presented during JMP Live iteration demo, project update to development managers and Dieter, sent updates for Invention Disclosure Form to Dwight Thompson, minor refactoring, investigation of edge cases and performance). Upgraded a third-party package.
Statistics
- Elizabeth: Implemented an option within Mixed and GLMM to allow users to change to containment degrees of freedom (the SAS PROC default) from Kenward-Roger DFs (the JMP mixed models default) – JMP-23504. This option isn’t recommended, as it’s been shown that KR provides better Type I error control, etc, but there are a couple use cases from JMP users that make it useful. In checking all of the report options that had to be updated for the change of DFs, found a couple other bugs that are actually long-standing, but probably (hopefully!!) not common. Fixed one of those already related to the conditional profilers and DOE generated blocking terms – JMP-24103.
- Laura C-S: Fixed two bugs with the new specific indirect effects feature and made a feature page for it. Circled back to the new MIIV-2SLS estimator, as I made UI changes recommended by Ken Bollen. Worked on SPSP workshop with Haley.
- John Sall: Continued work in Process Screening for Environmental Monitoring (JMP-23533, JMP-24030).
Stat Documentation
- Karen: Worked on updating some older material in the distribution chapter.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Explored how Easy DOE supports Workflow Builder with Jacob. I prepared a presentation about the most recent usability study for Easy DOE for JMP Stat Dev with Jacob. I am building an add-in that emulates the IndPenSim 2 simulator to support Bayesian optimization development.
- Jacob: Adding tests for DSDs in Design Explorer, focusing on cases with categorical factors. Testing Easy DOE, investigating with Mark Bailey how DOE platforms are supported with Workflow Builder. Verifying Jira tickets
Preparing Easy DOE usability study results presentation with Mark Bailey.
- Tonya: Working on updating CCB unit tests due to Annie’s recent sorting changes.
Life Sciences Updates
- Drew: Lots of bug fixing and triaging and getting 18.1.2 and 18.2 wrapped up!
Note from Shannon
It was nice to see so many Cary colleagues at the JMP Winter potluck Wednesday! I enjoyed the coffee cart and trying so many (way too many!) of your delicious creations and treats. Thanks very much to Robin Betters, Beth Evans, and all the other organizers and helpers. Hope you all have a great weekend!
