On Earth Day and every day, JMP works to measure and mitigate our impact on the world. And as we move further into 2022 and beyond, we plan to work more closely with our customer companies to help them to use JMP for their environmental efforts as well. Check out our Data for Green program at jmp.com/green to see what we have in mind. That Data for Green web page is a great thing to show the world. But keep reading here if you’d like the inside scoop on our Green House Gas inventory.
Under the guidance of our consultant Josh Prigge of Sustridge, we’ve been collecting and organizing data related to our emissions across the organization – that’s our Greenhouse Gas inventory. We’ve been working on this since late 2021, and the scope and detail of the required data has been surprising, and somewhat daunting. The full list of data we’re collecting is too long to share here,
but here are some highlights:
" style="width: 400px;">
<a href="https://community.jmp.com/t5/JMP-Sales-and-Marketing-Library/Social-Media-Library/ta-p/378667"</a>" />
- At each of the many JMP offices across the globe
- What amount of space is occupied by JMP employees, by absolute square footage and percentage
- In tons, what materials are recycled, composted, incinerated and sent to the landfill
- Total heating fuel used
- Electricity consumed
- Weight of all goods purchased by JMP, where they were shipped from and mode of transportation
- For business travel, what are the total miles traveled by air, rental car, taxi or rideshare, rail and bus
- For employee commuting, how many miles were traveled, and by what mode of transportation.
Unsurprisingly some of this data is very difficult to obtain. For data that we cannot get, proxy data or an estimate will be used. Although missing data does impact the accuracy of our emissions estimates, the good news is that we are identifying the areas that need improvement so that more accurate data can be collected moving forward.
We anticipate that the 2021 greenhouse gasses inventory will be completed this summer and that those findings will guide our efforts for emission reductions. We will also research ways of offsetting the 2021 emissions. Of course, we plan to do an inventory each year to measure our effectiveness.
This is only the beginning of our sustainability work. Future efforts may include publicizing our inventory externally, and engaging with customers to help them use JMP for their own sustainability efforts.
