Welcome to the JMP Development Update for December 6, 2024!
A reminder that Code Approval mode for JMP 18.2 starts at the end of the day today and ends with JMP 18.2 Code Freeze on 12/20/24. Please set the Release Notes Affected field to yes for any 18.2 Jira issues that should be documented in the Release Notes. Also, please check over your open Jira issues where planned version includes 18.2 and remove 18.2 if you know you’re definitely not going to address an item for this release! Of course, we will be having JMP 18.2.1 and JMP 18.2.2 releases largely focused on third party security fixes, but these dot-dot releases also allow us the flexibility to address critical issues if any surface after 18.2 is finalized.
At the end of the day today, we are freezing code for JMP 19 EA5. We will also have a post-holiday JMP 19 EA6 planned to freeze on 1/17/25. Please continue to update your feature pages so that product management can share details with our customers about new and enhanced features that are ready to test for specific EAs!
As we head towards JMP 19 feature freeze at the end of January, please also be aware that the deadline for requesting new sample data tables for JMP 19 is 3/14/24. Please be thinking about which sample data table in our existing library could be used for documentation examples and SE training material for your new features.
If you find that JMP sample data does not currently have a good example table for a particular new feature, please help us identify new tables that could be added to better show it off. Hyde Miller has kindly created this page in Confluence to track tables that he plans to use to highlight selected JMP 19 features in internal technical training materials. Please review this page, the tables already listed in it and add further details if you have them. Thanks very much for your help with this project! Details about the process for requesting a new sample data table can be found here in Confluence.
Thanks to Audrey Shull for sharing the following info:

JMP Development Updates
Interactive HTML
- John Powell: Investigating rendering spheres with an InstancedMesh to support JMP’s customizable lighting in Interactive HTML’s Scatterplot 3D:

JMP Live
- Aurora: Control chart warning improvements (fixed some bugs, investigated performance at scale, compiled list of things to seek PM input on, various meetings). Upgraded a few third-party packages. Completed an 18 and a 19 version of GraphQL-based "insight" or "introspection" report, documented our options, and discussed with Scott Allen.
- Adrianna: Working on a mechanism for admins to upload JMP add-ins in the JMP Live UI to be installed across their pools.
Statistics
- Annie: This week, after many weeks of work on new sorting for CCB (JMP-8247), I finally flipped the bit to turn it off by default, which changes most CCB output. The output now matches (or at least it’s intended to) match both the Legacy Control Charts and Process Screening. Now I am working with groups, including HTML5, JMP Live, and testing to assess the consequences of the big change. And, I’ve been working on fixing new issues arising from the change. I’m thankful for switching it off now, while there’s time to work through the changes.
- John Sall: In Categorical, show totals on top of crosstab with a range if the totals are unequal below (JMP-23926), and Highlight Cells now supports comparisons with "Cell Chisq PValue" (JMP-23940), and fixed a grey-tone bug for comparison lines (JMP-23939). In Process Screening - draft implementation of handling count data, intended for Environmental Monitoring applications (JMP-23533).
- Laura C-S: Continued working on specific indirect effects and pushed most of the work to main, though there are still some issues to work out. Fixed a crash that Haley and James found in 18.2. Continued working on SPSP workshop with Haley.
Stat Documentation
- Michael C: Completed the final training course in the 10-month Manager Journey program for new managers. Finished making updates to the SI entries for Fit Least Squares, which the last platform that Colleen and I had targeted for updates in the 19.0 cycle. Prepped books for EA 5 help build. Reviewed new strings in 19.0 in preparation for the first string handoff of the cycle.
Stat Testing
- Mark: Fixed unit test failures of the Data Entry tab in Easy DOE after UI changes broke display box references. Prepared a presentation of the Easy DOE usability study at the JMP Lab for an upcoming JMP Stat Dev meeting with Jacob. Worked with Chris to identify potential factors derived from the large public data set created with the IndPenSim 2 simulator. A model was selected for the emulator. I am making an add-in for the emulator to support activities with the new Bayesian Optimization platform.
- Tonya: Testing the new sorting options in CCB and rewriting CCB unit tests.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: It’s been a busy week with data table changes, TS tracks and the like.
- The data grid has changed a bit more for EA5 – Evan added the icons you see for filter, hide, and data grid refresh – Hide will hide columns in columns panel and grid, and tags can be selected to show with the data refresh button: and at the bottom you see, “showing 15 of 39” so you know some columns are not showing up. Hope we get good feedback on this:

- You can also save filtered tables now in the data table so maybe users will play with that a bit more; On TS tracks I got some issues from Holgar and filed JIRA’s, and I was able to also verify and solve some JIRA’s, but now I’m behind again and need to jump back on verifying those and adding tests where needed again; Finishing up goals for the end of the year too – running out of time!!
- Andrew changed a few things with Tabulate one of which is if you show tooltips you get a bit of a different tooltip in the Chart now – check it out!

- Audrey: Facilitated some early testing for AspenTech (thanks Michael H for the demo and Mike Wu for trying it out). Examining what happens when a nightly unit test times out on Mac, hoping to optimize the framework. Very happy to see some successful side-by-side unit test runs (parallelized instead of serial) – thanks Nick Ruva!
- Hunter: Responded to JMP 19 EA 4 cases, JIRA verifications with JMP Student Edition (features, authorization, and running while offline), reviewed localized PDF files, and updated the Sequoia Beta host testing Macs in the lab with the 15.2 release candidate build and ran baseline tests to check performance.
Web Testing – Cary
- Josh L: Windows Server 2025 Setup: Successfully created a Windows Server 2025 instance in AWS. Installer Validation: Tested the JMP Live 18.1.2, 18.2.0, and 19.0 installers on the new 2025 server. Release Testing Preparation: Made progress on the JMP Live 18.1.2 Release Testing Matrix. Deployment Review: Reviewed current JMP Live customer deployments to ensure proper installation coverage.
System/Host Testing-Beijing
Core
- Dan S: Fixes for Data Filter with localized column names. Removed the Legacy menu under Graph (Chart/Overlay Plot/Treemap) - interactive use of these launchers defaulted to Graph Builder, and old scripts are still redirected to Graph Builder. Working with Ryan Parker on some launch/filter changes for Functional Data Explorer. Working on updates to the categorical level search in the data filter.
- Xan: Third generation of dynamic transforms – now as “Scope To” option in transforms right-click menu. Videos for EA5.
DOE and Reliability
- Caleb: Began work on converting the one sample interval explorers into C++. Also preparing for a special dept anniversary conference at Virgnia Tech next week.
Hosting and Interfaces
- John Schroedl: Drag and drop updates: Position the drag feedback window using the drag offset. More dark mode fit & finish work before today's EA build including: control drawing/printing fixes, menu icon fixes, hyperlink (JSysLinkText) colors now use themed values, drag feedback readable in dark mode. Fixed DPI on some icons. Added code to handle a .NET InvalidOperationException we've seen from a couple of EA submissions when opening dialogs. We still can't recreate the issue but should avoid the crash now. Added text message in home window recent file list when the list is filtered. Project updates to help Jim with the effort to build our shell extensions nightly.
- Paul N: Update of JMP 19 to Python 3.13.0. Started process to update JMP 18.2 to Python 3.11.11,and beginning process to update JMP 19 to 3.13.1. Both updates became available on Tuesday Dec 3.
