Hello,
just to not lose track, here are the notes from Martin:
Hi all,
In our past meeting I had the task to find out what kind of additional topics (suggested by some JMP colleagues) would be seen as beneficial to be covered during the Scripters Club meetings. Here you go:
- Tips on how to generalise recorded workflows created by the workflow builder
- Show how to create add-ins and encourage uses to share their non-proprietary add-ins via JMP Market Place
My colleagues view (and mine :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:)
My colleagues opinion was that it would be good to keep it simple for new scripters and refer users with advanced questions to previously recorded sessions. Or consider alternative tracks – simple and advanced.
Personally I like to have a mix of simple/intermediate/advanced topics (not just starters) and always referring to recorded sessions from 2023 and 2024 during the session if appropriate for further learning or reference. Reasons:
- the real scripted applications (applied to many users) often needs special customization – this is sometimes not shown with just basics.
- It is inspiring to see what you could do you never have thought about or just dreamed of

To be complete: our brainstorming from the meeting
- Dedicated import options
- Color and symbols are important
- Tips and Tricks – dedicated to special topics/methods/structures/…
- Snippets for different levels (basic, intermediate, advanced)
- sharepoint integration/AWS
- How did you do that:
- from complex result drill down to smaller chunks
- use solved issues (e.g. from the community) and add training context or discussion on advantages of different strategies for solving that issue
- Should we be industry specific?
- Machine Learning/ Data Science/Simulations
- Application builder series
- fully stand-alone app
- mini yield management platform
- get data, data prep,
- Maybe for R+D: diference between JSL and other languages.
- Wish: get other people into the meeting (JMP, customers)
- JMP Education could be involved in some sessions.
- Wish 2: better description of the Videos and recordings.
Just throwing my random ideas to this post (I'll edit if more comes to my mind):
- Code roasting series (these will take a lot of effort to do, so we would have to somehow limit the script length)
- I could have one session about what I consider in add-in, how I build add-ins and how I manage them. All this might change when JMP19 comes out if there is a new add-in builder, so I'm not sure how useful this will be before that...
- I cannot share my "management script" but I can give idea about how I do it.
