Welcome to the JMP Development Update for November 15, 2024!
As of this afternoon, JMP QA is signed off for JMP 18.1.1 for JMP, JMP Pro, JMP Clinical and JMP Live. Thank you to all the many people involved in the creation and testing of this release! Installers will be released in MyJMP by next Tuesday, 11/19. As a reminder, the primary focus of JMP “dot-dot” releases is to update third party libraries to resolve known security vulnerabilities. A secondary focus is to resolve critically important bugs in source code, especially items that may hold up deployment of JMP at important customer sites. In the JMP 18.1.1 cycle, we resolved 18 Jira issues across various projects. Release notes for 18.1.1 are posted on jmp.com.
JMP 19 EA4 was released to customers in MyJMP earlier this week. If you know customers who are not currently in the program but would be willing to provide feedback on new features, please send them to jmp.com/earlyadopter to sign up for the program. EA5 will be coming up very soon – it’s currently planned to freeze on 12/6. Now is a good time to triage your remaining Jira issues and remove 19.0 from Planned version for any items that you know you will not work on in this feature cycle. Also, please make sure that work you do intend to complete in JMP 19 is represented in Jira. And if you have new features that you’ll want tested in upcoming EAs that don’t have feature pages yet, please add them under the JMP 19 features section using the instructions on this how-to page.
Speaking of JMP 19, JMP Clinical developer Richard Zink presented recent work at this week’s JMP Dev meeting. Richard showed a very cool interactive version of a survival report that leveraged lots of JMP functionality to fulfill a customer wish. If you missed the meeting, you can find the recording here.
Thanks to Shannon Leslie for sharing the most recent Atlassian news:
On November 12, Atlassian rolled out changes to our Jira and Confluence Cloud sites. A list of relevant changes along with highlighted details and documentation can be found here.
The changes include:
- Confluence folders have been added for better organization
- Jira issues can be created directly in your Jira project calendar
In addition, next week the Atlassian admin team will be rolling out a configuration change to many Jira projects: editing issue Resolution on closed issues! See details here. (ß This was highly requested by those of us who frequently have to reopen items to change resolution values! :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:)
Contact Shannon Leslie or any of the other JMP Atlassian admins with questions.
Thanks to Tonya Mauldin for sharing this week’s beta/crash report with crashes selected!

General Announcements
- As the holiday season approaches, SAS is again partnering with the Salvation Army for their Angel Tree program! Thanks to Mandy Chambers for sharing the following details:
- This year, we’ve raised our commitment to a new milestone, sponsoring 400 children in need, aiming to make their holidays brighter, warmer, and filled with joy. The Angel Tree program is one of those initiatives that reminds us of the power of community and kindness. Each sponsored “angel” represents a child who might otherwise face a holiday without the joy and warmth many of us are fortunate to experience. By participating, you’ll be helping to create lasting memories and ensure that these children have a reason to smile this holiday season.
- If you want to make a child’s holiday merry and bright, please fill out this form to request an angel(s). Angel Tree gift drop-off will be one day only: Giving Tuesday (Dec. 3) from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the loading dock between LX and LW.
- If you have any questions or are a remote employee eager to join in, please contact Judi Rourke or Lenora Tickle. Judi can also help remote employees participate and make this holiday season unforgettable for all our sponsored angels. Thank you for your continued generosity and for making this season memorable for so many.
- Please visit the Dev update section on Inside JMP to see past updates.
- Please reach out to me or Beth Evans if you’d like to be added to the JMP Dev list to receive future copies of the update via email as well as future JMP Dev meeting invites.

JMP Development Updates
Statistics
- John Sall:
- In Process Screening, use new "Sort by Subgroup(0)" feature when launching Control Chart Builder (JMP-22702). This eliminates the need to generate a new subgrouping column when not sorting by subgroup.
- In the Profiler, add a command "Optimization Control Panel" to make all the optimization controls easier, more accessible. (JMP-23768) The plan was adapted from customer requests, Sam Gardner's proposal, product management discussions, and Chris Gotwalt's roadmap presentation. Laura Lancaster will be finishing the Factor constraints tab.

System/Host Testing-Cary
- Mandy: Finished 18.1.1 installer testing. Followed up on a TS tracks and opened necessary JIRA’s even though we could not replicate the crashes. Volunteered to test the new VPN, Global Protect and recruited others in JMP to join me, as they only had one person testing it out – so far it is working pretty well for about 3 days from my Mac – I did see a comment from a windows person that Outlook would not load. Found an odd JSL Framework crash with columns manager, and was able after many attempts to find a reliable way to reproduce it on the Mac running a series of tests at least 3 times – opened a JIRA issue. Verifying JIRAs, data table fixes, tabulate crashes, etc. Testing Ernest’s value Label fixes at 18.2 and 19.0 – this will work with Tags, but have not gotten into how exactly yet. Starting yesterday and today to get some JMP19EA4 tracks to report issues.
- Hunter: Completed JMP 18.1.1 installer testing. Reviewed the JMP 18.2 menu description cards for Mac and Windows for Qiana. Tested the 24w49 SAS Download Manager 3.12 on several Mac configurations for the SAS 9 Deployment group. Investigated and opened issue with JMP terminating on Windows when opening specific project file from remote shared folder.
- Audrey: EA4 finalizing, 18.1.1 Testing, updating automated jobs to account for the new 18.1.2 branch (and debugging a few things that didn’t go right the first time), and playing with the new VPN from SAS called GlobalProtect (it works pretty well!).

Simplified focus for TabPage, which has logic to ensure that focus is never on a hidden tab. Added ability to open/edit JSS files on Windows. Fixed Journal crash related to ScriptableContainerBox. Also updated SI examples for new ScriptableContainerBox and fixed related issue with platform LRT Save Script menu.
- Dave B: Worked with tech support on a drag/drop issue that looks like it was probably caused by memory being freed twice. Fixed a bug that prevented an add-in that used a dll from being updated. Fixed a bug that caused extra space in an image copied from a report. Add-in builder work.
Reproduced a couple of crashes that were sent in.
- Evan: Working on some Data Table Column Tool filtering improvements: a list footer indicating filtering has occurred. The ability to filter hidden columns from the list (in addition to grid). Ability to show only filtered columns in the grid.
- Xan: Working on arrow charts in Graph Builder.
DOE and Reliability

Updated to latest Telerik source. Enrolled in GlobalProtect VPN pilot group as we did not have a JMP representative primarily using Windows. Help with Windows project changes and other code reviews.
- Paul: Work on updating Python to 3.13.0 for JMP 19. Successful configuration on macOS and Windows, testing configuration to minimize footprint.
Interactive HTML
JMP Live

Investigated performance issue with excessive data dependency. Created first draft of JMP Live Considerations for JMP Developers. Filed Jiras related to Evan McCorkle's feedback on the user experience of failed regeneration reports - thanks Evan! If you are troubled (or delighted?) by anything you see in JMP Live, don't be shy - we want to know.
